Well at least we have a full set of blu-rays now.
Amusingly Amazon is selling the DVD boxes for more.
Pity Amazon didn't do collectors boxes for all 5 seasons - only S and Stars...:/
If you are talking about the Japanese Dvds being more expensive, keep in mind the quality is actually better on them compared to the upscale.

It would have been really cool if they had gotten Kazuko Tadano/Ikuko Itoh/Katsumi Tamegai to make new illustrations for the BD covers. That's what they did when the older Precure seasons finally got released in HD.
I wish Sailor Moon was not so popular that they know whatever crap they release/ re-release people will still buy it...

This would have been lovely. I feel like Kazuko Tadano or Hisashi Kagawa would've done new illustrations without much coercing. Not too sure about Itoh or Tamegai though.

I'm no Videophile but I do know that Viz is using the same masters as the Japanese releases so wouldn't expect their to be much if any difference? As others have commented the sets use a lot of recycled artwork so it's lacklustre effort...

This could be wrong but I think Viz may have the same ones for the movies, as well as SuperS and Stars, but they didn’t for the first few seasons. The ones I mentioned all look great and best quality I’ve ever seen ever, and have zero fuzziness and discoloration. Something is off about their video quality for Seasons 1-3. I know they are older seasons, but the video quality doesn’t look super great even on Bluray, unlike the others.

They totally screwed the first 3 seasons, using horrible post processing. I hope they will re-release them with the new masters they got from Toei for S and Stars. They are still not perfect, but way better than Viz. The best are still the ones used in Italy. Toei hd masters are still quite filtered upscales, sadly. Glad I got the Italian Dvds as I have a feeling Toei will try to make the rest of the world to release the upscale from now on.

They already did with Australia, that's why Madman's SuperS & Stars DVDs use those masters and not the Italian sources anymore. They also did with Mexico for that HD TV broadcast a few years back.

They almost did with Germany and Spain but well, we now know how that went....

The Madman SuperS master is the exact same as Viz’s and Toei’s Blu-Rays, right? Cuz I have seasons 1-3 from Madman on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and I was debating if I wanted to get season 4 on Blu-Ray or not, since while I noticed an improvement on Viz’s SuperS release, there were still some episodes that were vaguely smeary like Viz’s R release and I was wondering if Madman’s or Toei’s SuperS were any better.

There were people at the Blu-ray forums who said Madman's SuperS release look no different from what Viz put out.

The main things that has me convinced with the Viz sets is with the previews being put back before the opening, the fixed second opening, the restored second Stars eyecatch and the video not looking frozen during still shots like they did on Hulu and on S' discs. If anything, it makes me question what they were using before because the OP & eyecatch issues on Hulu make no sense to me as to how that happened.

As for Madman, maybe it is a good idea to pick that up since you asked there before for comparisons and didn't get any and I haven't seen any myself to confirm so it's hard to say if what they said is true or not.

The supers and stars blu rays are exactly the same, when it comes to visual quality. Sailor Moon blu ray upscale will never worth it, when it comes to video quality. While Toei HD version did some good by removibg some burned frames and dirt specks, which were on the dvd version, the filtering they used to remove film grain erased a lot of fine detail. The whole point of HD is more visible detail, so by upscaling and removing grain the result is the exactly opposite. And they didn't even done some color correction, which is what the show actualluy needed and is not that difficult to balance all these too greenish, bluish or red scenes and whole episodes.
