So I just recently finished watching Sailor Moon Eternal after I binge-watched the first 3 seasons of Crystal last year. I felt that the first part felt more like a long episode of Crystal rather than a movie, while the second part felt more like a movie. What I didn’t seem to understand was Nehelenia’s motivation for wanting to take over. I understand that Nehelenia’s motivation in SuperS was to stay young and beautiful forever. Can anyone clear up her motivation to me in Sailor Moon Eternal?

Also, after watching the trailer for Sailor Moon Cosmos, it made me think “Wow, it’s already over? I feel like she just became a sailor guardian.” Maybe if I watched the first 3 seasons when they were released, I might not feel that way, especially when they were released so slowly. I also think you wouldn’t feel this way with the original series’ 200 episodes, even if they were binge-watched.

She's evil. She's like Metalia, Pharaoh 90 and Wiseman, pure evil who wants the silver crystal and rule the galaxy.

I imagine Naoko tried to tell us that she is Queen Serenity's dark side who felt attracted to the light, but as always she didn't explore the character or the plot points around her.

The old anime messed her up too. Her chacterization was all over the place.

I think that's due to insanity and shifting memory. Nehellehenia was deeply affected by countless time in isolation and probably all those dream mirrors in her soul. As for going further over the edge, Galaxia's manipulation didn't help. Just some of my thoughts

Are you referring to her arc in Stars? I believe her backstory was changed to fix “problems” with SuperS.
This also is because Super S season did not incorporate the Outer Senshi, I think it is likely that the Stars arc inc. the Manga Stars arc, the Starlights arc of the anime and the Neherenia arc were created around the need for a season for the Outer Senshi to appear in the anime, although the anime and manga did not turn out the way they originally planned.

Really what do you mean ?
You have to read the artbooks, everything is said in them. What Naoko had planned for the anime and also for the manga but which was abandoned along the way. And then there were the internal problems.
I already said that before and I would not repeat it, Although I liked how the Neherenia arc turned out.

Nehellenia 90 is better than the manga version. The manga version, she has no story. She squats the Moon, finds herself trapped, and that's it. She comes out of the mirror, lets herself be killed, and that's it.
I think Super S and Neherenia Arc 121-172 are better than their manga equivalent but my only complaint would be that they did not introduce the originally planned Anime version of Eternal outfits of the other Senshi in 167-172(which ended up in Eternal), but since it was never used in the musicals so that is fine that it is not part of the 90s Stars anime.

I love her backstory in the 90's.

In Eternal/Manga/Sera Myu she was so wasted. Her nature was interesting but you had to fill in the gaps to end building her story. Queen Serenity could've been the real villain if Takeuchi had bothered to explore such story. Sometimes I believe so, like I do when I think about Neo Queen Serenity imposing her own Utopia.

Regarding NQS utopia, I would like to see a sequel with Chibiusa and Galaxia as the MC's and Cosmos as the Villain who wants to destroy the Cauldron.

For me, when I read the manga, I found that the Moon Kingdom was ruled by female dictators. Anything that doesn't fit their ideals is either killed, exiled, or purified. They leave no choice.
Finally, I pity the bad guys in the 90s anime and manga way more than I do the good guys.

It's silver crystal clear that Queen Serenity was the biggest b*tch in the whole galaxy and no wonder so many different alien organizations hated her enough to go after her reincarnated daughter centuries after.
That's why in PGSM, the Senshi girls have decided to let go of the past & live only for their present incarnations - Usagi has even persuaded PSM, the materialization of her past self, to let it go, so that the past will never be repeated & haunt the present again. It's a repeating theme throughout the episodes. :)
