La Soldier, La Moon... What does "La" mean?

I've always wondered. What does the "La" in these song titles translate as? Is it a word? Borrowed from another language? Are they singing about Los Angeles?

I'd say as well that it's probably from the French for "the" - although they didn't translate "moon" (proper: "la lune"). "Solder" is masculine, though, so that one's a translation error.

They already abuse English at will in the myu songs, I don't see why other languages shouldn't get the same treatment. (I assumed Spanish, myself, but that's probably because I don't speak French.)

Well, I've always assumed it was intentional - like "The She-soldier".

Just for comparison, according to WikiMoon there was something similar in the Spanish dub; the Senshi were consistently named "La Guerrero (Planet)", mixing the feminine "la" with the masculine word for warrior. (My Spanish is kindergarten level, but I guess a correct female form would be "guerrera".) Odd grammar - and sounds kind of butch for a Sailor Senshi - but at least it was obviously on purpose.

Yeah always just figured it was a French thing. Soldier isn't French though. That would be "La soldat" which as mentioned is not proper as it would be "Le soldat" but with all the bad translations in the history of Sailor Moon I don't think it's much of an issue.

Remember "Tuxedo la smoking bomber"? That doesn't really make any sense and "smoking" is masculine so it should be "le smoking".

Prolly just to give it a latino feel.

And not sure why, but being a French speaking person from birth, La Smoking Bombin makes total sense to me(doesn't sound wrong, sure it's a mix of language, but the "la" doesn't seam totally out of place).. (for this case, it's not the french "La" as in the designing a feminine word. but more a "voila" kind of thing... I can't explain it heh).

I could see arguing that "Mi Amor" has a latin vibe or that "Orleans no Sei Senshi" has a French thing going on, but calling "La Soldier" or "La Moon" decidedly latino/salsa/french just for having the word "la" in their titles maaaay be stretching it. I've been guilty of this myself, but Myu does seem to have more random French terms popping up in lyrics, though.

Myu in general can be very random in it's lyric and title choices, for example the "dammit!" in All of you shall die.

I guess they used the English word for soldier and added the Spanish la because they are female soldiers. la is also the female form in Spanish. And since when do the the Japanese take care of other languages?
