Hi,
A fellow Swedish fan mailed me about this (so it's NOT my own research - I don't think he's active in the fandom, though) which ought to interest some of you. He's into "production music", and has managed to identify two of the so-called library tracks from the 1st season BGM.
The first is the scene from ep. 46 when Luna and Artemis are talking on the roof of the Tsukino house while darkness descends -- see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAejCcmjdls (the music playing at 3:03-3:54).
The track in question is called 'Light is Knowledge', composed by Jan Pulsford. You can listen to it at http://www.unippm.se/#/browse/browsed-r ... ctedCDId=5 (click track #14; the music heard in the scene starts at about 1:00).
The second, the music heard briefly at the beginning of ep. 41 when Reika is studying fossils in Africa -- see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkNgm9Wd9Hc (1:57-2:16).
This track is 'Hill Station' by David Hentschel. See http://www.unippm.se/#/browse/browsed-r ... tedCDId=19 (click track #25).
I mailed Jan Pulsford and asked about it. UPPM, Universal Publishing Production Music, used to be BMG Music Publishing; according to her they've purchased and reissued a lot of music like this over the years for use in film/TV productions. It would seem to me it's a pretty safe bet that much - if not all - of the library music Toei used for Sailor Moon, originates from BMG/UPPM.
