Yeah, she drew and illustrated her characters wearing Chanel.

But one thing is being inspired by a brand’s aesthetic and another thing is actually partnering with the brand.

Like I said, Andy Warhol partnered with Chanel (probably indirectly) when he took photos of Chanel no. 5 bottles and turned them into serigraphs. To this day, Chanel promotes Warhol’s work.

Chanel is extremely picky and if they contacted Naoko Takeuchi and established an official partnership, well, that’s very, very special.

I don't care if it is a Chanel, Usagi's suit is horrible lol. Seriously though they are gorgeous

If this partnership is true…

Virginie Viard (Chanel’s head designer and “the right and left hand of Karl Lagerfeld) sent her sketches to Naoko Takeuchi and asked her to draw the characters wearing the clothes.

Naoko didn‘t draw the clothes, Virginie Viard did.

I like the art but the clothing is.. well Jupiter, Venus, Uranus and Neptune’s look OK. Also including their weapons kinda makes the composition a bit busy. What staff is that Usagi is holding tho? And Chibi Usa is holding the Moon Stick? Do I smell something new coming?

Anyway, there are so many iconic Chanel outfits. I think something like what Cher from Clueless wore in the 90’s would suit her style a lot better.

or something like this

Usagi's weapon seems to be a mix between the first manga brooch and the Moon Stick

I am kind of weirded out by Hotaru wearing a skirt on her trousers. Is that a thing again?! Why can't we just let that fashion trend die for good?

The way the girls look subtly older (probably because of the clothes, but Hotaru and Chibiusa definitely look 15-16) and Usagi is holding a completely different weapon is low key making me crave a sequel where the girls are living as adults, can’t transform, but have to fight against a new enemy.

I know it’ll never happen, but that’s just the first thought I had looking at this before realizing it was promo for Chanel.

I'm speechless...

Let's get serious.

I have a few questions: Have you noticed that Naoko Takeuchi's newest illustrations are getting worse? They're the ugliest illustrations since the one she made for the Olympics.
Are the illustrations she made in the 90s really made by her or by her assistants? I can't believe that such ugly, poorly composed and designed illustrations, badly drawn, with those ugly colours, were made by the same person who drew the old ones.

I don't know which one is worse, whether it's the Inners', the Outers', or the Chibi Usa & Hotaru's one. The illustration of the Inners collapses towards the centre, the one of the Outers falls apart just by looking at it due to the individual placement of the girls... there's no clear structure. It's horrible. Not to mention all of them have broken bodies. Usagi's illustration is a recycled version of the Kanzenban cover. I imagine that Naoko only draws the Moon Stick because if she drew the other wands, she would have to share profits with Toei/Bandai.

For those who find these pictures beautiful, do you know what composition in illustration means? There's no balance. The colours in Chibi Usa & Hotaru's artwork are extremely ugly, and Naoko only applies those Photoshop textures she used for the Kanzenban covers. How can she be so lazy as not to work on improving her drawing and art or her talent? Is this lady really an artist? No, she isn't because if she were she wouldn't put out there such terrible "pieces of art".
