EP 144-154
  • Fisheye sounds a lot better when she's talking in a more natural voice.
  • Vesu-Vesu, Cele-Cele, Para-Para & June-June - ok then
  • We finally get to meet the pumpkins the trio told us about. - they met?
  • I heard this episode's beginning was sped up because how much they had to cut.
  • I remember seeing some where a wiki saying the last time Yuichiro was mentioned was Rei saying he went on vacation. I looked through the episode in Japanese and I don't recall seeing any dialog saying that. I guess it came from here.
  • I wonder why the Mane Mane fight was cut so weirdly. They removed the clips of Mane changing her face into the characters and just shown the girls reacting to it. Also, Mane Mane sounds like Marge Simpson
  • I swear the dentists in this show are actually evil.
  • random fact: Susan Roman once dubbed a s*x scene for a girl she knew:mako:
  • Is anyone able to make out what Mina was singing :minako:
  • Kelly's voice is so .... young sounding.
  • June June kinda sounds like Buttercup from PPG.
  • Komoi: "You helped me again I'm so very grateful! - Wait he knows its them? ::eeklez:
  • Also forgot to point out there was this moment near the end of the fashion episode where Luna's mouth was speaking but no voice was dubbed in. :luna:

If you go to Internet Archive they should still have the S edited VHS dub up, I believe @YuYu Yuichiro linked to on this thread earlier.

ETA: They did. Check out the 2nd page on this thread.
Thank you, but I guess I should've specified the SuperS dub. It's incomplete on that Internet Archive link since they never finished released them on VHS and the Toonami recordings link have been removed.

I heard the first 65 episodes of the Mexican dub stuck pretty close to the Dic scripts and then started adapting the Japanese scripts more faithfully. Is that true or was that a load of bull and they always stuck close to the Japanese scripts? (Using DiC names like Serena and Darien aside)
Actually, until ep 65 they were using Toei's Engrish scripts with DiC names.
Beginning with 66, they hired a Japanese translator which used Japanese names for new characters, such as the Outers.

AFAIK Pioneer only released select episodes of the edited SuperS on VHS back in the day. All of the rest of them are from TV rips which seems to have disappeared off of the Internet Archive. If you don't mind downloading them I ripped some episodes back in the day that can be gotten off of ChibiBoi's site Sailor Moon – Senshi Fansubs (wordpress.com)

Thank you! I don't really rewatch the Cloverway dub much at all, but sometimes I like going back to certain episodes like the body swap episode from SuperS. I really enjoy listening to Stephanie Beard's adult voice for Rini and Mistress 9's iconic performance/laugh.

  • Helios constantly calling Rini his "little one" doesn't exactly help. He almost felt like a father figure with that voice.
  • I heard Stephenie Beard actually strained her voice trying to deepen it like that throughout the episode. :chibiusa:
  • This is the cleanest and fullest version of the original "Love is in my heart" song I could find.
  • ::tuxspeedmask:: [Dentist episode] Serena, you know you're the only meatball head for me! Trust me, I'm 100% yours for sure!..... Well ..... maybe 99%:creeper:
  • [Rhapsody] "Unless he's super tall for his age, I think he's too old for you."
  • :usagi:: Aw honey-bunchkins, you know very well age doesn't matter at all! :mischief:
  • ::tuxspeedmask:...... For us
  • They are a riot.
  • And the way Darien keeps saying he just want to talk to him
  • With how many times "Best Friend" implies romantic interest, that must be why having Amara and Michelle being "best friends" simply wouldn't be enough. Same for the fashion couple. They HAVE to be related to explain closeness. :haruka::mihiru:
  • I wonder why Ninako being so young was treated as a problem for the Dead Moon Circus when it never was before.
  • "Lets Fight"

Esther Thibault has a beautiful voice... but it's just so old and opera sounding. The DiC singers would've fit so much better, especially for "Love Is In My Heart". Shame we didn't get them back for whatever reason.

DiC had the insert songs composed and recorded locally in Los Angeles via The Music Kitchen. Since DiC was no longer involved in tne production and Cloverway was pretty hands off Optimum had to hire a local Toronto singer to do the "translated" songs.

I never understood the Esther hate. I thought her renditions of the insert songs were great. My issue with the S/SS dubbed songs were the lyrics were kinda cheesy. Aino Senshi was the worst offender.

They honestly probably should have left Ai No Senshi alone. DiC licensed the song for their Luna Rock CD so a lot of American Moonies would have been familiar with the song in its original Japanese anyways (plus Azusa Nigou was left alone and aired on Cartoon Network and everything) Actually, given that the Japanese song is on the uncut dub, I assume an English version was a last minute decision (did someone at Cartoon Network bitch about a song playing in Japanese?) after they already sent Pioneer the uncut masters. Maybe that's why the lyrics were so bad.

Cheesy as they were I quite liked Theme of the Sailor Team and Wanting To Be Us.

A critique does not equal hate.

I only dislike her voice in "Love Is In My Heart". That song is supposed to represent ChibiUsa and Pegasus' relationship. It's already weird (and inappropriate) for Pegasus to have an older voice, and now their song has an older sounding voice as well. Their connection is so full of innocence and youthfulness. It just doesn't fit.

I rather enjoy her voice in "Tear Our Hearts in Two" and "Let's Fight", though.

I'm assuming they were caught off guard with Azusa Nigou and went "oh crap, should we dub these insert songs??" LOL

It's worth mentioning they also left in the two insert songs in "Beach Blanket Bungle" but you can barely hear them.

EP 158-163
  • epilepsy warning, I guess.
  • There's a little bit of SuperS on this Toonami commercial and these two bumpers
  • I remember Rini mentioning something about how ever since Helios arrived [or the solar eclipse] she said it felt like they've been living in a dream ever since. She could mean that in a puppy love romantic way, but I feel like lines like that are behind the dream theory regarding SuperS. :chibiusa:
  • Nehelenia has the most dramatic over the top speech in this show. For this dub that's saying something.
  • So Nehelenia imprisoned Helios's body after the sacred flame thing. And she was imprisoned but I guess they just never found Helios's body [sounds kind of scary actually]. She's also doesn't seem to be attracted to Helios at all she just knows "he's the key to the crystals power and needs him for it to work." :twistedevil:
  • So, the Amazon Quartet knew about Nehelenia [Jun-Jun recognized her voice and Nehelenia said "how nice it is to see you all again"]
  • So much GIRL POWER in the third to last episode.
  • Apparently Nehelenia wasn't just known for her looks here. She's also apparently a good storyteller.
  • The servants happily give up their lives for Nehelenia. ::eeklez:
  • I wonder how male Zirconia works in this.
  • Here's the fan favorite line:
  • I still think Linda does a great job for the more serious scenes.

SuperS would have been in its second run around that time so I suppose it makes sense to feature it. Shame there was no SuperS specific promos.

. She could mean that in a puppy love romantic way, but I feel like lines like that are behind the dream theory regarding SuperS. :chibiusa:
Was that the theory about why the girls didn't move on to high school because of "time standing still" even though it was the same spring>summer>fall>winter progression we always see? Or a different theory?
  • So, the Amazon Quartet knew about Nehelenia [Jun-Jun recognized her voice and Nehelenia said "how nice it is to see you all again"]
Iirc wasnt that a dub error? It was supposed to be a flashback to meeting her for the first time and showed her manipulating the Quartet into working for her by promising them an eternal childhood? But the dub writer(s) screwed up and made it seem like a present day scene?

  • I wonder how male Zirconia works in this.
Foreshadowing of Nehelenia's eventual sex change (Optimum never dubbed Stars, Nehelenia getting gender confirmation surgery and changing his name to Zirconia is canon now)

  • I still think Linda does a great job for the more serious scenes.
She was a bit to deep sounding for a 9th grade girl (but honestly so was Terri...) but she did do a great job when she was allowed to drop the over the top goofy voice. Her begging Amara to forget about the pure crystal treasures, her desperately trying to transform into Super Sailor Moon in Darkness, My Old Friend and the iconic "I still pity you" and subsequent trying to wake Rini up scene were all great. Under better direction she could have made a fantastic, if miscast, Serena.

Yeah that's basically what I hear about it

Rini's line was "ever since that day I feel that time had stopped, and our friendship has existed forever. and that we've been living in a sort of dream."

Likely nothing too serious she says its "A dream I never want to wake up from" and Rini is shown going to school anyways.

Foreshadowing of Nehelenia's eventual sex change (Optimum never dubbed Stars, Nehelenia getting gender confirmation surgery and changing his name to Zirconia is canon now)
That's the only reasonable explanation.

Sailor Moon SuperS: Black Dream Hole
  • Why does this movie in particular have so many bumpers
  • They kept all instances of the 3 o'clock fairy song. as well as the music that plays during Amy's tidbit during the cookie session :cookie::cookie::cookie:
  • I miss Amy's old voice :ami:
  • But not Rini's :chibiusa:^_^'
  • Serena actually just called her daughter funny looking.
  • So here its the 3 o'clock Monday Fairy :mako:
  • Who voices Poupelin he sounds great.
  • Mercury gas? :ami: [instead of Shine aqua Illusion]
  • So instead of "Moon Cosmic Dream Action" its "Super Moon Crisis Power" :usagi::chibiusa:
  • Pluto's voice actually scared me the first time I heard it. I was not expecting that Pluto Deadly Scream! :setsuna:
  • They kept Uranus blushing wonder what's going on in her life :haruka:
  • The song that plays in Serena's dream is the same song that plays for the S movie's ending [and this movie as well]
  • Very interesting dub this is.

The dub for this episode was a m e s s. I don't know why they rewrote it as much as they did. But yeah, they make the flashbacks seem like they take place in the present. Total nonsense.

I still say the SuperS movie is one of the worst parts of the original dub. Stupid rewrites. Atrocious voice acting. It's terrible.
