One of the only things consistent about Crystal (now Eternal...) is that every new iteration has a brand new character designer. Frankly, I don't think the final arc will be any different unless these movies are a huge hit.

I only have one true preference that I feel would be firmly grounded in realism:

Hisashi Kagawa: Not only did was he responsible for the character designs and (some of the best) animation direction for the S and SuperS movies, he still works for Toei and has done design work for anime as recent as Tiger Mask W. And he's constantly drawing Sailor Moon unlike anyone who has worked with the franchise before. But if you thought that was a no-brainer just look at this doujinshi which he released recently:

Literally just take those designs and add all of Crystal's details (Usagi's sideburns, etc.) and you would have the best character designs the series would have seen in ages. Not only are his designs STILL dynamic and fresh, they have the right balance in terms of the age the senshi look, the right level of detail without looking too overly complicated for the other animators to copy.

i like Hisashi Kagawa character design for fresh precure, i think the eyes was similar to the Sailormoon manga ones. He's a good choice!!!
the girls he draws reflect the perfect age that you want to give to the Crystal characters

i think Yoshihiko Umakoshi also can do a good job! With Heartcatch precure he has shown he has an eye for animated fights and his style in the series I find it beautiful. (although it is a little "rough" and "angular" I liked it a lot and I find it suitable for the 5th arc of the manga in an animated version)

and finally Yukiko Nakatani with Go princess precure, She do an amazing job and her style is suitable for the stars arc
in the images the eyes are very detailed and the characters seem to be of the appropriate age from the way she draws them

she can do a great job on Mamoru too, look prince Kanata

these series of pretty cures are also exciting and well animated, a job with all the bows could come out!

I think Hisashi Kagawa could do very nice designs, but for me the most important thing is the animation director. They alter the design and sometimes the designs look different in comparison.

This looks super cute and amazing. This is how Sailor Moon should always be...if we can keep this same or very similar quality through animation it would be fantastic. Chibi-Usa looks so cute.

Firstly, I hope we don’t get a new character designer. Whether or not Eternal’s design is your favorite, we all have to admit that consistency is better.
Secondly, there’s a good chance the character designer won’t change. They’ve already landed a character designer from the 90s anime. There’s no need to go and search for someone else (unless the movies are a huge flop).
Thirdly, yes, if there has to be another character designer, Kagawa is likely the best choice.
Finally, let’s not hype up “new character designer” so much. I’m sure Toei does monitor fan reactions somewhat, so if the Anglophone fandom gets too excited for a new character designer, it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let’s ensure that we don’t turn this conversation up to 11 in order to maintain just a little bit consistency for Crystal.

Well as far as I can see it it turns out to be a tradition for Crystal changing style each season. If you look at it this way it would be really inconsistent not to for Stars.

I don't know their name, but whoever did the third season of Crystal. It was so gorgeous *_* Whenever it did a zoom in on one of their faces I was always in awe at how pretty they looked. I'm probably the minority though, I feel like most people didn't like the art in season 3 but I *loved* it. Makes the first two hard to watch in comparison for me truth be told xD

It was Akira Takahashi who designed characters of season III.
