I wonder if Keiko Iwata could design properly, or she will face the trouble like Sakou Yukie again. Because even in Act 21 and 25, her drawings are not perfect and need to fix a lot in the BD release.
Act 25: Showdown -DEATH PHANTOM- | Crystal Comparisons
Her drawings didn't really needed fixes. They enhanced some, but her work on this episode is as good as always. She did very few scenes. If the other animators mess up it would turn out bad though. This is why they decided to simplify stuff. Especially in season 1 Akiras work got redrawn a lot and constantly off model, but he still got the job tue do the simplicity.

I think Akira is a man full of pride. He never allowed anyone fix his drawings. In Act 10 and 14, there were 5 people in the staff. And the characters are almost on model, and the head shape is mostly round. And then he got rid of that person, and episode 18, 22 and 26 got worse. It looks to me that he wanted to opposed to Sakou Yukie till the last moment, and nobody could do anything about him.

I actually am not sure if Keiko Iwata's designs would have the same issues as Sako. She is definitely superior in understanding proportion (look at how balanced Princess Serenity's headshape is!) and anatomy (and her eyes are super expressive). She's also pretty flexible as an artist and I think she'd approach the designs knowing that not everyone will be able to imitate her level of detail. Animation direction and character designs are very separate jobs and the character designer's job is to make sure the designs can be ANIMATED first and not just imitate the manga's style.

Like even her PIXIV art on the first page is actually simpler than S1's designs (aside from the details in the hair and clothing). Like the eye shape is actually somewhat reminiscent of Precure, but like Naoko-ified.

Or, you know, he just drew close enough to being on-model that nobody bothered to correct his stuff that much. I'm pretty sure animators don't get much of a say in these things.

God, I hate this fandom's irresponsible rumor-mongering.
A few weeks ago there was an art collector on ANN saying Ikuko Itoh hated Sailor Moon because she didn't seem to want to talk about it or seemed interested in her work on it when autographing her art from it (when they were at a panel dedicated to Princess Tutu.)
What's sad is that there's slightly more ground to that speculation than this because someone actually visited her at a con.

It's fine if you don't like season 3's art. It's not fine to start dragging a real life person's name through the mud because of it.

I doubt he opposed. He has a signature style and is not versatile. The same Ikuko Itou is very good designer and animator, but cannot escape her style once she developped it. And his episoded while simpler in style had a lot less issues and most likely were faster and smoother to produce. I am ok with Tadano so far, and if they keep her for Stars I doubt I will have any problem with her. She do round and simple enough, but still quite pretty.

Those shots with Usagi and Pluto were some of the best shots in Crystal, yes (though I didn't care for the choice in colors for the background, I mean, a puke green sky and feces brown ground? Then again, Toei had puke green for skies sometimes in both Precure and Dragon Ball Super).

Okay. I'll take my words back.

Ah Cutiebunny.....so it WAS centered around Tutu? She didn't mention that in her reply to me but I had a feeling it was something like that since the same used to happen for Ikuhara events like the Q&A Right Stuf did 9 years ago where all questions asked had to be Utena-related since they just license-rescued the series at the time.

I've heard of Cutie (good personality person though I can't believe they actually donated to the terrible Kodomo no Jikan Kickstarter ), but what's this, Ikuko actually didn't seem interested in or hated Sailor Moon? That's quite sad for me to hear as she was one of the best artists and I loved her style along with Kazuko's best. :blue:

Anyone got a link?

I doubt she hates it, but Princess Tutu was her work and it is so good and deep. It never got what it deserves so I understan her irritation.

It would be ironic if Ikuko Itoh ends up doing the designs for the inevitable Stars films, since she never designed the characters for Sailor Stars...The same way Kazuko Tadano didn't design SuperS' characters and is now working on Eternal. It almost makes too much sense.

Well, since she seems to be one of the fan favourites...I would like to see her take on Sailor Moon if based on Naokos art for the Stars arc, which means, more mature looking senshi.

Agreed, Princess Tutu is incredible ♡_♡ It's too bad a lot of people are put off by the title (admittedly I was initially too).

I've watched it more times than Sailor Moon actually haha.
