The difference is we want it changed for the sake of translation and Nangbaby wants it changed for the sake of censorship. We want all the sound effects to be properly translated and presented in the same manner the Japanese sound effects are. Nangbaby has expressed many times she wants all instances of Japanese removed and localized to an American Location. We don't want to alter the story or the characters by changing their setting and censoring their cultural history. We just want to be able to read crucial things and have them look pretty. ^^;
And all of these changes you're referring to her having mentioned have been in regards to the anime ONLY, not the manga. Her opinions about the manga differ from those of the anime. And all of her suggestions here have been spoken in a hypothetical manner and do NOT reflect how she would genuinely want the manga to be handled. Stop ganging up on her.
I'm not ganging up on her. I'm just answering her question o.o;

Not sure if you're including me with 'ganging up on her' but all I did was agree that flipping panels causes issues.

Personally I don't mind the sound effects being in Japanese with English subs. Its feels more authentic to me.

The "bump-head" translations through me off at first because I'm familiar with the "dumpling head." version.

I personally could do a better job at the graphical editing, they could have tried to make it prettier.
Its hard for me to believe that this is the actual quality as the cover seems to be so well done.

Is there any proof that this is an official picture?

Well, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions based on a few pages. From the looks of it, it's going to be a nice release! I'm so exited to get my copy. The Japanese suffixes don't bother me, as long as they're used in moderation. I get the impression that they're only used in a few instances. Yeah, I'd rather them be totally gone, but I have no problem with the manga being a little extra Japanese, since SM IS a Japanese series after all! I would've preferred the sound effects be edited, but I wasn't expecting them to. YenPress NEVER edits sound effects, and I think they handle them more poorly since they place the English translation in ( )! My only problem is with that building. But honestly, I wouldn't have noticed it if no one had mentioned it! Overall, I'm very pleased with what I see! I'm very exited about this!
I second this, I am excited aswell. Nothing can really ruin my excitement.

I think everyone in this thread needs to take a breather. No one is trying to gang up on anybody, but I do think that the language is getting inflammatory even when its not intended. I'd hope that we can at least all be civil with each other, even when we disagree. =\

So let's suppose there was a translation where there was no Japanese used and every piece of writing was replaced with proper English analogues. The translation sounded both natural but very accurate in spirit (instead of to-the-letter) and even the names remained the same...but the panels themselves were reversed. Would you accept that as a happy middle ground.
My area of expertise is not graphical design, but after actually working with a number of graphical designers (many of whom had professional certifications) through MD's manga project, my opinion echoes the sentiments of Yen-sama: if you flip the pages, the artwork becomes somewhat distorted. Personally, I would rather see the graphics become slightly altered to include English-language sound effects if it meant having a faithful translation. I care more about the story-telling being right than about having every single pixel in place for background panels. So far we've had Tokyopop butcher BOTH the images and the translation, and Kodansha just leave the Japanese sound effects in and do an overall lazy job graphically. Since I haven't read their translation in full I can't comment on it yet, but I've made my distaste for the inclusion of suffixes clear already.

I can't understand why you want the kana to stay in the anime, but you want the writing translated (requiring editing the images) in the manga. Both changes would be editing. It's "censorship" in the anime, which at least has the benefit of an audio track to provide context, but replacing kana sound effects to English ones is something you'd want them to do. I would think it would be "worse" to do that in print because that's the author's very work right there. If you acknowledge that the sound effects are not universal and merely foreign symbols that should be replaced with an English equivalent, why is it that when I say the equivalent for the anime, my attitude is considered insensitive.
Not sure what you're talking about here, I haven't brought up the translations for the anime at all in this thread. Perhaps you have me confused for someone else.

At least from these scans they didn't water it down. They provided it raw.
I would argue that the American releases of the Japanese re-prints is watered down. We aren't going to get dust jackets, or stickers like the first prints in Japan had -- despite the fact that we'll be paying double the price (hasn't anyone else noticed that?). The translation quality is questionable at this stage. The graphical design work is also arguably shoddy work.

Here's my problem. If you want me to pay double the price for the same damned thing as I can order online, then it should include extras -- not be missing material like dust jackets or stickers or whatever. I'm paying double the price for the sake of having a translation. I don't see the point of paying for a shoddy work, with typos and graphical design mistakes throughout the first volume.

Let me make it clear that despite my concerns I will still be purchasing the Kodansha volumes SIMPLY to support the franchise. It's not because I think that Kodansha Comics USA did a bang up job or that I want to see the American manga industry flourish. It's just my hobby to collect Sailor Moon books at this point, and since this is an official release I'll be buying. As a consumer, I think I'm well within my rights to be able to voice my criticisms and concerns with the product I'm paying for.

Well to be fair, English manga releases rarely, if ever, have dust jackets (the only one I've seen with them is actually an American manga called Vermonia), however, IIRC, Japanese releases almost always have them. That's a very standard difference between Japanese and American manga release. Plus, I've never seen any manga in the US come with extras like stickers. The closest thing I've seen is the Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie ani-manga coming with trading cards (again, an American-exclusive release). I wasn't expecting Random House and Kodansha to reproduce either.

Honestly, I find dust jackets to be a bit of a hassle. I read my manga a lot, and I don't like having to deal with annoying dust jackets getting torn, bent, sliding up and down the book, it's hard to flip through the pages, and you have to remove them every time you read, etc. I really just like the normal paperbacks.

 I swear some of you just blow my mind and piss me off , and I'm new!
Why in Usagis's name are you all complaining?!?!?! WE ARE GETTING THE MANGA RE RELEASE!!!! Isn't that enough?!?! I'm just happy and stoked the Manga is even seeing the USA again!!!! Some Sailor Moon fans are so jaded and ungrateful.

CHECK THE MAP
I'm excited as hell, to be honest. I can't wait to see all of it.

Also, he'll probably call her "Bun head" in every line after that one. It's like that in the original too, as many others in this thread have pointed out.

Here's my two cents.

After reading the terrible Tokyopop/Mixx versions I'm just happy we're getting an unflipped, uncensored version of the manga. Just because they've put "Chan" and "Sama" into a few sentences and the translating the shopping district sign doesn't really matter to me. Just because Mamoru calls Usagi "Bump Head" isn't going to make me cancel the preorder I've had since May. Everything else is just nitpicking. I'm a friggen 30 year old man now. I've got two Sailor Moon shirts that are older then most people that are current fans of the show. I've waited since I was 14 to get a good, official translation of the comic I can hold in my hands and read. I'll take a couple of mistranslated lines of dialog and them putting subtitles under the sound effects.

We've been getting [BLEEP] on for years as fans of this series. The Mixx/Tokyopop versions of the comic were so bad I stopped after buying two volumes of it. Plus we never got Codename: Sailor V and the short stories. The dubs of the anime were horribly edited and the voices sucked. I didn't even watch all of S till I got it on DVD because I couldn't take the new crop of [BLEEP] voice actors they got. When we finally got the show on DVD we still missed episodes and we may still never get an official release of Sailor Stars.

All of this is just nitpicking, if there's a better fan translation, then go ahead and keep reading this. I've waited a long time for something good from this series. I hope this does well so they won't stop halfway through and hopefully a good dubbing company can get a hold of the rights to the anime so I can finally have an official box set of Sailor Stars.

Agreed, they're complaining because they strive for perfection
So I'm going to say this once again

If you don't like them using honorifics and you're not satisfied with the Kodansha re-release, fine, go ahead and download Miss Dream's translations, where there's no honorifics. :|
I'm addressing this to every single one of you who is not highly satisfied with Kodansha's Sailor Moon Manga
Just be grateful we are getting the manga the right way.

I'm pretty excited for this. Are they released now? I could not find a specific date for their release except September...just September

According to Amazon.com the release is Tuesday the 13th. I just hope they'll ship me both Sailor V and Sailor Moon 1 at the same time. When they first had them up on Amazon to preorder I just shoved them all in my cart and hit the buy now button.
Only 2 days left, thanks - then I won't have to check the anime store in Perth today to see if they have it XD

  Thank you for Agreeing . I am just happy as hell that Sailor Moon is even coming back , in ANY SHAPE OR FORM! I mean who would have thought they would have revived it for us?? I sure did not expect this at all!~
They did not have to give Sailor Moon back to us ...they are doing this for the fans! I will not dare be ungrateful to them . And I will take the bump head or etc. I am just happy that Usagi is Usagi etc etc. Not to mention excited that I myself have a change to own the Manga version of my favorite story .

Complaining just does not feel right because this is all still like a dream to me that on Tuesday I will be holding the Sailor Moon Manga. I am happy and I am not going to bash the company who decided to give me ANOTHER chance to own this amazing story in my hands again~
