Princess Kakyuu could have been handled better in both manga and anime

In the anime, she was killed very soon after making appearance. I don't even think her character is needed.

In the manga it was better handled, we saw more characterization in her, but still not enough for a new character. And she got stabbed 3-4 pages after transformation, that was a bit rushed.

How would you have handled the character?

In the anime I think she just talked about the Sailor wars. Helpful information but still felt really anti climatic that she died so soon after building expectation for her for so long.

I think it would've felt more fulfilling if she at least gave them a power up or something.

But even then I think her death would've felt super sudden.

Maybe if she just appeared much earlier and participated more in some fashion, or restored her and Star Light's world or something.

Definitely a conversation between her and purified Galaxia would've been good for sure.

I'm a bad fan who hasn't read the Stars manga yet lol; I kept being too fussy over the translation I read. I decided the Eternal Editions are probably the best I'm gonna get, so I'm waiting for the two volumes to finally read it XD; So I can't talk about her manga self just yet.

Stars manga has a great ending, the previous plot was ok.

Yeah I've heard that the Stars arc in the manga is way way better. (Though I did enjoy the anime one too, despite its flaws) from what I've heard it's basically a different story altogether which I can believe because holy smokes Dream and SuperS differences haha.

And it'll feel good to finally read the last arc lol.

But I still think it's too much focused on Usagi.

They should have done a much better job adapting the Dream arc into SuperS. Then they wouldn't have needed to waste the first 6 episodes of Sailor Stars doing what they should have already done. Those six episodes could have gone to a Heavy Metal Papillon arc where Kakyuu could have gotten more screentime and character development.

People who grew up with the 90s and picked up the manga much later find it hard to accept it is all about Sailor Moon. But it is called Sailor Moon after all. It is not like the Stars season develops anyone after the first 6 episodes. I prefer the manga over anything, but the Stars arc was really rushed and it introduces a lot of characters that last few pages. Kakyuu was one of this easily disposable characters. At least the manga arc ends with a bang. The Stars season was below average the whole time and totally missed the mark on the ending.

True, both arc has past their prime, most of the Stars epsiodes were meh. Siren&Crow was the only good part to me.

I think Naoko didn't have the concept of Chaos and ChibiChibi being Sailor Cosmos until very late, you can see unlike other big bad, Chaos was introduced very late.

I disagree; theres foreshadowing with Nehellenia and Queen Serenity towards the end of the Dream arc about light and darkness coexisting -and the same scene is used in a flashback towards the end of Stars at the Galaxy Cauldron.

Dream arc is still about light vanquish darkness. Queen Serenity disagreed with Nehellenia and sealed her away in the beginning.

Sure she probably got some light-darkness conept, but the actual story wasn't setup till the end. From her concept, it looks like Galaxia originally was going to be Sailor Chaos as well. But the character was split into two.

I don't agree, and don't see it. What makes you say that?

They coexist to oppose each other. Darkness and light both need to exist in order for there to be balance in the universe. Chaos explains this in Stars. If that's your point then cool, but it seems to me that you're implying that both can exist peacefully and that's not the case.

I don’t know about Chaos being developed late, but in the Materials Collection, Naoko does say that when Sailor Galaxia’s bracelets are off, she becomes Sailor Chaos. Now that obviously doesn’t happen in the manga, but either it was Naoko’s initial idea or a plot line she pitched to the original anime’s team (which later got adapted as Chaos Galaxia).

I’m pretty sure Sailor Cosmos was always going to be a thing though.

Alright, then what's your point? The relationship between Nehelenia and Serenity isn't sound foreshadowing of Chaos' existence. Pharaoh 90 is a better example.

On topic, I think the character of Kakyuu was handled just fine in the manga. She was introduced with a distinct personality, a clear goal she wanted to accomplish, and a role in the story. The blemish is that we don't see either her or the Starlights in the epilogue to see that goal fulfilled. In the anime, the lack of a coherent story kills whatever defined role in the story she played because TOEI did nothing with the Light of Hope. Her characterization and personality were fine.
