Hey everyone, first time viewer here!

Just finished Crystal and starting the 90s show and my question are regarding the movies:
Are they important to see? I’ve heard some people say they’re not canon, and if they’re not, are they still good enough that they’re worth seeing and tracking down?

Thanks in advance :)

The movies are great. They worth watching and they are the only SM 90s true HD material. They are not canonical to the respective seasons and it is hard to place them on the time line, but still great watch. Especially R and S.

Cool, I guess I'll give them a watch after I'm done with the 90s show :) And also, what are your thoughts on the manga? Is it alot like Crystal?

Crystal is basically meant to be the faithful adaptation of the manga though the first two arcs still change things including leaving a lot of the humor on the cutting room floor. The past relationships between the generals and guardians were not a thing in the manga.

Good luck with the 90s series. I think you'll be struck by how different Rei is.

The manga is better than Crystal. Like said they cut a lot of the humor and personality in the first two arcs and changed stuff around. Some changes in the first arc were actually significant and not in Crystal favor.

If you like Crystal the manga is even better.

The 90s cartoon is a different animal it mostly resembles the manga with filler to a point but by the time Jupiter shows up it pretty much does its own thing.

As far as the movies go they’re independent from their respective seasons main storyline but they’re all decent

There are also some special episodes that go with the 90s anime too.
The R movie has the Makeup Sailor Senshi short.
There is the SuperS special that takes place after episode 131.
And the SuperS movie has Ami's First love as a short.

The Manga is worth the read especially if you already like Crystal

the movies may not be canon and have a tough time fitting in the timeline [though fans have tried] but they are good on their own
think of them as an extra sailor moon treat

90s anime has a lot of filler [this is due to needing to fill in while the manga was being made at the same time] but most of the fillers are good for
character development and such so it's not like not worth the time while some fillers can be well obvious fillerish but what anime in the 90s didn't have fillers like that from time to time, 90s anime is more light hearted than the other counterparts but has it's own dark moments

The filler I noticed right away haha

Too much is never good, it feels like you're just treading water :P But I agree that it adds to the character stuff and that is something that Crystal lacked

Just something as simple as them sitting around a table doing homework or whatever and just talking can add alot...and yes, the humor is noticable right away as well, and a welcomed change IMO! I loved Crystal and I'm loving the 90s show too so far but in different ways...It's interesting:)

And thanks for the replies everyone else, appriciated^^

The filler for at least the first two seasons aint that bad honestly. The worst of it is the long gap between Mars joining the team and Jupiter joining the team (15 episodes!) but its nothing like your average tv anime aimed at young boys. There is a 13 episode story arc exclusive to the anime to start the second series to allow the manga to get further ahead. It’s mostly optional (though it fills in some gaps) but its solid enough.

@Mantwig Well, as Rose and others have already said, basically every version has both its Merits/Up- and Downsides, so my suggestion would be to just try them all out (where available) and form an opinion of your own. :ami:

Yeah, just do it all. I think you should read the manga, unless you want to be unspoiled on Crystal. Also try the live action. It might look goofy and dated, but the characters are very developed in it, so it worths the time.
