Also to add I loved the background music during episodes feels so calming to listen to, Transformations hands-down, as well as hilarious comedic scenes (Something I adore seeing, like Usagi & Rei fighting).

I like the 90s anime because we got to know everyone for the most part. Sure it was long as hell and could be cut down a lot but when we got focus on each character, it was great to watch.

I like seeing Serena being on her own for awhile before everyone else came in, it felt very natural when you know not to anticipate it.

The villains got to be fleshed out which was great. You got a wide range of why they were villains, some were just plain evil while others just went down the wrong road.

Day of Destiny was the best episode of the series and those last 2-3 episodes were everything. Sheer perfection.

Re: Reasons why you feel the 90s anime is so much better

....Threads like this are seriously making me start to hate the 90's series as much as I love it.

Any chance of editing the title of the thread so it doesn't sound like a thinly veiled, snarky effort at bashing Crystal?

Crystal is fantastic. The old anime was fantastic. Anything Sailor Moon is fantastic. (Except the DiC dub.)

I'm more then half tempted to make a thread titled "Ten reasons why I think Crystal is so much better."

Can we just stop? We get it. The 90's anime is like the Holy Grail to you. Geez. Let it go.
i don't understand why there is always an influx of some sort of opposition as if the first anime is going to be written out of history or something. people get way to extreme and bitter over very simplistic things. every discussion about sailor moon has nearly been the 90's anime. of course people are going to get very excited and post what they find appealing in crystal. it's brand new! i wouldn't expect anyone not to either way. however, simply creating a thread to just huff and puff in a corner of people liking something that just doesn't appeal to you seems passive aggressive and asking for some sort of conflict.

anyways,

i really like how the villains get a bit more showtime/character development. that being said, they could have made it much better and relevant but to see that some villains get to actually make an appearance in the show rather than being killed fairly quickly was nice.

Basically:

-it was my gateway anime, without it I most likely wouldn't have got into anime

-Usagi's portrayal and the rest of the characters (except chiba, I don't mind Minako being an usagi clone but I prefer her portrayal in the manga/crystal/pgsm )

-Villains usually lasted longer (and some were turn good, it's a shame they were forgotten a season later, I would have liked to see the healed spectre sisters hang out at Rei's temple during S for example)

-transformations were fun to watch

-Naru x Nephrite

-Kunzite x Zoisite

-Moon/Mercury/Mars trio in classic

-Fillers (some were good and funny)

-Animation in SuperS

-Music and BGM were the perfect

-2 of the 3 movies :P

-Rei/Usagi arguments were amusing but Chibiusa/Usagi ones annoyed me

-The friendship and closeness of Rei and Usagi

-Hotaru and Chibiusa's friendship

-DD Girls

-The ending in classic, it was very emotional and perfect in my opinion

-the Ali-en arc

I could go on

I love the 90s anime very much

1. Rei's fights with Usagi/Serena :D
2. Usagi/Serena and Mamoru/Darien revealing their secret identities
3. Character growth/development for the main and supporting characters (Ex: Naru/Molly, Umino/Melvin, and Ryo/Greg.) The villains/antagonists received character growth/development as well.
4. The filler episodes, they helped establish a bond between the girls as well develop their personalities and friendship. Plus, they were humorous.

Agreed, it made us sort of feel more involved in serena/Usagi and the other girls lives, not to mention it made the series feel... well a lot more full of life and gave azabu juban a lot more character, anyways another reason why I like the 90s anime more is that it's pacing is better, the 90s version keeps things ticking over nicely unlike crystal where everything just seems to happen waaay too quickly.

I also forgot to mention I loved Drunk Usagi in the episode where they went to a rich British Mans house for a party and Usagi got so nervous she grabbed a glass of wine by mistake and ended up extremely drunk and making a funny scene XD

Moments like Artemis pranking Luna for weeks pretending to be "the Central Control", going as far as making her remember an absurd password and using voice changing equipment.
Or Naru zipping up Umino's sleeping bag as a gesture of gratitude.
Or scenes like these:

They really built upon the manga character templates, to the point where it would be entertaining to watch just a slice of life comedy with them.

Ooo.
1. I must admit I have a soft spot for the DiC dub, it was my childhood which leads into point two
2. Nostalgia. It was a thing for me and my sister to watch this show so it brings back a heap of memories
3. I love the way the characters are drawn. To me they feel softer. I don't really know how to explain why I think that but yeah P-:
4. I love the villains. Always had an epic crush on Prince Diamond (sorry if people get annoyed when I refer to the characters as the DiC dub names... It's just how I remember them more easily.. LOL)
5. The transformation sequences to me where a lot cooler! I really felt like it showed the characters off a whole heap more!
6... Again sorry for those DiC dislikers. BUT I LOVED THE MUSIC! I AM SO SORRY BUT IT MAKES ME EMOTIONAL! And I am currently listening to some of the music and getting hardcore tears.. LOL.
7. Just the amount of emotions in the show. From the comedy aspect to the seriousness of it all. The friendships, the fighting, the conquering it all. Love love LOVE!
8. And last nut not least, the filler episodes and the character development we got to see in those episodes :)

Ps. I love all the dubs... Okay I say all minus S and SS English dub.. But I love the DiC dub in season 1 and 2 and the Japanese version and even the new dubs and I am so excited to see how they handle the rest of the season!

@SailorColy, I can't blame you
I like the dic dub too (including the bgm and songs) despite the Japanese version of the 90s being my all time favorite
For me the old dub is nostalgia and was my official introduction to anime, even without the
Nostalgia factor I still like it, it's corny and funny.
I'm also including the Cloverway dub.

I do acknowledge it's faults because they are galore but it's also part of its charm, kinda how
usagi has her faults (lazy clumsy crybaby etc) but is still loved and part of her charm
For the most part I also like the voice cast
Even Linda grew on me, she did well by the last ep of SuperS

Honestly I don't know why everything has to be "perfect" to be good

Anyway my point is I agree and in addition to the original version I like the dub
for these and other reasons

@Chibi Chibi Rose
Haha the BGM was killer, the transformation music was my favourite. It seriously brought me to tears so many times!!
But yeah don't get me wrong, I appreciate Sailor Moon in it's original form. The voice acting is pure emotion. Especially in Stars, my fav scene is
Spoiler: show
when the scouts die and Usagi is screaming "No".
Like even that to me was just.. Ugh shivers down my spine. But I agree, the original English dub had its flaws no doubt about it. But I just love it. The comedy aspect that they brought to it will be something i never forget. My favourite scene in the original is when
Spoiler: show
Tuxedo Mask transforms in front of Usagi and she's like oh my god it's really him, I can't believe it.
(Sorry I just don't want to give things away in case people haven't seen it still.. Hahaha) It was my childhood, and it was my first ever anime. It's a part of who I am so yeah, I do love it. Haha. P-:

Ahh you never know, people could be getting into it for the first time with the new dub. I prefer to not spoil it just in case. You really never know. :)
