And it's kinda unsettling when you realize he left due to accusations of his orientation, as he said in the interview.
Was there ever any doubt? Even when I was a kid I thought he was an uke...ok, granted, didn't know that word then, but...yeah...I thought he was overly passive.

Not that I think that should matter when it comes to acting, though. But then again, there was a lot of homophobia in the 1990s.
I couldn't tell, but I think he was cute...

Linkara mentioned Billy was the one seen with the most girls on the show... I hope that wasn't the writer's way of harassing him.

(Homophobia in the 90's doesn't surprise me... But on the campiest spandex show ever? Come on!)

For me, I took it as the old "the nerd is the chick-magnet" trope seen in some places like with Urkel and such.

Yeah, sort of an obvious choice of subversion... I wouldn't have thought twice about it if I didn't hear about the unfortunate parts... (Billy and Jason would be cute together though...)

@ Fokkusu: She's beautiful! If it translates her thoughts into words, that would be like a "hip" take on her infirmed "Messiah of Silence" persona, huh? I like it!

A red and blue ranger yaoi doujinshi?! Sign me up please!

Yeah, I remember when they tried to hook him up with the yellow ranger, and I kept thinking that that relationship wasn't going to last.

They never did that. What they did was try to make Trini simply be the translator to his technobabble, but once they finally toned that down, she just felt more like an extra. They did, however, try to pair her up with Richie in season 2, but aside from some glances and flirting, their relationship went nowhere since Richie kinda faded out of the series once Tommy came back as the White Ranger.

Richie served only two purposes:
* Fanservice, despite even Billy having a body build most jocks would be jealous of,
* And to be a red-herring for the White Ranger, even though his one fight against the Putties had him (and Curtis) scared and uncertain of how to fight them, despite him having performed martial arts on screen before, leaving it to Zack to fend off the Putties from Richie and Curtis by himself.

Yeah, you can tell I was watching the DVD set not too long ago. ^_^'

Refresh my gray cells - Who's Richie? Are we talking about the Black (Baka) Ranger, Zack? Yeah, he was Token before Token existed.

Because apparently, in 1990s America, that's what Asians did... :p

He was a character introduced in the first half of season 2 as an employee working for Ernie at the juice bar, who also practiced martial arts. He disappeared from the show once the White Ranger was revealed to be Tommy and not him (or Curtis, Zack's cousin who was another red-herring also introduced in season 2).

That's so obscure I couldn't even find it on Wikipedia. I insist that you update Wikipedia NOW with said information. The world must know. Nay, the world needs to know.

I lost my [BLEEP] when Tommy was revealed as the White Ranger!
Really?! Didn't see that one coming? The fact that Tommy was still getting far too much air time despite no longer being a BakaRanger told me otherwise.

I blame Animaniacs for my cynicism. It's the cursed Wheel of Morality.

Just use the PR Wiki. It's not that he's obscure since he was in practically the whole first half of season 2. It's just there's so little info about him because of how pointless a character he was. Like I said, he was fanservice and a red-herring. He showed up just to make appearances, rather than actually do anything.

I think when he showed up wearing white I figured it out, but wasn't sure until it happened.
Well, he didn't start wearing white until after got the white powers. After he lost his green powers, he left town for a while to go visit his uncle at a lake cabin. He came back full time in his debut as the White Ranger. Until, then, however, Richie and Curtis served as possible candidates for the audience to guess as the White Ranger.

I would have loved it if he started wearing pink instead. Other than fanservice, what the hell did Kimberly actually do?
Be "the chick"? And a major plot device for season 3? Sure, she was made second-in-command when Tommy became the leader as the White Ranger, but she didn't act any different than she had before getting that title.

Besides, I always found Trini and Kat (the latter especially) to be much more attractive. :P

And Jen was, hands down, the best Pink Ranger of all.

When did this become a Power Rangers discussion?
Someone compared Toon Makers Mercury to Billy during Zeo and things kinda slipped from there. :P

Quick! Someone find another new cel on eBay so we can talk about it! ;)

I don't think I can really get into such a jumbly show... But I am thinking I at least want to finish Zyuranger, having watched about 18 eps of it.

"Do-dora-dooora! Do-do-dora-dora! Do-do-ra-ra-do-do-ra-ra Bandora!"
May I recommend "Tentai Senshi Sunred" to you? The villain, General Vamp, is a total good guy who calls ahead to plan a battle with the hero, and Sunred is a total jerk.

Well, E-bay is featuring a fixed listing for free promo on their site for the next few days. Let's hope we get some more jainky images of Darian!

And as for the topic derailment, look...I've posted on this topic several times. When does a topic where I've made several posts in not get derailed?
