See, that's what bugs me about the "wheelchair" concept. What disabled kid would really feel empowered by the knowledge that even superpowers would never let them escape their disability? Admittedly, had the show had good writing, they could have found a way around it, but the show is so clearly obsessed with "tokens" that I doubt it would have understood how to write that type of character respectfully. They just probably figured "girl in wheelchair" was all they needed.
This is a slippery slope because I have heard many disabled people complain when fictional characters get a magical cure for their disability, because they feel it implies that there's something wrong with them that needs to be fixed. I think general consensus is that it's better for them NOT to get a magical cure, at least from what I've encountered on the internet and IRL.
But I mean, like you said, this show was clearly obsessed with "tokens" (I'm still on Team Sailor-Mars-Was-Blind for the tokenness of it
) so I'm sure there would have been something else obnoxiously offensive about how they handled Mercury.

If the pilot tape would ever been auctioned, I wonder what its bidding price would be. lol
I wouldn't pay 2 pennies for that.
Nobody on this board has any commitment to the lulz! Sigh. I would pay one million dollars for that tape.
But since I'm not a millionaire, it would have to be in Monopoly money.

I am just waiting for the Saban Moon skits and cosplay to start up now that we have images of how everyone looked
I know there are Moonie's out there who can take all this and make something great out of it, be it really good or really hilarious
This is a thing that needs to happen.
