Forgot to mention: I contacted the seller of the cels with backgrounds, and they said they'll be posting new ones every week!

I've got bids in on two of the cels but they're not too high. Curious to see who comes in to bid at the last minute...

Just be aware that if they're stuck on the cel, they could have some spots of paint missing when you try to remove them. If the cel is stuck on really good, I wouldn't even try to separate them.

I also have some cels that were stapled to the background. If that's the case with these cels, do not ever try to separate the layers. The staples could shred the cel.

You may use some fine tools to remove the staples, tho (not an ordinary staple remover, of course lol ), but you still have to do it very carefully & slowly.

Actually, you really need to separate the layers. The staples can and do rust, and that can damage your cel.

I use my fingernails to unhinge the staple, and then slowly separate the staple from the layers. It takes a while though.

On another note, I would not suggest separating the acetate layers if the paint has stuck together, though. If you really need to do so, like in cases where there is moisture inbetween the layers, take it to S/R Labs instead. It takes them a while and the process isn't cheap, but if it's something special to you that you want to preserve, they're the best option around.

In case you don't have long-enough fingernails or don't wanna damage your nails, you may use a tiny slotted screwdriver to do that.

I have a great set of Robot Carnival cels with a bunch of layers like that. The staples are a bit rusted but I didn't touch them. I just stored it with the staples intact. The layers are not attached.

Not to sound snarky, but if you're going to collect artwork, you might want to consider learning about conservation and buying items to help protect your stuff. No point in spending $$$ if you're just going to stick your cels in any plastic bag you can find and hope for the best.

BTW, there's more $19.99 SabanMoon specials on E-bay. As I mentioned earlier, if you're planning on bidding, these are not authentic SabanMoon backgrounds. One of them has some sequence numbering that starts with "#136". This refers to an episode number. So, yeah...these are just backgrounds that the studio might have had lying around, or something that was paired with it later from something else.

I have read a lot on cel conservation, thanks. And I do use cel bags and cel books and all acid-free materials all stored upright in a dimly-lit temperature-controlled environment; it's not like I leave them lying around at random.

The few places I saw staples mentioned said not to mess with them if you're afraid of tearing the cel. If I'm wrong on this point, so be it. It doesn't mean I know nothing at all about cel collecting. Also, my cels that have staples were already permanently stuck to the backgrounds they came with when I received them.

You might want to consider learning not be so presumptuous and condescending.

Should a seller own a full cut of a cels, they will occasionally pair several of the cels with non-matching backgrounds, and then, at the end, sell the cel with the correct matching background. I keep wondering if this particular seller is just selling off the crummiest cels right now, and then, once those are gone, sell the really nice ones.
