Ok first of all I am well aware that when it comes to Sailor Astarte there isn't that much information to go to or much of a storyline for her. All we know is that her celestial object is located on the other side of the Sun. I did read a post online which claimed that Sailor Astarte was the Senshi of the planet Vulcan but I don't know if that is true as again Sailor Astarte is never said to be the Senshi of this planet. I have heard yet another people claim that she was the Senshi of the Moon of Vulcan. Which would fit her Lunar associations with her desiring to be the Moon Goddess and her unfinished henshin phrase Moon Astarte etc. So my question is for those Sera Myu savvy folks does anyone know which celestial object she guards? It seems like the only thing we know is that she guards an object from the other side of the Sun but I don't think it is necessarily Vulcan.

I'm not very familiar with the musicals, but knowing they had a Dracula one makes it hard for me to consider their original characters cannon or even take them seriously. Yet this is an interesting character. . Astarte is a goddess, known under other names, such as Astoreth and probably most popular as Ishtar. Interestingly she is the goddess of love and has the same sign as Venus. So for me the Vulcan relation kind a fits. But everything suggest a relation to Venus, down to her celebrated day was Friday. That is why is hard to see them as cannon, as Naoko has established a pattern and these characters doesn't conform.

I've been wondering this too recently, as I've been trying to watch "Kessen / Transylvania no Mori - Shin Toujou! Chibi Moon wo Mamoru Senshi-tachi" (I say "trying" because it makes almost no sense to me most of the time, even with subtitles).

I've heard the Vulcan explanation as well, but then why wouldn't she be called Sailor Vulcan? That doesn't seem to match the "other side of the sun" line either, Vulcan as a hypothetical planet has never held that location - in fact, one of the historical "discoveries" of Vulcan was from a transit in front of the sun as seen from Earth (it turned out to be either a near-Earth asteroid or a sunspot).

From the "other side of the sun" line, it seems like the simplest explanation is that Astarte is counter-Earth in the Sailor Moon mythos - a planet sharing Earth's orbit, but is always on the opposite side of the sun. Or perhaps Astarte is the moon of counter-Earth, which would give the goddess Astarte a reason to believe she's the "true" moon goddess.
