Hi all!
I have been searching forever for Sailor Moon in Cantonese.
I know that there are 2 Cantonese versions- one is TVB and one is VCD (Also called Aiko Animation).
I am looking for the VCD version.
Other than different voice actors and actresses, the VCD dub uses in the end of the transformation phrase "make up" instead of "bin san" which used by the TVB dub.
I tried everything - Searching even in Cantonese and asking some people that have clips- I even tried to find some volumes for sale but nothing is available.
I really ask you for help if you could please share or help me get some episodes, especially from the first and the last seasons.
I really really like the Cantonese dubs but hardly heard of the VCD one.
Please help!
Thank you very very very much!

Hi fellow Hong Kong moonie! I know what you're talking about but unfortunately since the series is so old, the VCDs are already out of print and are rare. But it's safe to say that the TVB version was never released onto any VCD or VHS except for the movies. The S movie I can tell is the TVB version but for the R movie, Usagi seems to have a different actress. For the TV series, whatever you find on official VCD should be the Aiko dub. I found a few VCDs on Ebay but it's pricey and only the first season.

I found some videos online of the Aiko dub last year but they've been deleted now. You'll have an easier time searching on Chinese streaming sites but so far, I haven't found any at all. I think your best bet is to ask around while you're in Hong Kong at video stores and thrift shops.

And just FYI, the new Sailor Moon Crystal is now airing in Hong Kong on ViuTV so if you try searching that for Cantonese, you might be able to find some more easily!

Hi! I understand exactly how you feel! I recently found one on ebay. But it is impossible to find the other one now (The one where it says 'make up' instead of 'bin san' when they transform). BUT I was very lucky and bought it in year 2008 online and I think it's sold out now. Private message me if you want a copy. I know that feeling when you want to bring back those Sailor Moon childhood memories back!

Ahhh... I love the Canto dub!! (The Aiko Animation version)- I grew up watching it as a kid..everything was recorded on old VHS tapes though, I wish I could watch them again >.<

I own two of the VCDs (Some photos here: http://dearchibi.com/2013/02/17/my-sailor-moon-corner/) But even then it was expensive when I bought it..

Wow, you have a lot more of the Sailor Moon manga Hong Kong version. It's too bad I never got to watch the entire series in Cantonese since I had to move to the US after end of season one aired on TV. Nostalgia! I wish they re-release these on DVD or something.

Hi all,

Thanks for clearing up the whole VCD (make up) and TVB (bin sin) thing, i got really confused when i started re-watching them recently, I could've sworn that what I use to watch it as a kid they use to say "make up". So thanks for that. =^_^=

So i'm just new here, and like everyone else, i'm also looking for the cantonese version and have been for a few years without any luck. Am I correct is saying that basically all the sailor moon videos are out of print, and TVB didn't release anything so you would only find them second hand?

Also thank you Sakuya, i was wondering about the sailor moon crystal in cantonese. Hopefully they'll release them as DVD box set soon, though i wish they would also re-release the old cantonese version.

New poster and also necro thread, but I would like to say, I just have found some of my burned-to-DVD set, 23 discs for the original series, 17 for Sailor Stars. It doesn't seem like we had seasons 2-4 though, which I guess is why I never understood the story. I was asking my mom to see if she could find the series we had as I know we watched it as a kid, but we feared my dad may have thrown it out. Turns out my mom forgot she had stashed it under my sister's bed among her books, alongside Hello Kitty and Candy Candy (of which I don't remember watching) before the last time my dad went on a dump-everything spree. If I get the time to back it up and rip the discs, I may come back and post a torrent or something. Also weird thing is the OP/ED is still in Japanese, despite the fact that I am aware the non-TVB version should have the Canto OP. Weird. This version does use the "Make Up!" instead of "Bin San!" so it should be the right version.

Very interesting, please rip it and keep it in a safe place! It is so rare. I remember watching season 2 on TVB and that is the version where they yell "Bin San" instead of "Make Up". The VCD releases are from a different dubbing company and uses "Make Up". Either way, keep all that you have because the TVB version is even more rare!

I would say the TVB version is much easier to find, as ktkkt.com seems to have all the seasons of the TVB version, assuming it doesn't go down or they put it back up if they do go down. They do put their watermark on it and the encoding isn't great, so it's not a "clean" version, but it is viewable.
