I wanted Episode 46 homage within the 1st Season actually though. It's my favorite fight scene. However, too much going on in Cosmos for that scene, overally crowded. The designs are PERFECT, this is how it should have been from the get-go though. Hoping we get a future Sailor Moon anime project after this. We can only hope since I'm wanting way more. They definitely got their best team together for this one I'd have to say.

I'm glad Sassy Mars is back again
I'm willing to bet 90's Rei is probably still in Tadano's heart whenever she draws her, even now. Honestly, more power to her if that's the case. :P

Chibi Chibi looks like a Christmas ornament...too cute.
I *think* she and the Starlights are actual settei drawings and only the main 10 are new illustrations. Thankfully the Starlights' poses are nice and Chibi Chibi's proportions make the pose cute, lol.

I think Tadano’s designs have been a godsend especially paired with a better director, but I agree that I think her actual art has been pretty underwhelming. I wouldn’t say the art is particularly bad, but there’s just a lack of any kind of “oomph” in contrast to the trailers we’ve been getting.

Regardless I think people are doing too much about the Sailor Animamate designs when we haven’t even seen them in motion yet. The animators are clearly taking a lot more liberties this time, so I think it’ll be fine.

I never thought I'd miss sassy 90's Mars, but I do. The few moments when she chides or teases Usagi actually make her more likable in Crystal. I love manga Mars, but none of the girls really felt like themselves in Crystal and that was only partially the manga's fault.
Like I always say all the senshi looks so stiff in crystal. they don't have any personality at all. No individuality.

Ah yes, the Senshi hive mind.

At this point in the reboot there not much they can do about it but it did really grind my gears that any friendship between the inners was almost nonexistent. They almost never hung out without Usagi present. I get that it’s their duty to protect the Princess but they’re still teenage girls. It wouldn’t of killed them to add a few slice of life elements or gags here and there to make their friendship seem more believable. I’m not talking 90’s level of slice of life but something. Or even animated a few of the side stories.

I’m glad we’re finally seeing Heavy Metal Papillon, Phi, Chi, Lethe & Mnemosyne cause I was getting worried some of them might be cut.

I hope the desert act from the manga with L & M is done justice in Cosmos cause it’s such a good act, it really dives deep into L & M’s motives and with them not being pro good or pro evil, but just wanting an end to war in general

Hopefully we have a little bit more of interaction between the girls in the movie and it's not solely focused on Usagi so much that their deaths have no bearing at all within the universe (aka the school's teachers/staff and the girls' respective families...)

Even in the 90s anime by Stars, their dynamic had changed - they were more focused on protecting Usagi by the very end rather than fighting as a team like previously as Usagi's title and status as Princess was becoming little and little more prominent.
But we could still see individual character dynamics within the group - like in the scene at the school backyard during Lead Crow's final episode, by their lines and body language, each girl has a different addition to the group.
Minako is the de-facto leader who makes the final call and has a head-on approach, especially via her words.
Ami is her polar opposite, more laid back with a cool-headed approach.
Makoto is pretty much by then Usagi's bodyguard/protector of sorts.
Rei is her confidante.
It's miles better than whatever Crystermos has tried to be selling us from the 2nd arc.

Even if in the 5th season, the meaningful interactions of the Inners & Usagi are quite minimal (which is one of my biggest complaints), at key moments, their friendship still shines.

There's a massive contrast from Stars in which Minako claims to abandon her dreams and future to serve Usagi while in the 90s anime, in her idol ep Usagi, Ami and Makoto all back her up on pursuing her dreams and how it is important for her to live her life.

I hope atleast in the beginning, they all have funny and relatable interactions like in the SMC3 opener. :mameshiba:

To me, that's one of the reasons why I wasn't thrilled in the manga/Crystal back then as it made the other Senshi feel a bit flat and lifeless.

Regarding putting Mamo-chan, I don't like the Non-localized translation of Mangas and Anime, since not all anime/manga fans are even interested in Japanese culture, although it is good that they no longer flip/mirror the pages of Manga in translation.

Yeah. In Spain we don't dub Crystal seasons 1-3, but we have a dubbed version of Eternal in Netflix, with all the -chan, -sama, -san ... and it sounds terrible, yeah lol, but it seems it was mandatory. At least our Hotaru didn't have to say "Setsuna-mama, Michiru-mama and Haruka-papa", she said "mamás Setsuna y Michiru, y papá Haruka" , which is how it would be said in correct Spanish. I guess as -mama and -papa are not honorifics, they didn't have to leave them like that.

When stars arrived in the 90's anime the inners become 100 percent in the background and I really hate it for that. For me the best version of Sailormoon is still R.

To me Classic + R is the best overall - story, characters, overall vibe.
As much as S shines because of HaruMichi and the quest for the Messiah and Hotaru, it lacks presence from the Inners in the story - they're still there and have their stories (as part of their character development - Ami's low self-esteem, Minako's doubts about her personal life/happiness etc...) but as 'Sailor Soldiers', they don't contribute much to the war or story.

I absolutely love the 90s anime up to the middle of R (up to the cleansing of the Ayakashi Sisters) and despite it not being bad - in fact after that there's even little filler or MOTD episodes, it's a bit lacking in the urgency and dangerousness of the Black Moon members for me.
I'm much more invested in Usagi bumping into a Droid impersonating a self-care cream shop attendant and fighting in a cosmetics shop than Esmeraude targeting Chibi-Usa's pre-school.
They should have upped the battles but I guess they didn't have the same funds as a shounen anime.

Unfortunately in Stars, up until the last few episodes, the Inners are not even background characters - they're gag characters who are Three Lights fangirls - they have zero investment in the story or Animamates' threat up until the identity reveal.

Happy birthday to her and Ayako Kawasumi.

Dragon Ball is Goku franchise, Precure is Pink Precure franchise, Saint Seiya is Seiya franchise, in Yugioh! and Digimon focus is on main main characters.

In Toei anime, regardless of how many main characters there are, everything in the end revolves around the titular ones.
Actually, in many other series it is like that.

As for Inners, Toei probably didn't know what else to do with them after certain point.

Outers were the next best thing, apparently.

Classic is still the best overall anime iteration of Sailor Moon to me. Even with the MoTD deviations I still think it has Naoko’s vision and aesthetic intact overall (If we put aside the character of Rei) and added a lot of extra character development/plot that Naoko just couldn’t due to the rushed nature of the manga. SatoJun has such a deep understanding of the genre.

While S is my personal favorite it was more of Ikuhara using the show as an outlet more than anything else. I think his own ego and personal whims got in the way from time to time which is why he is better suited to creating his own works.
