Considering the script is written by no one other than the person who works on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, this is so weird. He also did Eternal and it sucked.
Why is it so hard to adapt the Sailor Moon manga now?
Headbutting somewhere in the production cycle is probably the cause. There is no excuse for a 30 year completed manga to be stumbling in so many directions and that's personally the only reason I can think.

Oh yeah, and the restrictions Toei may have in place for how much resources Sailor Moon gets. Maybe they only supply a few animators and expect PNP and others to handle the rest. Toei's putting in how much they are getting out $$ wise for this Collab..lol

At least some scenes are said to be exceptional though so some of the staff do care.

Because a faithful adapation of the manga story is not fit for a movie format, simple as that. It could have worked only if major changes to the manga plot were made and we know it was never an option

Yeah, perhaps the Starlights and Kakyuu were mentioned in passing after their deaths, I don’t exactly remember if they do or not but we don’t get another appearance from them. Seeing as the director added the scene with Usagi’s family then I feel like it would’ve been nice to have something similar for them, especially seeing how they used Seiya so heavily in the promo leading up to the movie.

Also, while my Japanese ability is decent, I was a bit confused when Guardian Cosmos was speaking and we had a flashback to NQS. Were they implying that she herself was NQS? I was confused.

Anyway positive points to come when I wake up.

Is it true that there is a scene showing the collapse of Neo-Crystal Tokyo and Mamoru leading the senshi to some kind of war towards the end of the movie?

Thanks for the review @Jawshx .

Quick question-Is the same stock footage reused more than once? If not, I don’t think I’ll necessarily be bothered by that. To me, pretty “stock” attacks and transformations has always been part of the Sailor Moon charm. But if they reuse the same ones repeatedly, then I find it cheap. I like how the R movie had a mix of them. They used the stocks but then when the Sailors Re-used the attack it was real time. That would have been ideal.

The part about Mamoru it don’t remember hearing about. You’re correct in saying that we do see Crystal Tokyo destroyed, though. Sailor Cosmos is seemingly the only one left alive and she’s standing on an icy pillar with tears running down her face saying ‘What should I do now?’ Or something like that ( it’s the same scene from the trailer, y’know where’s she’s looking up at the Moon)

Let’s see..

The Starlights transform again (this time with wings)
Sailor Moon does her 90’s throwback transformation
Kakyuu transforms
Chibi Usa transforms
Sailor Moon transforms again (Eternal version)
Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss (x2)
Silver Moon Crystal Power Therapy Kiss x2/3
Sailor Cosmos transformation
Amazoness/ Chibi-Usa attack stock footage
Galaxia transformation
Galaxia stock attack
Inner/Outers modified stock footage
Kakyuu’s attack(s) x2
Starlights stock attacks
Animamates stock attacks.

It was.. a lot.

Also to clear up the Galaxia ‘r*pe’ scene.

We don’t actually see any sort of graphic sexual assault, thank god. But a man is on top of her, strangling her while other men are in the background laughing demonically, weapons in hand. So I guess you could call it a r*pe metaphor? It actually works as a good juxtaposition because while she is remembering all this she is also the one strangling Sailor Moon. She probably has PTSD from the event and is reliving her trauma through this, as if it gives her some kind of agency back that was stolen in the past. I thought it was a really good addition that added depth to her character. The movie would’ve been a lot better if it had more introspective moments like this one.

Yikes.. I was hoping they’d at least give Moon’s attacks alternate stock footage since she does them a few times since they gave her an alternate transformation.. at least the senshi don’t have repeats, save for Kakyuu.

Thank you so much for sharing your impressions and comments on both movie!!
Also, why is it that Kakkyuu and the Starlights get one hit K.I’d and yet somehow the Amazon Quartet have invincibility?
Plot releated purpose, Naoko needed an in story "audience" with whom Cosmos could interact and tell about herself and her story.
Some of the storytelling was really confusing. Like, why does Sailor Moon lose her wings and her Eternal Tier breaks only for it to magically re-appear in the stack footage 2 minutes later? There’s no scene of them regenerating (from what I can recall?) Maybe I just missed something but it all seemed a bit pointless.
So Moon just gets her wings back after the stock footage for Silver Moon Crystal Power kiss plays out??

I could be misremembering but I remember thinking to myself that it was weird that she randomly got her wings back.. maybe it was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ type of thing? How does she get them back in the manga?

She does not get them back, she sprouts new "real" feathered wings after realising why Chaos and its avatars wanted her light. Until that moment her uniform was wingless

I guess this flashback would explain the reason why Galaxia hated and left her planet.

It's pretty likely this scene is a metaphor to that. I guess it's never explained how she survived to that attack.

Me reading Jawshx reviews.....

Thank god this is over..................................

Well..... Let's look at the bright side, at least the reboot has served to show the japanese animation fans of the world that a faithful adaptation of a manga is not always good.
