So there's at least two different versions of the DIC opening. One version has this text appear in the beginning:

FROM A FAR AWAY
PLACE AND TIME
EARTH'S GREATEST
ADVENTURE IS
ABOUT TO BEGIN
Does anybody know which episodes include this text?

I figured it was at the beginning, but I wasn't sure if it was for a whole season (like until the Doom Tree saga) or just a few episodes. It's interesting because DIC generally used the same opening and ending for both the first and second series.

Just checked YouTube and the first version with the text lasted for the whole Jedite arc (10 episodes) so the second appeared on the episode after he's gone.

EDIT: Oh wow, the season 2 "Lost Episodes" also had the first version. :orly:

Didn't know about that until now since I never saw the dub of those episodes since their Toonami premiere in 98 (back when they were cutting openings entirely).

Thanks! Yeah, the Toonami airings typically didn't use the openings. They would slip a few times, I know the first airing of "No Turning Back" included the pre-episode preview and opening. YTV, as far as I know, always aired the openings.

So for the DIC dub, there are two openings. Both are virtually the same, other than the text at the beginning. The ending credits use the animation for "Heart Moving", but with clips from the DIC opening.

The movies were given a new opening with clips from each film. The ending credits used animation of the moon in space. The first movie used "The Power of Love" for an ending, while S and SS used "Nothing at all". The DVD release uses the original opening, but with the English song. The ending credits are kept for each film.

The TV airing for S used the movies opening, while the edited VHS release had a whole new opening using clips from S and SS. The ending credits used the first half of "Tuxedo Mirage", but with a non-vocal version of the DIC outro. The uncut VHS and DVD releases used the third S opening, with the English song. The Japanese ending credits were kept.

The TV airing for SS uses a textless VHS rip of the second opening, but with the Japanese logo replaced. This only aired on YTV, and never on Cartoon Network. The VHS release uses the same opening, but the beginning is changed (it uses part of the VHS S opening) to avoid nudity. The ending credits used the second half of "Tuxedo Mask", with an extended version of the DIC outro. The uncut VHS and DVD releases used the second SS opening, with the English song. The Japanese ending credits were kept.

Wow, this makes sense because none of the SS English dubbed openings that I've seen on Youtube match what I remember seeing on YTV all those years ago. Do you know where I can find a video of the SS opening that aired on YTV online?

No clue. I could never find clips from the YTV airing of Sailor Moon anywhere. I'm guessing Canadian fans didn't care or couldn't afford VCRs. P-:
