I have a feeling when part 2 is out if part 1 is still in theaters, the box office for part 1 will get a boost. I mean it is one story arc and many people might go to see both parts at once. As someone on here mentioned there are people that must commute a lot to go to a cinema that has it and it makes sense to kill two birds with one stone and save you a second trip as well.

I don’t think both are gonna play simultaneously, or at least that’s never anything I considered. I just assumed part 2 would take part 1’s slot. Hmm, it’d be nice to see them concurrently tbh!

I think they will both be available for at least a couple of weeks, but who knows. I mean isn't a month a little bit too little?

Each Digimon Tri film was planned to be released only for three weeks (although it gets a four week).

In the fifth week, only very few theatres were still releasing the film.

If Eternal is similar, Part 1 will hardly be in theaters

No, each Tri film came out a month after their premieres while Kizuna was 7 months after.

They always give the figures for the weekend, and then at the end of the week, we have the figures for the week. But for a second part which is not in the top 10, while part 1 from the first weekend, was.
It can still change then. But it's not surprising, part 2 of movies going out just after the first one have always lowest figures. At this point, we can assume that the movies are not hugely successfull in theather in Japan, but I still feel a huge streaming success internationnaly if the Netflix deal is true... Wait and see :)

That's not true. Part 2 of two-part movies usually earn more that Part 1 which makes sense since people want to see the conclusion to the story (e.g. Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Avengers etc.)

Nope, please check your Information.

Speaking about films produced back-to-back (I'm of course not speaking here about sequel made later) like Sailor Moon Eternal :

Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 2 had less entries than the part 1; Matrix Revolutions 3; Kill Bill 2; Hobbit part 3; Pirates of the Caribbean 3; Back to the Future Part III; Fifty Shade Freed, Superman 2...

are just few examples of movies who went out few months after the first or second part, produced back to back and manages less entries than the previous part.

But you're right few movies like Twilight, Harry Potter and Avengers did the opposite. But they are exceptions.

Has anybody been able to find how much Part 2 grossed in its opening weekend? Because it didn't make it to the top 10, none of the usual websites that report box office numbers have included it. The movie at #10 during that weekend earned ¥30,585,300 which means Part 2 grossed less than that. The question is how much less. For comparison, Part 1 grossed ¥56,492,140 in its opening weekend.
