Hi guys I thought I would go through a list of some Sailor Moon misconceptions propagated by many websites that are just wrong.

1. Mamoru is the Senshi of both the Earth and the Sun. This is simply false, it was stated in the series that Senshi can only be Senshi of one celestial object and there can not be two or more Senshi of the same celestial object. It was stated time and time again that Tuxedo Mask is Earth's Senshi but he is not the Senshi of the Sun. Now he does have some solar associations but they are associations only. Some use the fact that his crystal is the Golden Crystal and his zodiac sign is Leo but that evidence is faulty. First of all his Sailor Crystal is the Golden Crystal because of the fact that gold is the opposite of silver aka Sailor Moon's crystal. As for Leo again Leo is a sign that goes well with Cancer Sailor Moon's sign. Plus Earth in traditional astrology was never given a zodiac sign to rule over. However to take this further Sailor Star Fighter is also a Leo and Sailor Galaxia wears golden armor and is called the Golden Queen. By this same logic are we to assume Seiya is also the Senshi of the Sun based on the fact that she is a Leo and even is associated with the Sun in the mythological background of the Three Lights or that Galaxia is the Sun's Senshi because she wears gold and is more associated with gold then Tuxedo Mask? Of course not besides even with the other Senshi their Sailor Crystals do not match up to the metals associated with their planets. IE Sailor Mercury's crystal is blue and isn't the color of the element Mercury. Sailor Saturn's crystal is violet and not the greyish, black or brown color of lead etc. Sailor Chibi Moon gains the Pink Moon Crystal which is not a color associated with the Moon. By this wacked out logic are we to assume that Chibi Moon is no longer the Senshi of the Moon because of the fact that her crystal is no longer silver of course not. Some have used the comment of Queen Nehellenia in the manga when she refers to Tuxedo Mask as Prince of Earth protected by the Sun. However again this is not proof as the Sun was said to have a guardian and a parental role towards the entire solar system. Queen Serenity even refers to the Sun Father Sun. So by this theory if Mamoru is the Senshi of the Sun is he also Queen Serenity's father? Of course not this is metaphorical language. Further more senshi are not senshi of colors or metals and when it comes to the Sun anyway it is associated with many colors such as Gold, Red, Yellow, Orange and Bronze just to name a few. There as of yet is no canon information on who the Sun's Senshi is although there are good candidates like say Hina Kusaka and Helios.

2. The Light of Hope in the 90s show is Sailor Cosmos. This is false The Light of Hope was Sailor Galaxia's starseed and Sailor Cosmos is the future form of Sailor Moon so they are not the same. Besides it would contradict the series canon. Since we know that star seeds are needed for a person to be a senshi this would mean that the starseed of the Senshi of the Galaxy has the star seed of the Senshi of the Cosmos. Plus Naoko Takeuchi stated that Sailor Cosmos did not appear in the 90s anime. When Chibi Chibi took that form reminiscent of Cosmos it was just a red herring.

3. Parallel Sailor Moon is canon. As much as I loved Parallel Sailor Moon it is not canon. First of all it is known that the future for all of the Senshi is Crystal Tokyo. Also the fact that in the Sailor Moon anime and manga it is stated that Chibiusa is Usagi and Mamoru's only child.

So tell me what are some common misconceptions that you have seen on the net or in real life that are nonsense?

My list:

  • Watching Sailor Moon makes boys gay. The mess moral guardians made here in Italy got Naoko Takeuchi to ban the series from us for years...
  • The Sailor Soldiers have at most the power to destroy a building. Long story short, you'd need SUPERMAN and similars to take on a partially awakened Sailor Senshi, a fully awakened one could wipe out a continent, and at Eternal Level they could take on Golden Frieza and win... Anyway, it was put down better than I could here.
  • Sailor Pluto is manipulating everything to insure that the Silver Millennium happens.
More may come in later posts.

Not sure about the Silver Millennium thing, but she always feels manipulative behind the scenes to me. :)

She did have something of manipulative... Thing is, she's often presented as some sort of criminal mastermind that's trying to make sure Silver Millennium gets founded, and willing to do a number of crimes that are insane even for the Outers' standards.

Yeah I remember the whole nonsense of that moronic psychologist saying that Sailor Moon makes boys gay. Notice how patriarchal she was in that she thought that watching boy's shows did not make girls gay. Either way I could see why Naoko Takeuchi got upset at that nonsense.

I always thought of it more that Crystal Tokyo will rise but Pluto doesn't know how or when. She's not omniscient, at least not enough to know everything about the timeline (though she likely gets a visual hint on occasions). All she really does is guard a door and do her part when fighting monsters. If her visions require her to go over her Princess's head, so be it, but she's only slightly less in-the-dark as all the other Sailors.

Simply put, Sailor Pluto is not a freaking Time Lord. She doesn't know everything about time, she just protects it. If anything, Queen Serenity would be the more likely manipulator behind it all. She probably had more than enough time and foresight to prepare for the future, even more than Pluto.

"Everyone in the Black Moon clan was banished to Nemesis by Neo Queen Serenity."

No!

In the manga, only Death Phantom was banished there. Everyone else willingly joined Wiseman as part of a separatist movement.

In the anime, malcontents attacked Crystal Tokyo and those who evaded cleansing by the Silver Crystal willingly fled the planet and ended up on Nemesis.

The only place that directly said anything about "banishing" was a line in the DiC dub from the King, which in the original was his speaking of how those who refused cleansing had fled into space. DiC changed this to them being "banished" instead.

To be honest, I'm not sure this one is quite so concrete. Of course Cosmos doesn't appear in the finalized version of the show that we have now and to say otherwise is ridiculous but I think a strong case could be made that the 90s anime had planned on having her be included. In addition to that scene of Chibi Chibi having a Cosmos-like appearance, the majority of Stars seemed to constantly be associating Chibi Chibi with Usagi. There was zero foreshadowing of Chibi Chibi being Galaxia's Star Seed and no reason to believe that all and every reason to believe she had some sort of connection with Usagi. Rather than a red herring, the decision to make Chibi Chibi Galaxia's Star Seed seems more like a last minute cop out from the writers.

The misconception I get tired of hearing is the one about how Sailor Moon isn't a kid's show in Japan. Even Roland Parliament, who was the director of the DiC dub was still making this claim a year or so ago. Sailor Moon is clearly intended to be a kid's show in Japan. The manga ran in a shoujo magazine targeted at young girls aged 9 through 15 and if you look at all the commercials for the 90s anime toys on youtube, they all have little kids in the commercials. Japan has different standards for what's considered a kid's show than America though even over here, I recently saw the uncut Sailor Moon DVDs in the kid's section at Target next to Pokemon and Ninja Turtles.

I don't quite understand how anyone thinks there could be a legitimate Senshi of the Sun in the vein of Sailor Moon, female or male, Sailor or not. Queen Metalia originated from solar radiation in the manga, and in the anime, Beryl tried to cover the sun with sunspots to darken the Earth and bring Metalia. She's basically a giant skin cancer demon <_<

If there was ever a "Sailor Sun" or a designated "Guardian of the Sun" whatever, you'd think that person would have awakened or activated to help the Silver Millennium during the first attack on the Moon, since Metalia came from there. Or, during the first season, a Sailor Sun would have fought back to prevent the sun being covered with evil sunspots.

All indications suggest nobody was ever up there to defend it, and it's not Mamoru in modern day.

Here's one similar to the "Sailor Moon makes boys gay" one: "All male Sailor Moon fans are either perverts, gay, or both."

:nope:
