I remember he said on Facebook it's Toei who asked him to redraw the same art (they even sent him the images they wanted him to copy), give the characters thicker lines and more glossy coloring. It wasn't his choice. His personal art is much better than the official art he did for Sailor Moon. We don't know why Toei wanted that. Maybe they thought this way the art would look more modern and vivid? Maybe they wanted a uniform style guide they could use for international licensing?
I wish people would stop bashing Marco so much. It’s obviously he had limitations with working with Toei.

I think the bigger question is why hasn’t Toei ever officially released these sketches before.

Toei (or more likely PNP ?) even asked him corrections that made the art worst than it initially was. Like they asked him to change eyes and making them really weird, and it was initially an Itoh’s art so nothing was needed to change reallyyyyy…

I don’t really like his classic / R illustrations, colors are way too flashy and characters don’t even really look like Tadano’s art (like those eyes are so big omg). They made some corrections in these arts recently (US BRD re-release I think) and it’s a bit better though.

The problem is that his own creations do not reflect the anime.

Whatever he draws, it doesn't reflect. Same for Lady Oscar (The Rose of Versailles), the image copied for the French box, it was obvious that it was a copy and not the authentic one.

Marco has said that every piece of artwork he did for Toei had to be approved by them, as well as PnP.

I think it's gorgeous. The only thing off to me is the skirt is indeed too long. Body proportions have always been exaggerated. I see nothing wrong on that end.
I'm glad you think it's gorgeous! Naoko does tend to exaggerate the body proportions.

Put all my time and effort into the face and hair, and then the body comes out a poorly scribbled mess
How much effort do you put into the hands and feet?

The people on the thread calling him a convicted criminal is a bit of a stretch. I mean Japan is very slave-ish about sticking to their rules so I’m not surprised. It’s true that camera flash can cause a picture to degrade over time but it doesn’t look like the flash was on in this case. Besides, it’s not like Naoko is the new Picasso or Davinchi so it seems a bit extra to go to such lengths.

It was a little short sighted of him to post on Twitter, though, for sure. Rich too, considering he himself called people out for making fan cams of Eternal.

I hope this incident takes his ego down a notch or two.

Sorry guys, it's wrong, okay, but I'm grateful to see the original pictures and the original materials used by Naoko. Come on, as though we hadn't done anything wrong in our entire life.

These are illustrations we've all seen a thousand times already. Seeing photos of them is hardly the same as seeing them in person, so all this does is run the risk of causing the originals further damage. It's Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe's dress levels of empty-headed entitlement.
Exactly.

It also opens up the possibility of future events not having original art pieces on display, stricter security, or no more events at all. Clearly we can see the originals aren't in the best condition, so why risk harming them even further? There were plenty of other areas in the exhibition that allowed photography. Taking those photos and them bragging about it to the public is so tacky. It also gives a bad look to foreign fans. None of the Japanese users on twitter took photos of that collection.
