It's interesting that even the PGSM Senshi actresses have never regarded their PGSM days as "dark history," & have occasionally mentioned about it & shown their pride of being a "Senshi," hence their identification w/ their respective Senshi characters, on their blogs even to these days, but the franchise is seemingly seeing it as "dark history" nowadays.

Call me stupid but I never realized that Satou was still an episode director during stars. And I do realize now that he worked on like the 3 best episodes in this season (last Neherenia, Usagi and Seiya date, and UraNep death). God bless this man !

The fact that they barely never met Takeuchi because she had a proxy there is a little weird, and weirder is that she still seems to be using that same way of working with the new anime staff since Kon had to ask questions to Osabu and not to Takeuchi herself.

I don't think Naoko doesn't deal with anime staff because she thinks she's better than them. Otherwise, she would never talk to the 90s voice actresses, let alone spend holidays with them for years.
She is probably just a very difficult person to deal with. The fact that she shut down Sailor Moon for like 5 years, killling a lot of the franchise's popularity, says a lot about her. If that block took a bit longer to get lifted, Sailor Moon would probably be dead at this point. She almost killed her own franchise.

There is one thing that bothers me: in one hand, it’s totally normal for her to be picky with what is done with the manga, she is the creator and has every right to do that.

But in the other hand, from what we saw, she is also the one curating all the original anime rights and taking all decisions about it (approving DVD box like the Talk Boxes which were canceled because of her iirc, approving Marco’s art, etc…). Sure she is the owner of the rights so she supposedly can do whatever she wants with them… But creatively speaking the original anime is not her work, she wasn’t involved in the main decisions, and I don’t really like that she is the one holding all the power about it whereas it’s not her piece of work, artistically speaking.

The thing is, if Toei was willing to sell back that level of control over the anime to Naoko, to me that suggests they didn't care very much about it in the first place (and certainly the handling of Crysternal Cosmos supports the idea that Sailor Moon just is not a priority for them). In other words, even without Naoko in the driver's seat, I don't think the state of the franchise would be all that different. Maybe more releases would have been approved, but perhaps they would have been worse quality. There's no real way of knowing.

Sailor Moon is a good anime to have a good time, but the series could have gone much further.

Whether it's the 90's anime, or the reboot, they've only scratched the surface. They could have developed the universe better, extended it, but I think it's a waste 30 years later.

Yeah, Kyōko Mizuki & Yumiko Igarashi with Candy Candy. They've got a dispute between them, so the manga and the anime rights are frozen.

It comes down to japanese law in terms of copyright. In case of Candy Candy anime or Sailor Moon 90's anime, japanese law protects the original authors regardless of the different adaptations of the story and the team/big companies behind them.
American and European law works differently. They tend to protect the corporations rather than the author.

All we ever had was speculation. The most ridiculous theory so far is that she got mad because other countries censored the animated version. Like the anime was Princess Naoko's Beloved ( ) work of art she put all her heart into.

During her trip to France, Naoko spoke highly of the French dubbing. Besides, it seems to me that she had said that she really liked the French voices.

Rumors about Naoko remain rumors. Afterwards, it's true that the thing that is said about her: she is a cow's skin in business, she makes the rights holders wait, that it was always complicated with her.

It must have been a business reason. She had just formed a new company which held the rights for different Sailor Moon adaptations running all over the world. I think it just took her a lot of time to learn how things are done in the business world, get her affairs in order and organize her company. Then she slowly started opening up licensing again under strict terms and conditions that gave her a tight control over the franchise.

Takeuchi wanted the animators to put armbands on the eternal forms of the Senshi when they are nonexistent in the manga, she makes the lives of animators difficult.
