They wouldn't anyway. I like the designs, but now that we have suddenly a lot if them I came to a realisation. This project has no unique style. The inners look in style, but Usagi and Chibi Usa designs look like a completely different show. Then the outers - Uranus is completely odd out in the designs. Tahen Helios looks exactly like the 90s, while Mamoru nothimg like it and now we have another 3 male characters that are in completely different style. This can be goid, actually great having characters that do not resemble each other at all, but something is odd about the mish-mash of styles. It is like characters that are from different shows. Almost no signiture look. Which can be a good thing. I do not like the syndrome of the same face and it might be a very diverse and cool piece, combining different style. Tiger Eye and Fish Eye give me Gibli vibes.
What I wonder: the trio looks really likeable, nothing like villains at all. the 90s anime gave them personality and they got their redemption, but as far as i remember, in the manga they are plain evil. it will be interesting to see how the movie handles them. because if they are likeable and the senshi kill them, things will get complicated ^^

faithful to the source material means to me, not altering heavily the plot or characters. minor adaptations are and always will be necessary. and for that you need creative and talented storywriters and directors.
Totally agreed with that! I think Dragon Ball is a great exemple to that. Some fillers for sure but very truthful to the manga story. The first season of crystal could have been done into 26 episodes. A monthly manga CANNOT be adapted in a format 1:1... characters need development... it was not that evident in the 90’s because parallel to the manga the classic anime fill up perfectly the holes...

The worst for me in the first season is that they dare to add some new plots even when they knew they didn’t have time for it... that’s for me insane... I hope one day we will have some explanation... but it seems that in Japon people are never really interviewed... I think the season 2 and 3 was much more better in term of adaption even if they suffered as well a lot from this 1:1 format (and season 2 was also quite unjustified dislike because of being part more or less of first season block)

(I remember when I first read the Sailor Moon manga when I was still a teenager (I’m 37 now) I was totally surprised about the huge difference in the story. I thought at this time (1996?) that manga was always based on anime lol)

Fish eyes in the manga is like this his hair is turning turcoise in the bottom. Check the materials collection. He is manga accurate yay! They are supposed to look harmless and cunning in the manga at first, baiting the senshi, especially Hawks.

his design is so campy. the dead fish on the crotch ^^ naoko takeuchi should be a guest judge at ru paul’s drag race lol

Can you please stop [BLEEP] n the manga here? Crystal has been around for 6 years. It is clearly not for you. Just move on an discuss the version you woship.
I'm not saying it's good or bad, just discussing their roles.

They do have better characterization in the 90s anime but they also took so many episodes. it would be good to take a middleground in the new movie.

See where you are going... These films are adapting a whore stor arc... Do you think they can give them characterisation. They are monstrs of the month. SSadly they wont get more they do in the manga or it will be in the expense of what matters - the senshi...

it is totally possible to make some minor changes without wasting much screen time. If they were handled well they could also help the senshi expand their roles. Instead of killing them, the senshi could just help them break control from the Dead Moon Circus and live a new life.

Even in the manga, they were just innocent animals turned by dark power and not beyond redemption at all.

I agree, if this was a tv series, with movies though... Very few time for that.... There is so much hapenin in the first part of the manga. A lot of cooler villains were glossed over, so I personalky can survive. Not fond of the trio from the Supers.

are they not supposed to be all females in the manga version (contrary to the supers anime)?

it’s not like I hate them in the old anime. But SuperS was such a boring season after S... I mean now that we can binge the 4th season I like the comedy part etc... but at this time it was one episode per week.

Who do you mean? In the manga the trio is still male, but the crossdresser is Hawks.
