I don’t have an issue. It seems your issue is that you don’t want to accept the fact the series was made for little girls.

They literally made Sailor Moon video games and books to help little kids learn hiragana.
please people use characters from all types of media to sell products to children sailor moon is not unique in that sense. Shonen jump is a great equivalent to Nakayoshi. There are multitude of series in both publications that are not the kind of children’s media you are referencing. Japanese age demographics are much more nuanced than here in America. So calling it strictly one or the other is isn’t wholly accurate.
Also for someone who has cutie honey as their avatar should be aware of that. Lol

...literally every product made when Sailor Moon was on the air was for kids. This was decades before Sailor Moon Wedding certificates, condoms and pads were a thing. But hey, keep kidding yourself buddy.

And what about Cutie Honey? Actually a perfect example, that’s a series with tons of violence and nudity and guess what? It’s a show and manga for kids! Maybe if you did some research you would have known that. In fact, my icon is a scan from a magazine called “Ichinensei”... which means, First Grader! As in, the target audience for that Cutie Honey manga! Wow! See how that works?

Wow, this Fandom moans & groans about everything... I don't have an issue with the Amazoness Quartet with the way they look, plus it's an animated series and those are their actual outfits from the manga. It's just more risqué, however not a cause to get bent all out of shape over... I quite honestly don't understand too much of the issue here. It's a JAPANESE ANIMATED SERIES... :circles:

P.S. Not to mention this is the best the characters have looked from the designs so far.

lmao you all better not see that topless usagi art that naoko did long ago :D
For kids y'all
That was in the Memorial Picture Collection. The description for that particular book includes "This hardcover tribute artbook was self-published by Naoko Takeuchi as a doujinshi on June 30, 1997 and distributed in small numbers at Japan’s Comiket Summer 1997."

It wasn't tied to the anime or manga directly, outside of the toys or media and even the industry itself, including notes from animators and mangaka, seiyuu. So the target audience for that book was specifically adult..

Wow, this Fandom moans & groans about everything..
a little rich coming from you.

they will have the "disgusting extremely revealing" outfit in the movie at the end so deal with it :whee:
And then maybe you will learn to deal with the fact that others have different opinions and be less defensive. Cool.

Kokomo is for elementary school kids.I never said the anime wasn't a kid show.13-14 years old are teens, originally it said the magazine was for 9-15 years old.
Kokomo is for little kids
Shojo is for teens, preteens, and older kids
Shonen is for teens, pre teens older boys
Senien is for adult men
Josie is for adult women

Can we stop being awful to each other about the show. Sailor Moon was aimed at "young girls" but the fan base is quite massive and can be enjoyed by everyone. I know some of you older posters remember the toys they made for kids that were for Freddy Kruger, Aliens, Mortal Kombat and Jason Voorhees and neither of these franchises are made for kids...lol

I mean I still know adults who love Scooby-Doo and Bugs Bunny and I am a fan of for Courage the Cowardly Dog...(don't tell anyone...)

But that's Westerner talk...blah..blah...blah.lol

Im also a fan of Cutey Honey and I know that Cutey Honey Flash is for kids but Shin Cutey Honey and Re: Cutey Honey are definitely not. Go Nogai....sigh.

I believe Cutey Honey F replaced Sailor Moon Sailor Stars in 97 or whatever.

As for the Eternal movie, in my personalopinion, It depends on who they are targeting the movie towards. I dont remember seeing any article anywhere that said Sailor Moon Eternal movie was being marketed toward "little girls". I thought they said it was for former Sailor Moon fans and as was the series and to attract newer fans for Crystal as a whole. Fans is pretty broad. We know Sailor Moon is technically aimed at "young girls" not "little" but there are plenty of grown adults who do scene breakdowns and reaction videos too...lol

I think we are all just making convo until we get more info on the movie soon.

I personally feel like that when this movie gets released, most of the people going to go see will be the older crowd in Japan.

When I see it was for little girls I think of the anime version. In fact, the Manga was made for young girls probably around Usagi's age 12/13 because the story revolves around romance and balancing life as a junior high student. Something pre-teen girls usually are new to but what 6/7 year old girl is heavily worried about romance? Naoko even said she based the story off her junior high experiences.

The majority of Sailor Moon fans are well in their late 20's and upper 30's now and could care less about the Quartet's wardrobe cause they are not real and will not be used in any obscene way to please the pervs.

This is no shade to the younger or new fans of the show. I love all fans of all ages, genders and nationalities. I was just saying the manga had to have been aimed at preteen girls and Toei was like...let's make money and sell toys and that's what they did with the anime.

Since Eternal is sticking closer to the manga, they should leave it as is. Naoko also must have approved of it, because this is the version she wants to see. Something true to her original manga as far as her own views are concerned. It has the attack animation and transformations from the show but everything else is all manga.

I'm more curious about how they will show Mamoru coughing up blood, Artemis and the rock, and some other scenes too. I dont want them to change it but...I'm just curious to see how manga accurate they are willing to go for this movie. So far they are being exact. We'll know in 2021...

I am sorry guys, but the 90s show had a topless Chibi Usa in front of Pegasus. And she looks like a toddler in comparison.Certain aspects of Sailor Moon are problematic. While the outfits are sexy the way witches 5 or the Black Moon sisters wore sexy outfits, none of the characters are sexualized i context. I agree with people who think this could have been tuned down, especially the ones who stated that this might hurt the movie ratings outside Japan. And Sailor Moon is for kids and Toei should be aware by now it is internationally popular. This designs might indeed the way the movies are see in USA and Europe indeed. But once again it is not like Sailor Moon is going to turn it into a fanservice galore. And it is still exciting as these re so far the best the designs look. And I am not talking about the outfitsm but the faces, hair and colors.

Why can't we state opinion without getting personal.

I‘m glad the project is not supposed to please primarily or match the prude morals of the US-american audience, where nudity is always perceived as sexual or erotic. Japanese culture is a whole different thing compared to „western“ and if we like anime and manga, we should be careful to measure it with our standards.

Sailor Moon might have started as a franchise for younger girls, but it grew up over the years, and so did the fans. Eternal/Crystal in Japan is clearly targeted towards an adult (female) audience. But if kids will watch Eternal, I don‘t think they will be shocked or bothered by the quartet‘s outfits.

Technically, “Cardcaptor Sakura” is for the same target audience as “Sailor Moon” (Shojo) and I watched it when I was in my early-20s—I recently re-watched the 70 episodes + the new 22 episodes and I greatly enjoyed them. It is a “feel good” anime, perfect to watch during times of fear and uncertainty. The overall message and Sakura’s motto is “everything will be alright.”

If people wish to judge me for watching a “feel good” show (it is under that specific category in Netflix U.S.), then feel free to do so—I give 0 cares.

I am currently re-watching “Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles“ (Shonen) and xxxHolic (Seinen).

We are facing a global pandemic, some of us feel scared, and I feel that certain anime titles makes us feel “good.”

The fact something is targeted at older audience doesn't mean the content is not for kids. After all this was the original target audience. Some of the best fictional stories can be appreciated by kids and adults alike - if the piece of work is good there are nuances you spot dependig on your age. As a kid I never once realized some of the villains are wearing revealig clothes. As an adult some of these make me cringe a bit, but I remind myself these are not actual human beings. There are shows that utilize this to please certain niches, but Sailor Moon never used that. Crystal never had a panty shot or something remotely sexually suggestive.

I say it again Japan is not going to care about the outfits .They had shows with fanservice of little girls. (this is not me saying it's okay). This is tame to their standards .They are defiantly not going to care what the west thinks when it come to this .

Sorry, but kids with their genitals only covered by some sort of a ball and dressing around in lingerie is questionable in any culture.
Honestly, do you really think Naoko drew those girls like that because it's common for preteens in Japan to walk around like that? Do you really think this isn't anything but fanservice?
Please, enough with this "prude U.S. morals" thing. A lot of us (myself included) aren't even North American.
Anyway, I'm not freaking out over anything and this won't me stop me from watching these movies.

Do you really think she designed those characters to fanserve pedophiles?
