No, she just corrected the art. She also corrected Crescent Beam a bit, if you look at Minako's eyes. Being an animation director in anime is about keeping the art consistent and/or on-model by redrawing parts of the animators' frames.

Here's the Sailor Teleport sequence from the R movie, which was done by Hisashi Kagawa. You can see Tadano's corrections next to the original images.
Oh, I see (and yeah, I do see how Kazuko did :minako:'s eyes). I still don't know much about how animation works though that is a future goal of mine... ^_^'

And wow, where did you get those model sheets/corrections? They're very impressive.

The laziness in animation of Sailor Moon Crystal is nothing compare with Shokugeki no Souma's. The season 5 of that anime is like a huge Powerpoint presentation project. :yay::yay::yay:
Wait till you see Twinkle Nora Rock Me, from 1985...

Need I say more? :googly::googly::googly:

And it is really unfair to compare something done in 2014 to something from the 80s. Of course anime back then was quite static. These were the times and the budgets - traditional animation was way more expensive, everything was way harder to correct, unlike digital animation now where everuthing can be corrected in minutes. . That is why I hate it when people compare Crystal to the old show and say oh look at this frame from the 90s - it looks just as bad. But there are things to be taken into consideration like the fact it was completely handrawn, that it was just a tv show and at the times nobody expected it would be remastered and seen in higher resolution etc. When we compare, we should compare stuff done in the same or consecutive years, to make a fair comparison.

No problem. Three-Lights.net has quite a few artbooks released by the animators. Sometimes they include the corrections, sometimes they don't.

While I agree it's unfair to compare anime from 20+ years ago to today's stuff, Twinkle Nora Rock Me looked bad even for it's time. The only similarly bad-looking show I can think of is Chargeman Ken from the early 70's.

Back then the studios put more effort in the technology they had. Now with computer the don’t put as much effort in relation to the possibilities the new technology offers. Nowadays it seem they give a minimum of effort. More quantity, less quality.

Precure has new seasons and movies every year and it makes tons of money every year—and it is all TOEI’s money because Precure is TOEI’s creation.

Why bother with Sailor Moon? A story that belongs to someone else?

Now I haven’t compared the animation of Precure with that of Sailor Moon Crystal, but I imagine TOEI handles and manages Precure better. Precure has over 10 films and over 800 episodes, to date. ::eeklez:

Most contemporary anime titles that I like, though, are very short: they are released as films, OVAs, or tv series with no more than 24 episodes. CLAMP’s “Blood-C“ only had 12 episodes.

I am sure FUNI or VIZ will make your wish come true.

Viz still has the rights when it comes to Sailor Moon. They really did the first 3 season of the old show terribly when it comes to video quality, but physical release of Crystal was handled pretty well.

PreCure may make Toei more money domestically, but what about internationally? "Glitter Force" flopped, didn't it? It doesn't seem like they're trying to make PreCure a thing here in the States, but I don't know how popular it is in other countries.

When it comes o international market Precure as far as I know is no match to Sailor Moon. But I guess they really care more about the domestic market. And this is pure speculation but I think Bandai is sponsoring it and most likely invest a lot in it to make toys. Pretty Cure is created with selling toys in mind way more than Sailor Moon. We have different girls each season with different items, we have the cute faries to turn into plushies. Sailor Moon has a few items and three cats. Of course they make a lot of merch, but Precure is merch machine.

Precure was picked up by Crunchyroll just recently though. Even though I'm not a fan of Precure, I do wish Sailor Moon had it's old popularity again, new toys & such. Toei hasn't treated the series very well at all. Frustrating as it is...
