Okay, deep breath...
I....LIKE it!
First: I am sooo glad there's nothing left of S3 precureish designs!
After the first shock I appreciate them more and mo Like sapphire91, I wanted something more mature, something she posted from S1. Those designs make them look young. But it's not MOEand that makes me happy. Their faces have that very early 90s touch, that character designs from Miyazaki movies also have. Overall, the key-visual is very high quality. Looks at the lines and proportions, I cannot find any flaws. The thin lines work for me as together with the background it reminds me of Takeuchis manga art. I can see in Chibiusas hair some Taichi Nakamura and in Usagi's face some Masahiro Ando, but it's so subtle that i just gives me positive nostalgia. I mean, I DO wish, Sailor Moon would look a bit older here, but what I really like is that Chibiusa looks so childish, instead of an adolescent. She looks really cute, actually and reminds me of a mascot. They look distinct. I can imagine that Japan loves those designs!
I remember when they released Yukie Sakos character designs and I found them really ugly. Today I see some charm, but it's execution is just awful. Look at Jupiter's fuku, Sailor Moon's eyes, Mars' head and Venus' chin.
In Tadano's character design i see not a single flaw, even the "sloppy" collar stars look like she knew what she was doing there. And for the first time I like those longer back ribbons. They give the round-faced senshi something elegant.
Can't wait to see this Sailor Moon angry and with a determined look! I wish they'd release some settei soon.
Let's celebrate this beautiful character design and be happy, they brought back an iconic look to the series. And who knows, they'll bring back Ikuko Itoh for the Stars anime project and we'll get that mature style for the last installment.
EDIT: And OMG they have a new writer! I see light at the end of the tunnel.
