Not surprised, but it would've been nice if they did manage to come out on time.

I suspect they were hopeful to keep the original release date and finally had to accept that it wasn't possible.

The fact is is that if they released it, they wouldn't make anywhere near as much money with theatres at 1/3 capacity, and we want the movies to make money. If they release it at a loss then they'll have a much smaller budget for Stars which means a lower quality product, and we want the series to go out with a bang, not a yikes.

Nobody knows if it won't get worse in the winter, so I will surprised if there aren't more delays. With every other studio we would have seen these films by now. If they don't release more footage for the anniversaty it would be the last nail in the coffin. They did no work on this already announced project for over 2 years and people still defend them... I know I sound ridiculous but this franchise is treated like crap.

People loss their jobs, and people are complaining about a delay?
I think these two things are not related. Why are other project being released on September? Toei simply decided to bindly advertize this without being near completion of the project. The didn't evensay Hey, we have shitty news but see we are trying, here is a proper trailer to look forward to. No, they didn;t even replaced the designs with the revised ones for the reveal video. Show us you are making something out of this half year delay... We will see what is going to happen on June 30th. If they show us something substantial, I am ready to wait and stop being a moron, but this handling of the 6th most popular anime franchise in history is just as ridicoulous.
First they delayed Crystal twice, then they give us unfinished animation twice a month. After that they decided to drastically change the artstyle for season 3 and to erase Crystal identity more or less. Then they started Eternal release of the manga with multiple delays and a questionable translation and presentation to justify these delays. They announce Crystal having a sequel. 6 months later they give us a cold showe with the announcment it will be two movies and not series that could proper adapt the manga arc. Then nothing for two years. Then they announce Tadano as designer. Then another year of nothing, till they revealed unfinished, messy concept art. Then they announce blu ray of the 90s show which is a huge slap in the face because they have zero respect and have no materials for such release. Then a trailer leaks and almost two months after they release the exact same thing that is 10 seconds long, as the rest is taken from the 90s and most of the new footage looks unfinished as hell. It was in the mid of pandemic but they still announced their cash-grabbing merch for September and kept on advertizing a release date (fully knowing at this point they are behind schedule for 1000th time). Now they announce a 5 line announcment of a delay for half a year with the exact same two videos, one of which is of a messy unfinished concept art and the other of a "trailer" that lacks backgrounds. And you guys expect people to clap and cheer for them giving you a release date of part 2. Do you even believe at this point it will be out in time? Yes I am petty and bitter but I am sure a lot of you feel the same way, but don't want to get the backlash so you keep on silent. Alll words and no showing. We have no idea what to exoect a they keep on showng different artstyles each time they show something about Eternal... Show us something and make me feel stupid for thinking you are going to give us a movie that changes artstyles in it is one contuning running time (which we know nothing off) every five minutes. At this point we have seen nothing that screams movie budget, dedicated effort or justify the eternal wait.

Well in all fairness, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. They could be just as choked that it's taking this long since season 3. Delays happen. It sucks, and it's natural to feel disappointed and frustrated, but they probably feel that way too.
I miss the dialogue with fans and press. Why is nobody asking Toei what happened with the production of Sailor Moon since Crystal? There are so many speculations and assumptions, but we never hear(d) anything from the staff about it. I would appreciate interviews with the directors, animators etc. Some behind the scene insights. Initially there was even supposed to be an official blog about Crystal on the official website, but...

I totally understand that they had to delay the movies. But damn, give us something on june 30 to feed our hype, Toei!

I guess I have the mindset that it could be all sorts of things. Maybe some staff they can't do without was in the hospital, or had a family emergency, or gave birth etc. Any that sort of thing can cause delays and frankly is none of our business.

Or maybe there were ready to go and the guys that give the green light were being a pain, or maybe Takeuchi had some demands, the reasons that could be go on and on.

It's not like they're saying to themselves, "gee, wouldn't it be funny to bait the fans? Teehee."

Some of the time was definitely on discussion on where to go from season 3, because -- this is not a knock on Crystal, just being matte of fact here -- Crystal was not as successful as they hoped it would be, so there would've been some talks on how to get that success they hoped for in the first place.

I’m really surprised that Part 2 is releasing so soon afterwards. I’m guessing Feb 11 was always planned as it’s original release date and they just decided to keep it.

While I’m glad that we’ll get to see it sooner, I’m worried that might limit its success. Doesn’t sound like they’ll have any ample time to promote it and hype it up. I guess they’ll be marketing both movies at the same time now.. it’s practically A double feature. It just seems an odd choice to me.

My other theory is that they’re trying to get both out in early 2021 that way they can still label this the “25th anniversary” project. Then they can lay low the rest of the year and have enough time away from it to announce a big 30th anniversary project in 2022.

They should upload the first part on Youtube (for example: "my dream" part, the eclipse and the horse, and the opening theme). We already knew the scenes as they are from SMC3, but it can hype audience. A little update on official site is OK.
This make me remember that in SMC3 period, they even introduced the transformation of Sailor Moon.

They could have at least upload a proper 3 minute story trailer to make the [BLEEP] less stinky! At this point we deserve to know what we are waiting for. At this point I feel this is the only trailer are getting. Because it was so satisfying and will make people who waited 4 and a half year wait another 6 months before the next delay. Sailor Moon Eternal Waiting.
They’re not going to release another trailer after they just delayed the release. It wouldn’t make sense to start promoting the movie so long before the release. People will have forgotten about it by the time the movie comes out. Stop whining, people are dying.

Oh come on the swine flu was was way deadlier, and didn't freeze the entier world. This is a total brainwash. People will die out of hunger and unemployment rather than this flu if they keep on stopping people to live anymore.
I wonder how Naoko is coping with all of this. Not being able to draw new manga, visiting the animation studios and getting personally involved into production of her beloved franchise is probably a real torture for her. I hope the epidemic ends soon so Naoko can get back to work. /s

It'll come out eventually, whether it's January or later. I personally always see release dates as a 'check-in' date honestly, and if it's out on that date cool, and if not no problem I check on the next specified date.

It's a situation no one is happy about, so it's better to all get along and chat the way we were before. I too have lost my job and it's still at the level of where there's just no point in looking quite yet, so I've been using Sailor Moon and this forum to de-stress about it, and I'm sure some others are seeing this place as a refuge too. Let's keep it one :)

It's sad because 2020 was going to be a great year for Sailor Moon fans. Not only because of Sailor Moon Eternal, but I was really looking forward to the musical based on the "Lover of Princess Kaguya" as well as the Prism on Ice show. All of which have been delayed to next year.

Hopefully we can safely look forward to 2021.
