Clean up some images, add new score, remove all openings and title cards, do some editing—you have a movie.

The 10 episodes of Madoka were turned into two movies & TOEI loves cash.
The animation though cannot be presented as movie ehen it comes to movement. Plus the sells for season 3 were quite bad to justify it.

I can see somewhat see why Season III may have sold bad. Look at it. The story is not bad but the style is not very flattering compared to the original Crystal season which at least bothered to fix some of the errors and animation. Toei is still reputable but their priorities are with high cash earners just like any business. Cant really fault them for that. If the demand for quality is high enough and they want a good return investment, they will put a little more into the product but it has to be profitable. It has to be something lots of folks want to see. That and financial reasons, sometimes they have to spread. I havent seen a lot of Toei movies but the ones I have seen have never had terrible animation. However, regardless of animation, if the film has a trash story...then meh. Neo Queen Naoko seems to be watching from the balcony now so we will she what she will and won't allow to be changed around.

Sorry, but I don't feel the designs for S1-S2 are that superior or great. It's not the reason why Season 3 bombed in sales, sorry.

I respect your opinion on the matter. I just finished watching Season 3 from my binge fest and I saw a lot of terrible art and animation that they didn't fix. When I binged it I realized how personally I think S1-2 had a more sophisticated and superior looking style.

Some shots from S3 look tacky or super generic.

and going back to some corrected Crystal S1-2, I see much better-looking characters. They look pretty and the colors are vibrant.

Now I'm not saying S1-2 was perfect and spotless cause it had some bad stuff in it too during my rewatch but the style looked gorgeous at times, even movie-like (especially some scenes in Black moon). From the bows and actual colors...etc.

Season 3 just had some generic washed out style that made some scenes look great in motion but you can see the corners cut all over from the transformations, attacks, and colors...etc.

If I had my choice which I would have wanted the Eternal movie to be based on style-wise, it would be S1-2 with a "Pretty Cure budget" All they needed to fix were the transformations from the Playstation-looking style and get some of their best animators for the action scenes. I'm in the air about the eyes. They look good on the show but real "bug-like" in the art. So maybe the eyes can stay the same as in S1-2 or they can have a Tandano touch to them imo.

I still like them both and enjoyed them for what they offered during my rewatch.

To circle back on the discussion about Part I's runtime, the only other way I can see them keeping the episodic structure of first half of the manga is if Part I adapts the first four acts of the Dream arc and ends at Jupiter Dream, instead of Venus dream as we all assumed.

Part I would still need to make some cuts as Act 39 is double in length, but since 80 minutes is roughly the equivalent of four episodes, it wouldn't be as dire and they could still keep some of the minor characters that appeared in the story.

Tacking on Venus Dream with the second half of Dead Moon arc actually makes some sense because the story essentially becomes one continuous film after Venus infiltrates the Dead Moon Circus. The only issue is that the second film will need to adapt 6 acts, but we don't know what the runtime will be so it's not off the table.
That could make sense, with the first one ending as :usagi:, :chibiusa:, and :mako: look out over Tokyo's now stormy skyline (maybe even include :ami:and :rei:, regardless of whether they're in their Sailor Soldier suits or not, looking up too), giving it a cliffhanger feel.

I actually thought Season III improved upon parts of the story though (switching stuff around like making the Inners/Outers mourn Usagi's "death" and Uranus wanting to protect Usagi before Saturn's appearance, some original footage and I like how they got rid of Uranus pointing out how "Once a Daimon gets a host, the host cannot be saved which would have made everything the Sailors done in the Infinity arc feel all for naught, and that's not good) but they should have ended act 12 when Saturn appeared (I felt cutting it off when Saturn was about to attack threw the pacing of the final battle off), and at least let the Inners fight back against the Witches 5, or hell, do what Un Nouveau Voyage did, when they were the only ones left, have them be the ones who free Hotaru from Mistress 9!

Hm ... I wouldn’t feel surprised if TOEI turned the existing first three seasons of Crystal into movies :mischief:

“Look, we have fixed the animation some more!
New audio with unheard score.
We have also added a few new scenes.
Buy it,
buy it,
buy it now!“

:kero:
The NogiMyu Sera Myu musicals feel more like they would work as movies (the musical numbers would make them feel like a classic Disney film though , or a Disneyfied Sailor Moon:rofl:) with how they're paced and the way they interpreted the story in my opinion (but maybe do the whole Ami x Zoisite thing better than what La Reconquista did) was far superior to how Crystal did the Dark Kingdom arc, even if one prefers Team Moon or Team Star or the 2019 team (which I personally call Team Sun :-P). The way that the newer Sera Myus are done, something about how they did it gives the story and characters a stronger grasp of focus (sans La Reconquista where they shoved poor :ami: to the sidelines there :blue:).

I think it says a lot that the only suggestions anyone seems to have here on how to adapt the Dream arc into an average length anime is how many and which scenes they need to cut... Instead of being able to imagine that the staff in this movie could exercise any sort of creativity?

It just speaks to the poor state of the franchise where there's just no expectation for any sort of new ideas. It's really sad.
This reminded me of that Japanese blog where people not terribly familiar with Sailor Moon were reading the manga for the first time and sharing their speculations/theories about where the story was headed along the way. Some of the suggestions aren't really serious, but they're all pretty interesting nonetheless. So, here are some ideas Eternal could (have) use(d):

- Helios will turn out to be a prince
- The kaleidoscopes will be used as power up items like the Holy Grail, not as weapons
- The light from the kaleidoscopes will make Usagi grow huge and transform into Ultra Sailor Moon
- There's some relation between Mamoru's health issues and Kakeru's health issues in the Princess Kaguya side story
- Mamoru has lung cancer or TB. Usagi will take out a huge life insurance policy on him.
- The pattern will be inverted and this time Chibiusa will power up to protect Usagi
- The Golden Crystal will belong to Sailor Sun, who is Sailor Moon's biggest rival
- Nehellenia is either Beryl reincarnated or her sister
- Pegasus will turn out to be Mamoru's animal companion from his past life and their relationship will be like that of Mario and Yoshi
- Chibiusa will turn into Super Black Lady and only a kiss from Helios will turn her back to normal. (Also Mamoru will be brainwashed again.)
- The Golden Crystal will turn up in Ami's mother's jewelry collection and Ami will turn out to be the princess Helios is looking for
- Ami's remark that her dream is "to be loved, it doesn't matter by whom," means she's bisexual
- The royal families from the other planets are all branches of the Moon royal family (think of the House of Habsburg)
- Helios will be the Amazon Trio's replacement, Pegasus Eye
- Helios will turn out to be the heroine who'll defeat the Dead Moon (I guess they meant in a Tip-was-actually-Ozma type scenario for those familiar with the Oz books?)
- The Amazon Quartet will get killed off one-by-one once the Trio are gone
- Venus's weapon will either be an evolved version of the Love-Me Chain (correct), the Silver Crystal Sword, her microphone from Sailor V, or her crescent compact
- Usagi will die (or be severely wounded), prompting Mamoru to cry. His tears will become the Golden Crystal.
- Hotaru can't become Saturn without all three talismans, so Chibiusa will have to return the Deep Aqua Mirror to Michiru first
- There'll be a "Tuxedo Dream" chapter, an "Amazon Quartet Dream" chapter, and a "Lady Serenity Dream" chapter
- Chibiusa and Helios will start living together in the 20th century in Elysium
- The Moon and Earth were originally one kingdom which is why they're so similar. Serenity and Endymion's love was forbidden due to their close blood ties.
- Nehellenia's true form is the mirror
- Sailor Moon will fight in her Princess Serenity dress since the others are in their Sailor Princess forms
- Artemis is really an androgyne like Uranus. S/he, Luna, and Diana are all Sailor Princesses and Sailor Soldiers.
- The reason Saturn didn't revert to her Sailor Princess form for the coronation is because she's actually from another galaxy
- The next arc will be set in the 30th century. NQS and her team will come into conflict with Chibiusa and the Quartet. A war will break out between them, masterminded by King Endymion who wants more power.

(If only the Crysternal staff were as creative as SM fans are...)

I wonder if they did decide to do a movie based off the musicals. That would be cool actually. We'd have as many films as Pretty Cure with a lot of interesting characters and storyline. I bet it would attract fresh eyes to Sailor Moon and a new wave of popularity because the original fan base would pump up the new movies and characters all over social media.

While it's subjective which art style is better, the quality of animation is objectively better in season 3. It never had episodes as bad as act 13, which consists almost entirely of still images.
I will say it's better but definitely has its fair share of really poorly animated portions, particularly wide shots:

I like the second shot. A few people bring that moment up and say it’s bad but I think they look great there that whole sequence is beautiful. I think the only episodes that are truly questionable in season 3 are ep 10 and especially ep 11. The rest Look great especially 6 7 13.

I think I would vote the transformations in Season 3 as an indication of how limited things were. The biggest culprit being Jupiter and Venus' (and a little of Mars) transformations. Why when they start to spin towards the end of the transformations it looks really bad. Their star wands look huge and clunky. No matter how much I try to make it look okay in my mind, Chronos Typhoon still looks a hot mess. Neptune hair mysteriously grows in Submarine Reflection, her transformation looks kinda choppy when she goes into her signature hair flip.

I will say that Moon Crisis Make-Up looks good. Very much enjoyable how they did it. I think the Tellu episode was done nicely and probably one of my favorites along with the final battle.

However, I still am gonna go with S1-2. Whoever was the animation director on the episode where Pluto dies by stopping did an outstanding job. I watched that episode twice in a row. I love how the Black Moon cast look too. Everyone looks so good.::love:: They just die too quick...lol

I think the Eternal movie will be nice and hopefully smooth. I still think they could use this time to improve some things and they probably will. I think its quite interesting that the second movie would have premiered shortly after the first without the wait. I wonder if they really have been working on the movies all these years? I know it can take a lot of time to create a movie so maybe that's what they've been doing this whole time of silence beforehand?
