I prefer Bunny as it was used in German which was tje version I grew up with. I never liked the Serena. It was stupid to make her name cliser to Serenity, even more stupid in Dic dub where they didn't use Serenity, but Serena instead
Ih my god Luna, who is that princess you are searching for that is called Serena. Of course it cannot be the same Serena yiu are sharing a house with. Anyway I agree Bunny is not perfect but that is what Usagi means anyway and makes the jokes with her name in the show works - like in episide 11. Serena sounds too posh for Usagi.

The DIC dub did call the Princess "Serenity" at times, suggesting that "Serena" was a nickname, perhaps to distinguish her from her same-named mother.

Luna only knew they were looking for a "Moon Princess," not a "Princess Serena." If you have no problem with Japanese!Luna and the rest of the gang not remembering that that Moon Princess looked exactly like Usagi, or realizing that Usagi Tsukino a.k.a. Sailor Moon might be the "Tsuki no Purinsessu / Moon Princess," criticizing DIC!Luna for not recognizing Serena as Princess Serena (which, again, is a nonissue) is hypocritical.

Serena, its the perfect name for a rebirthed Serenity. Though I wouldnt mind if they used both, Bunny for a nickname that say Amy calls her and Serena for Rei would call her.

I never heard them using Princess Serenity in the Dic dub, or if they did it was inconsistent. I remember they were Princess Serena and Prince Darien and always found it lame they have the exact same names, despite being reborn millenia later. I always found it as yet another attempt to make it suitable for 3 year-old so they won't be confused.

I like Serena better.

Bunny is hard for me to take seriously as a name, though I could tolerate it as a nickname.

Despite being reincarnated (not reborn) millennia later, they also all just happened to end up with last names that include the kanji for their respective home planet (with the exception of Minako, whose last name instead includes the kanji for something associated with her home planet's namesake). Despite being reincarnated millennia later, they all also just happened to end up in the same city at the same time. Despite living in a completely different era, in a completely different society, they all just happened to have the exact same hairstyles they had in their former lives. Despite all being otherwise regular people, they seem to almost always ever dress in their respective image colors (especially true of the musicals and Crystal).

It's fine if you prefer "Serenity and Endymion" to "Princess Serena and Prince Darien." I do too. But don't act like it's some "lame" "attempt to make [the show] suitable for 3 year-olds so they won't be confused" when the original is loaded with as many lame coincidences to make things as easy to follow as possible.

Still this is the only dub that have these two be named exactly the same. I might be wrong. I am not against using English names, it was common at the time. I just don't like them having the same names again.Being reborn at the same time o. The same place can be part of the magic of the Crystal. The names are simply something I dont like as they were always different in every dub I have seen. I guess people really cherish thes old dubs so I will stop criticize. Still Bunny as long as we take the translation alone makes more sense. I agree it doesnt sound nice as name, they could have used it as Nick name to keep all the rabbit references intact. It started in France as far as I know and people do not connect it with strippers there.

I prefer "Serena" for several reasons.
  1. It's closer to Selene/Selena, the moon goddess.
  2. It's closer to Serenity, her mother's name and princess name.
  3. With the perfect last name that begins with M (Mariner), she would share the same initials as her alter ego, Sailor Moon.
  4. It's an actual, semi-common name North America.
  5. With three syllables, it does match "Usagi" in lip flaps, even though the original anime didn't care for lip-flaps either
  6. As a poster who is no longer on the forum once mentioned...there is a stealth Betwitched reference with her name. "Serena" is "Samantha's" lookalike cousin in that show...as Samantha who is married to Darrin. Given that Shingo is named Sammy in this version, and given Bewitched's role in the inspiration of the magical girl genre -- it's either a very lucky co-incidence or a very well-researched choice. Given that her proto-name or placeholder name was Victoria, I am inclined to believe it is the latter.
"Bunny"...is just a translation, and a problematic one at that. Bunny actually used to be a nickname many decades a girl. My parents know someone they call "Bunny"...although I'm not sure if it is her given name or not.

"Bonnie" would have been a better choice if you wanted to go with the "rabbit" theme, but aside from Sailor Moon's hair (which flops around so much that the whole visual aspect of her hair being "ears" is lost) and a brief few jokes, the bunny aspect is lost. Then you'd have to dub Mamoru as "Clyde."

Just my two cents.
