'SM' BGM on 'War of the Worlds'

I just came back from watching Spielberg's new 'War of the Worlds' movie and, during the credits at the very end of the movie, a musical credit is given for 'SAILOR MOON BGM by ARISAWA TAKANORI.'

I missed the actual music piece during the movie but my guess is that it's in one of two scenes early in the film when Tom Cruise's two kids (the grown teen and the little girl played by Dakota Fanning) are flipping through the channels of their respective TV sets (I'm guessing though). The actual music piece can't be more than a second long because otherwise I would have heard it. So, when/if you go see 'War of the Worlds' this weekend, keep an ear out for a nanosecond or more of 'Sailor Moon BGM' because, according to the movie's credits, it's in there somewhere. Later!

Both! I'm conflicted about it myself because I'm usually amused by end-of-the-world spectacles ('Independence Day,' 'The Day After Tomorrow,' 'Armageddon,' etc.) but this one plays it so straight and at times it's so violent and realistic that it borders on depressing. How the hell Paramount got a 'PG-13' rating for this is beyond me because I've seen 'R' rated horror flicks with much less gore and violence than this flick (even if most of it is implied and off-screen).

Uh, you guys do know this is based on the HG Wells (note: possible spoiler) novel of the same name right? Except is set now and in the US and not in a Victorian imagining of late 20th Century England.

Besides Cruise isn't directing and this has nothing to do with Ron. L. Hubbard.

I saw the movie last night. It was great! It was one of the few movies to actually terrify me. I couldn't get to sleep last night until my boyfriend called. The ring scared me, needless to say, but I felt better later.

Okay, the music used during the movie from Sailor Moon is during the flipping through channels scene -- the second one, that is. The first time Robbie and Rachel are in their room in their dad's place. The second time is after Ray wakes up and Robbie is gone with his car. Rachel is flipping through channels again and stays on a station with Sailor Moon on it. It is a clip of the end of the third Supers episode's dub. I don't remember if they show the scene, but I remember which one it was. It was just as Sailor Moon was finishing her "Moon Gorgeous Meditation" and the remless was saying, "A-one, a-two, a-" channel change. The music is obviously the Moon Gorgeous Meditation theme and applying sound effects.

I was just going to post that that family's TV set must be the only TV set in the USA that can STILL get the Sailor Moon anime!
A lot of people forget that "War Of The Worlds" was previously produced in 1953 as a theatrical release and won the "Best Special Effects" Oscar that year for George Pal's work in that field!
The star of that film, Gene Barry, has a small part in this updated version. I think he plays Tom Cruise's father!

Actually Gene plays Tom Cruise's ex-wife's father (aka Tom's former father-in-law). He's the old man on the door at the very end of the film; the older woman (aka Tom's former mother-in-law) is Ann Robison, also a co-star in the original '53 production of 'War of the Worlds.'

I don't think this has anything to do with a broadcasting license, it's just a brief clip in a movie which they gave due credit for.

I saw the movie last night with my friend. We both immediately recognized the music and started yelling OH MA GOD ITZ SAILOR MOOOON.

Sailor Moon back on TV? Screw the aliens, that's just as good of a warning that the end is near.

It was so short, it finished before I even realized that it was Sailor Moon music, the annoying part of the music that goes "da da da da" again and again during the stage out I think it was. Too bad they didn't show it. I think they showed Spongebob though.

Wow! This is really neat! However... since I went with my bf last week to watch Batman, he's coming with me this week to watch Bewitched. Maybe we'll do this movie next week! But how exciting!!

Yeah, and my friend's boyfriend who didn't like it either but thought Mr. And Mrs. Smith was cool.

Anyway, I actually wasn't paying attention and I missed the BGM. Oh well, I'll probably end up seeing it again anyway.

Seeing the movie made me want to find my tape of the radio broadcast.
