I hope so for all the fans, but I highly doubt it, unless they totally change the video for the English release. I believe they will simply add subtitles and audio stream to an existing video stream and remove geo restriction. But I hope Latin fans are vocal and make Netflix replace the terrible ONA version.

They didn’t dub SMC into Spanish and Portuguese?

As discussed many times, getting a faithful dub of the 90’s anime has been very challenging, but I assumed that SMC had been dubbed into Spanish and Portuguese.

It was dubbed into Latin Spanish like 4 years ago, but the Brazilian Portuguese dub is apparently being produced now that Netflix bought it.
Anyway, Netflix Brazil also confirmed the 90s movies are also coming to the service, apparently also being dubbed into Portuguese by the first time. They also announced the S season of the 90s anime.
Probably because Toei lost the Brazilian Portuguese dubbed versions of Classic and R and decided to start with the crappy, oops, I mean, classic dub of S. Just like they did with that flopped DVD release a decade ago. Everyone is p*ssed at that. :wtf:

I'm pretty curious on how Crystal was received by Latin American fans when it aired there.

I'm pretty sure that the old LatAm dub was actually mostly accurate and they pretty much didn't censor anything - which is one of the reasons why it got taken off the air a few years after it finished airing. A particular celebrity in Mexico essentially lobbied for SM to be effectively banned for many years using her political connections, after doing a PR campaign back on TV against the medium in general.

Don't ask me how I know this, by the way.

Ratings blast in Mexico, like the Italian airing.
Concerning political agendas, Italy only aired Stars twice until the 2010 international revival, because a famous female psychologist associated with a conservative party who targeted SM and its "prejudicial effects on boys" became particularly vocal when the Starlights showed up.

Say what you will about these countries, but their taste remains top tier - at least in some of these regards.
And I don't even like Crystal.

Do you know which Mexican celebrity went on lobbying?

Sailor Moon S is coming to Netflix Latin America/Brazil on May 18.
The reason for starting with S? Toei lost the Brazilian dub for Classic and R long ago and even our Spanish-speaking brothers are paying the price on this release
i wonder what will the video quality be, toei's upscales?

^To the surprise of no one.

Netflix had the original Saint Seiya for 2-3 years and they used the same upscale as on the 2014 Blu-ray Boxes which also looked bad.

Then there's also the 2012 Special Edition versions of One Piece 1-206 but then Toei has been giving that to everyone who's streaming the show the past few years (Crunchyroll in 2015, Netflix & Pluto TV in 2020, Tubi TV in 2021). With Funimation's site about to be gone, Crunchyroll will be the only place to have the 4:3 versions (since 2014) and streaming together with the Special Editions.

Can you share a screenshot?
you know what, it looks kinda bad lmao
Spoiler: show

ending is creditless but with hard subtitles (same for the episode name) and there is only spanish latam option (no other language)
also since we neved had dubs for the others endings (as far as I know) they left Heart Moving in spanish instead of Otome no Policy (idk why are they using that ed tho??) lol

This was a remaster done by Dubbing House studios, the same studio who dubbed Sailor Moon Crystal for LATAM (and who didn’t pay the actresses on time).
Around the same time TOEI commissioned them to place the Spanish track on the HD remaster they produced, as well as clean the audio and translate the credits and episode titles to Spanish.

Nevertheless, they Went cheap about it and re-rendered just season 1 episode cards which are re-used here and they reused the 1st ending they got which was Otome no Policy for episodes 1-2.

It’s strange because the same remaster has both endings with hard subtitles (idk R as the endings were never broadcasted by TV Azteca)
