If the new musicals now become over commercialized and run by J-idols for the rest of the decade instead of the professionals at Takarazuka, I would consider that to be a major downgrade in quality and a major disappointment to me as someone who has enjoyed the new musicals greatly.

Not sure about the various groups under AKS, but SNH48 are actually producing & performing their own original musicals at present, & their current one features a serious story set in 20s/30s Shanghai - maybe AKS would like to go that path too, & were having the Sailor Moon musicals as a starter? lol

I just tried to watch some of this group's music videos on YouTube to try and get a feel for them but I wasn't that impressed from what I saw. They just sounded kind of generic and samey to me. But other than some anime idols like Love Live, I'm not that into the J-idol scene in general.

The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon franchise's 25th anniversary project site announced today on January 25 that 32-member Japanese girl idol group Nogizaka46 will star in a new musical adaptation sometime this year. Select members will portray as the main pretty guardians in the show (the cast have not yet been confirmed).

Second, the previously-reported new performance show "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Super Live" will be directed/choreographed by Japanese dance artist TAKAHIRO, who served as choreographer for all songs of Keyakizaka46. The show combining elements of songs, dance, and visual gimmicks is scheduled to be performed in Japonismes 2018. It is a series of cultural events to be held in France, mainly in Paris, from July 2018 to February 2019 to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Japan-France diplomatic relations.

Finally, another new musical show based on the franchise is set to be revealed in the summer of 2019. It is expected be a "power-up version" of the recent musical shows. After the eight years hiatus, the musical was newly launched with all-female new cast members in 2013, and produced five shows.

1. "-La Reconquista-" (September 13-23, 2013)
2. "-Petite Étrangère-" (August 21-September 7, 2014)
3. "-Un Nouveau Voyage-" (September 18-October 4, 2015)
4. "-Amour Eternal-" (October 15, 2016-March 11, 2017)
5. "-Le Mouvement Final-" (September 8-October 1, 2017)

I still feel like I'm completely confused about what's going on with Seramyu. Is this a brand new full musical? Is this just going to be like a dance show like Anime Matsuri? Are the idol group playing the Sailor Guardians or is it a collaboration? What exactly does a "power up" musical mean? There seems to be about a dozen interpretation of this latest news and I have no idea what's being planned.

I think we can agree the facts are -

1) Nelke Planning is no longer involved with the musicals - the fact they have deleted their mailing subscriber list more or less proves this

2) There is a production this summer involving Nogizaka 46 - they list it as a "musical" but what it really is remains to be seen - I'm guessing a recycle of Petite Etranger I maybe wrong.

3) There is a "stage" show that will tour the world produced by the Nogizaka 46 producer - I'm thinking maybe something like the Kirari Super Live when PGSM was airing?

4) There is a new musical in 2019 with what it would appear to be a new production staff whether previous actresses are retained remains to be seen.

I don't think we can speculate further at this point till there are more announcements.

Some bit of inaccuracies, according to this (the relevant part bolded by me):

Keyakizaka46 is a sister group of Nogizaka46 anyway, & like the latter, relatively older group, is also rapidly rising in popularity these days. :)

Well I guess we can be glad that some part of Sailor Moon remains strong.
And w/ further promotion by current immensely popular idol groups, whether you like them or not. :)

^ Same. I like both Marses as well. But I think Star Moon, Jupiter, and Mercury look better.

I've seen some people complain about the costumes but I actually like them more than the ones from the recent musicals (weird bows aside). I mean, I wouldn't have made the skirts so sparkly, but that doesn't bother me. /shrug

Yeah, it's still a little early. The DVD/BD for the Nogizaka46 musical just came out, and they still have the US performances of the Super Live to do this week. I'd imagine they want to finish up with that project before releasing information about this next musical. Like mrploddy said, if we don't hear something by May, then it might be time to start worrying.
