This is too bad. :( So the chances of this happening might be as good as the show getting a proper Blu Ray... If the masters as lost :( I feel stupid for not downloading them while they were way more accessible.
Google translated speculations about the Spanish CWi masters I found on Doblaje Wiki (Dubbing Wiki):
"Currently, the Chilean channel ETC has the original digitized masters of series dubbed by Intertrack, Audiomaster 3000 and other dubbing studios previously acquired by it and distributed by Cloverway for Latin America. However, these do not have their licenses updated and some of them are damaged or deteriorated over time (depending on the date of their digitization). It is assumed that the Mexican company Televisa also has the same most preserved masters. It is also rumored that Ecuavisa also has some of these preserved."

However, it is known that the staff at Toei had access to the DiC dub back in the nineties, and even put fragments of it in a short "multi-language" bonus in one of the LaserDisc memorials. But knowing this company and for how long SM was in licensing limbo, I really doubt they still have it in good condition.

Ive been remastering the first episode of the DiC dub with the Toei Blu-ray upscales and I think it looks pretty good, but would need a big team to help with a lot of the digital alterations to the footage of we were to keep going. I just have the mutli-tiara's to remaster now in episode 1.

I guess at this point, I can't muster up the energy to care. The official license holders have let the show go to rot, and while it's good that there's finally some respect for the dub as a work in of itself, there is absolutely no hope.

This support was needed years ago, not now. Trying to lobby for the old dub now is a complete lost cause. The only way to have gotten the old dub back would have been to make it the only accepted dub. Some of the materials might have been preserved in that case. It might not have been, but they definitely wouldn't be after a new dub.

Right now, I would be happy if Toei/Viz simply took its meat hooks out of the Moon Animate collab and allowed it to be shown publicly. That showed the power of the DiC dub more than the actual episodes themselves.

That might not matter. I can't find the interview, but several years ago someone from Toon Makers said they still had a copy of the pilot in their vault as part of their production reel; it just wasn't available to the general public. There's also a slim possibility the Library of Congress could have a copy on file. Of course, if Toei has lost their copy, are they likely to go to any trouble trying to track down other copies? I think we know the answer to that question :(

Is that the same person who thought they had it from this article?

It wasn't Frank Ward. I want to say it was Rocky Solotoff himself, but I could be mistaken.

ETA: Maybe it was this interview with Rocky, and I just misremembered this quote:

The feeling that the anime clip that your looking at if it's two minutes long might have been in our production reel to show them what we've done. So, that's where it may have come from. Because, hell, like any company looking for work, we send those little hummers out like popcorn. But, the actual pilot that was done belongs to Renaissance Atlantic and Bandai and that's probably why that's never been released. I think there was a guy on set and I forget where he came from, I don't know what company he was connected to, but he actually did a video of the ‘Making of' while we where producing this. And I've had people that have given us a call regarding well if there is a making of there must be an of... you see the ‘of' [laughs]. And you know, it's one of those things where Toon Makers is an animation studio that's basically work for heir and when we do work for people, once we turn it over, we're done with it.
So Toon Makers might still have copies of the music video, but Bandai and Renaissance Atlantic would have the actual pilot, and chances are they would have lost or trashed it long ago :/

I suppose there lies the problem, they couldn't coexist. People like me really wanted an uncut dub. I wanted to watch the show in English and have unedited footage and have every episode and I'm really happy with the Viz dub and wouldn't want to trade it.

But at the same time I don't like that it has to be at the expense of the old dub. It's sad that it just doesn't work for both of them to be an option. That would be the best scenario. Everyone would win in that situation.

Honestly if they released both I probably would've picked them both up. Two different experiences with the same show would be super fun.

Exactly how I feel.

I doubt people care about it as much as the DiC one for Classic and R -at least I want to own this one. The cloverway one is easy to pirate and I cannot really stand Linda...
The visually uncut dub is readily easy to pirate yes. But the tv edited version that has the scene transitions, custom title cards, dub specific OP animation, dub episode titles, to be continued slapped on Birthday Blues part 1 and Destiny’s Arrival are impossible to find.

LOL I just began the first episode of S and Griffin's extreme overacting and speaking with her voice on the top of her head in the nightmare scene makes the Viz season 1 dub sound like paradise. It's like she was recorded while rehearsing.

well didn't they? I remember them saying something like the voice actors only getting two takes of any line before moving forward

The complete edited version of the S dub can be had on the edited VHS tapes, which are pretty inexpensive to find. Only select episodes of the edited SuperS dub were released to home video though.

And yeah, the dub is atrocious. Even good actors that turned in decent performances during the DiC run sounded awful in S/SuperS. The only performances that I remember still being any good were Stephanie Beard, Susan Roman, and Emilie-Claire Barlow.

Admittedly I have a bit of soft spot for the Cwi S dub that run was during the height of my young Moonie-ness and it was exciting watching each episode thinking “is this going to be one of the pure crystal treasure heart holders?” (granted it should have been incredibly obvious it was never going to be a character of the day but I was 8...)

From what I recall the first half is practically unwatchable but it gets a bit better around the Eugeal episodes.
