I think J-pop began to go downhill after the turn of the century or the early 00s. The 80s & 90s were its heydays. :)
That's pretty early, right after city pop, yeah. The thread makes it sounds like it's just been happening a few years ago lol.

I meant it began to go downhill around that time - it's a slow & continuing process. AKB48 could be seen as a symptom of the downfall, & the group was founded way back in '05.

I'm still surprised you think it was that early. What about Hare Hare and all that stuff? I know Girl's Generation or whatnot (very bad with the names) came out for KPOP around that time.

I'm no expert of K-pop, but it kicked off much earlier - that's also a slow & continuing process. Girls' Generation was founded in '07, but there'd already been numerous K-pop artists & groups before that. :)

Oh wow I got it right.

Thing with KPOP is it was distinctly more uncertain about itself in the '90s. Many male new jack swingers and rappers and the ladies were on the TLC tip from the later videos I saw. So that didn't even seem poised to be in the same lane as KPOP, which I know is your point......but I wonder how they intersected to become competitors compared against each other.

It's also a long, gradual process - maybe BoA, a Korean who's both a J-pop & K-pop artist, is a pivotal point in this process? :)
Well you also mentioned AKB. Was that over that one girl's dating issues?

There've been many scandals regarding AKB48 & its sister groups over the years, but those aren't the deciding factors for the downfall of J-pop - there've always been scandals related to artists anywhere, anytime, whether they're AKB48 or not. lol

Hm... Okay, so if it was a symptom, are the girl groups the problem? What's the downfall entail exactly?

They can be more prone to scandals due to their no-dating rule, since even just a date constitutes a scandal, unlike other type of artists, who can date & even get married - as long as it's not an extra-marital affair.

It's more about musical creativeness & vocal skills, but even as far as J-idol groups are concerned, they're also outrun by their Korean counterparts on the international stage nowadays. lol

JPOP sounds more creative to me, but I guess that's just me. Though I wouldn't doubt the others sing better.

Chinese translation?
Sorry, but I don't have the time ^_^' - you may use a machine translator, tho.

Also, I thought having blonde hair was considered a bad thing in Japan?
Other than that it's generally banned in schools & school girls having that can be seen as delinquents, I don't think so. But I'm not a Japanese & can't really say about that.

Are there groups based on being delinquents?

A former group ace of SNH48, now a solo artist of SNHG, selling lipsticks as the cosmetics brand's spokesperson:
Ah, so it's like Wu-Tang, they form groups to get into solo stuff. Pretty clever.

Yeah, such as this one: Kishidan - Wikipedia. Members of AKB48 & its sister groups have also posed as delinquents in Majisuka Gakuen.

Not familiar w/ them, but outstanding members graduated from the SNHG groups can stay under the same artist management company as a solo artist w/ her own exclusive office & dedicated team of supporting staff. :)

The grand opening of a museum of the SNHG groups at the home city of GNZ48 yesterday, officiated by several top members of that group:

Seems hypocritical to be alright with this but have so many scandals over nothing......maybe people want delinquent virgins?

Oh, I see what you're saying. They're with the same record and the SNHG opportunity is a step towards independence. Btw, I did try Hamasaki Ayumi, Koda Kumi, Kuraki Mai, and Ayaka. They weren't my style, though they didn't sing exceptionally poorly. I think Ayaka had the best voice among the JPOP women.
