The Families of the Outers

We receive no info at all about the families of Haruka and Michiru. It's not a stretch to imagine that they are only children, but even that is a guess. It's easy to assume they are from wealthy backgrounds, but they became famous early in life and could have gained money that way. In the manga/Crystal they have a mysterious benefactor who pays for their apartments but even that is frustratingly not expanded upon. We know so very little about family, friends, lifestyle, anything at all before the story introduces them

I suppose the same could be said for Setsuna. The original anime was always a bit vague on her rebirths and all that but in the manga/Crystal, she is implied to have grown up in Japan before gaining her memories and powers while in college. She might as well have dropped out of the time stream for all we know of her past in this life.

What are your thoughts? Do you have any theories?

I think the manga low-key implies that they were all literally transmigrated into the current era rather than actually reborn.

Hotaru seems to be the only one out of the four who underwent reincarnation in a traditional sense.

90’s anime is another story (Hah!) and there we can safely assume Haruka & Michiru were reincarnated normally before awakening, we don’t get any background on their family lives, because we don’t get background on the families of the Senshi in general in the 90’s anime, with the exceptions being Rei’s grandpa and a bit on Ami’s parents.

I guess I'd never considered the "transmigrated into the current era" thing. I don't know how I feel about it lol. However, they seemed to be really well established in this world...racing, music career, going to college, and all that. It just seems like there's a past there that could be fun to speculate on.
