What do you think of the old dub casting the Cloverway Usagi or should I say Serena as the villain. Creative casting, almost as much as the Japanese cast of the R Movie casting Ali and An as the villains.

zttmoon is referring to how Linda Ballantyne voiced Princess Snow Kaguya and how Joel Feeney voiced both Ail and Fiore. They wanted opinions on the former.

You mean DIC dub Ali also voiced Fliore in the movies. So when it came to that, DIC was more true to the Japanese than VIZ was. Though they didn't get An's voice to Xenian did they?

Anyway, I miraculously got to properly see Ami’s First Love/SuperS movie in theaters today, and it was a cool and fun experience despite the latter film being mediocre. AFL also wasn’t much to write home about, but it was an amusing little short. It was cool to see these in the theater in the order they were originally screened. The dubs were very solid for both, and I really am enjoying Kate Higgins as Ami now. She sounded very funny, innocent, and engaging in the AFI short. In the movie, Colleen O’Shaughnessey was pretty good as Perle, if a bit raspy for my taste. I was not expecting Tara Sands to sound as deep as she did as Badiyanu (they pronounced her name “Baud-ee-yan” BTW). She wasn’t much different from Kirsten Bishop, and sounded very much like any other deep-voiced Sailor Moon villainess. There was one line that really got audiences laughing. It was when Neptune said to Uranus something like “If kids don’t grow up, they won’t experience the pleasures of adulthood. Isn’t that right, Uranus?” The film itself still isn’t very good because it doesn’t quite have the emotional stakes as the other two, but it’s still a fun little film for fans. The production design and animation looked gorgeous, especially on the big screen.

The sound mixing drowned out the dialogue a bit though. The music was too loud. You could still hear every word, but it was just a bit annoying. This includes the vocal songs. The vocals were a bit lost in the music.

Also, they showed a preview for the SuperS boxset before the films, and wow, if you think this remaster looks bad on TV, it looks just godawful on the big screen (of course, the films themselves look gorgeous). The Crystal footage looked alright. This was on a much bigger screen than the R/S films here.

I saw the movie, it was great, had a great time. Only complaint was there was no sound in the first minute of Ami's First Love and they never just started the movie over.

Was anyone else’s SuperS screening projected at 2.35:1 instead of 1.85? Mine had black borders on the top and bottom and faces were cropped out of the frame sooooo many times

This is an ongoing myth. Linda Ballantyne did NOT play Snow Kaguya in the old dub.

Also untrue about Fiore/Xenian

No the last one is true, at least when it comes to the Japanese version. I am kind of disappointed VIZ didn't pick up on that, and try to get the voice actros they cast for Ali and An to comeback for the R movie.

Went to see the dub for AFL and the SuperS movie today. No complaints from me, aside from not having any sound at first; but they rewound back to the beginning. As far as the movie itself goes... Subjectively the SuperS movie is probably the worst out of the three in that there's not really much in the way of substance as far as plot and emotional stakes go, but it's my personal favorite because I think it's the most fun; there's a lot of action and it partakes much more in the goofy hi-jinks that the show usually has than the other two movies did.

Good. Glad they got that right.

Odd. Twas the other way around for the TV show's dub.

Linda has said she never got to voice a villain and she only joined the dub to replace Terri. I'm not sure where/when the notion she voiced Kaguya started, but I'm pretty sure it's false.
There are so many false rumors about the English voice cast, it's frustrating. Wikimoon and Wikipedia don't help. Also, Princess Snow Kaguya sounds nothing like Linda. I don't get why anyone would make that mixup. I still think she sounds a lot like Catherine Disher, but she went on record to say she didn't voice her. It's possible she could've just forgotten. Who knows?

Thank you! Everyone keeps on crediting some random actor for playing Fiore, but it's clearly Steven. He did a lot of background voices throughout the entire English dub, but his voice is fairly distinct.

I'm seeing the SuperS movie tonight. I'm really hoping it goes well. Every Sailor Moon movie screening I've been to has had issues. Dub being played by accident, sound not working, etc. My friend said they mistakenly played the SS movie instead of S last week. They eventually put on the S movie, but then had the nerve to cut it off early (right when Luna turns human).

Yikes, I wonder what's going on with all these screenings having problems? It's like there's a curse on these movies or something

When I modded for BehindTheVoiceActors.com, I think Catherine Disher's manager specifically contacted us just to tell us that she voiced the Snow Dancers, but not Princess Kaguya herself in the 2000 dub of the S film. If it's not her or Linda, I have no idea who it could have been. Isn't it true that the voices for the Kisenian Blossom, Mistress 9, and Queen Nehellenia are also unknown? I know Susan Aceron has been credited for the former two and Lisa DalBello for the latter, but I'm not sure how true those are (I believe Susan did confirm at some point before her passing that her only role was Sailor Pluto in the S season). I think Deborah Drakeford voiced Mistress 9.

Oh my God, I knew all this time your username looked familiar! I don't think I ever made an actual account there, but I did float around from time to time. It's... weird that they'd admit to her voicing the Snow Dancers but not Princess Snow Kaguya. I was watching the final battle last night, and it still sounds a lot like her. Especially the scream. She did some minor voices in S too - Elizabeth and Tamasaburou.

Yeah, their voices are all unknown. Susan Aceron definitely only voiced Pluto. She's confirmed it with me, and with Corey Tsukino. Nehelenia doesn't sound anything like Lisa, and she only did voice work on Sailor Moon as a favor for Roland Parliament. She didn't do anything for Sailor Moon outside of the initial 65 episodes. I've heard Deborah in a few things, and I don't think she could be Mistress 9.

Unfortunately, a lot of the English actors didn't typically do voice acting, so it's kind of hard to figure out who's who. I discovered a few actors by watching other Optimum Production projects, or Canadian series. I found out Sara Sahr voiced Petirol, and Rita (in SS). Damon D'Oliveira did a lot of additional voices in the whole dub, namely Chad in S, and Oranjet (is that his name?) in the SuperS movie. Naomi Emmerson was Cyprine.

I went to see the SuperS movie last night and they accidentally played the R movie. I went out to tell someone and they kept insisting that it was R & S not SuperS when the ticket said SuperS and the poster for the theater was SuperS. After it was done they didn't even play S or SuperS and everyone in the theater got a free movie ticket. I really wanted to see SuperS :dead:
