Re: The Sailor Moon Musical Thread

Unfortunately we discontinued our "public" torrent sharing service in June because people were abusing our public announce system. (http://missdream.reisei-sa.net/forum/vi ... =19&t=6070)

I suppose we could add it to our tracker ourselves, but I've been more or less using that only to distribute our own releases. At this point it's free game and could be hosted anywhere, I would suggest putting it up on thepiratebay because at least then it won't get deleted because of something happening to the uploader / wank / Youtube suspension / whatever.

Re: The Sailor Moon Musical Thread

I'm glad someone started a thread for this. I absolutely adore Sera Myu!

As for favorite Moons, I thought each Moon brought something good to the table, but overall my favorite was Miyuki. Yes, I know her voice was nasally on the high notes, but her energy and acting was quite infectious so she made an absolutely adorable Moon.

Favorite musical-wise, it's a tie between Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban, Yume Senshi...Saturn Fukkatsu Hen, and Last Dracul Jokyoku. All three had great casts and songs.

Also, I don't know if it's still up or not, but I'm pretty there's a lot of direct downloads from both the series, PGSM, as well as the musicals on sailormoonfansubs.net (or maybe ".com"?)

I love Sailor Moon Fansubs <3 I wasn't going to put links in the first post to avoid breaking rules, but there doesn't seem to be a problem with it so I might put in a links section.
Links are fair game as far as I know. Go for it.

Added a links list! If you have anything to add let me know. Also, if anyone knows where one can find information about Ninja Yell (the musicals that Ono Hikari directed after leaving the Myu), let me know because I want to add it and I seriously can't find anything other than some terrible quality youtube clips.

Go to SeraMyu Antics, go on the forum, and then into Downloads+Media. You'll find both Ninja Yell musicals for download. =D

I love the musicals. They might just be my favourite incarnation of Sailor Moon. There's so many good actors and singers. I'm gonna have to say Eien Densetsu Senshuuraku is my favourite. First stage Starlights are amazing and perfect in every way, Anza and Yuuta are my favourite Moon + Tux combo, and Galaxia's a bad ass.

My second fave would be the Black Lady ones. Hikari!Dimande is SO SEXY AND AMAZING. And Mao as Black Lady is the most bad ass thing to happen to the Black Moon clan (it's just too bad she didn't have too much screen time). Love it!

Hikari Ono is my favouritestest.

eternal.legend- An extremely useful database with almost all the information you'll ever need about the musicals and the people involved with them.
Somehow I can't agee that it has all (or any) information I'll ever need. Here is what, for instance, it has to say about the very first musical: http://sera-myu.com/01.php

The very first musical, this is a retelling of the first storyline arc of the anime and manga in which the senshi battle Queen Beryl and the Dark Kingdom.
How awesome and informative is that?

Compare to what Wikimoon has to say on the same matter: http://wikimoon.org/index.php?title=Sai ... kkatsu_Hen

Almost all SeraMyu related websites take the same odd approach to informing other fans what the whole musical thing is about - they pour on you tons of useless and insignificant information, like what the name of that guy who was pulling ropes to raise curtains was and when he married and what car he drives, but somehow forget to provide any info on the musical themselves. I think the fact there are no good websites with detailed info (by detailed info I don't mean bio of the guy raising curtains) on the musicals (apart from Wikimoon) is one of reasons why they are so rarely discussed on forums, unlike anime and manga versions.

Well, I can talk about this based on the perspective of someone who translates the "source material" for information -about- the Myus, not just the Myus themselves. The pamphlets and guides and all that good stuff that we would traditionally consider to be first-hand sources for Myu-information often leave information about the actual musical altogether out. For example, take the S Super Henshin pamphlet. It goes on and on about the production staff and notes from Toei and whatever, and all the blurbs you get from the actresses are either like "Oh I'm new here, wish me the best!" or "I hope I can continue to do a good job playing ______". So if you're trying to glean information about what actually happened in the S henshin musical outside of that, it's pretty well impossible since you don't have the musical itself to work from and what materials DO exist on the topic are pretty...off-topic.

Of course, most musicals do have the source musical for webmasters to view and comment on, but my reasoning as to why no one writes complete guides about them like Wikimoon is because a) people can simply watch for themselves what goes on, b) they feel like they are just writing a summary and c) truth be told, hardly anyone ever really reacts to big long essays. I think the internet has a case of the TL;DR syndrome.

That being said, I find both Wikimoon and Sera-Myu.com and Antics EXTREMELY useful, especially in terms of translation. It's a heck of a lot easier to look up a Japanese person's romanized name (which are notoriously hard to decipher) on sera-myu.com, for example, than it is to spend hours trying to figure it out on my own. If I'm looking to compile a complete list of all the performances of a complete song, Antics is pretty helpful for that. And Wikimoon is great if you're looking for overall summaries of the musicals and cast names and so on, but my only gripe is that it isn't more detailed. I really wish I had more time or a friend to go back after I've translated some musicals and fill in some more in-depth information about the villains / side characters from the Myu as those articles tend to be woefully short. I think out of all the sites, Wikimoon has the most potential to be the most complete, but fans don't seem to use the resource as much as they should.

Neo Moonlight- Well, now I feel silly xD This is what I get for not checking the forum. Hooray, Hikari-ness!

Katface- I love Eien Densetsu <333 That Galaxia was so deliciously evil.

As for favorite pairings, mine are Fumina/Amano and Marina/Kenji and Ado/Miki.

Maraviollantes- That all depends on the person, I suppose. I personally don't mind a concise summary for a musical because I can just as easily watch it for myself- and even the more comprehensive musical summaries I've read don't come anywhere close to doing the productions justice anyway. On the other hand, I think all of the people involved in a theatrical production are important and deserving of credit (you'd be surprised at what it takes to work rigging), especially with all the work involved in a musical on any scale. Anyway, eternal.legend is more for technical information like names and dates and places anyway, so I'll just edit that entry on the list. And I totally forgot about wikimoon, so I'll make sure to add that too!

Ironically I've never watched an entire musical before, just some clips on Youtube now and then, though I listen to the soundtracks all the time! ^_^'

Actually this thread is already inspiring me to watch them though. :D

Perhaps you can host it at Miss Dream for everybody else, then? I have it saved on my PC.
Maraviollantes, could you please upload Messy Cookie's 1996 Sailor Stars musical since you have it saved? Thanks!
