"Groundbreaking..." "Uncut for the first time..." Viz loves to throw around buzz phrases with zero regard for whether or not they actually apply. I look forward to their release of the Academy Award nominated second half of the season
Viz: Sailor Moon the series uncut for the first time!

Uhh Classic was released uncut back in 2003? S and SuperS had a bilingual uncut release since 2001? I guess R was missing an episode so there’s that

Viz: No, no they were missing the next episode previews. It’s a big difference you see?

Viz: R, S, and SuperS the movies uncut Japanese and English for the first time!

Umm Pioneer did that a long ass time ago?

Viz: Yeah but uhh they didn’t have the shorts included with the R and SuperS movies plus they downplayed the gay in the R movie and we played it up in our dub haha :)

Yeaaah what about the S movie? That was released uncut in English and Japanese. Didn’t have any dialog censorship or missing shorts...

Viz: Uncut. For. The. First. Time :)

Hey look Viz you can claim first to releasing Sailor Stars to the US. Plus this would be the first English dub

Viz: Groundbreaking season!!

I think Viz could take the Latin Spanish/Brazilian Portuguese dub route with the Starlights: male voice actors for their male counterparts and female voices for their female counterparts. Most foreign dubs that used one voice actor/actress for both forms didn't sound believable.
It would make sense since tech they are different genders which would also have a different voice. If I turned into a female, I doubt my voice would be the same haha

They say it, they claim it is with technicalities, it's done, sooo "build a bridge and get over it"

Except Viz has never qualified their spurious claims about their releasing the series "uncut for the first time ever," it's just fans trying to find tenuous justifications for them, and their claim of Stars being "groundbreaking" is blatantly unsubstantiated because there isn't a single element of that season that hadn't been done in previous shows. It's Viz that needs to build a bridge and get over themselves. At least I only call them out when it's germane; I don't go out of my way to turn each and every one of my comments into a hate-fest for something I dislike like some users around here like to do...

I'm not turning anything into anything. I also don't hate anyone. I'm jokingly using your own comment as you seem to wanna say it each time I mention the 90s dub is not for me or relevant 20 odd years later.

Just because someone hasn't seen Stars before, that doesn't make it groundbreaking.

groundbreaking (comparative more groundbreaking, superlative most groundbreaking)

  1. Innovative; new, different; doing something that has never been done before

It's not innovative. It's not new and different. It's not doing anything that's never been done before. Viz could have stuck with "available with an English dub for the first time ever" or something to that effect, but they chose to make Stars out to be something grander than it is. It's not necessarily the most egregious thing in the world, but it's still irksome.

I'm not sure she was specifically referring to you when she said "some users around here".

It might not be groundbreaking to YOU, doesn't mean it won't be for others, like I said promo to build hype for the release it's not a big deal or nothing to nitpick over, lots of companies do it. Plus let's be honest for the general fan of theshow watching this season for the first time would be groundbreaking cause of how they take the storyline in the 2nd half ofthe season. So viz wasnt too far off with calling this season that

It's called marketing. I mean after nearly 30 years, we finally get Sailor Stars in the states and you want to nitpick how Viz wants to build up hype for their release? At least we can look forward to a quality set now that Viz is using the TOEI upscales. What you SHOULD be worrying about is whether or not Viz is going to re-do the first 3 sets.

Fixed!

Plus we're almost at the 7 year mark which, depending on if they're able to renew or not, means they might not have much time left for at least the first season.

All About Licensing: Part I

You might remember when Kakeru responded to you about this but since then, the Italian Sailor Moon DVDs are completely out of print now with half of them even unavailable at Amazon's Italian site.

True...7 more years. *sigh* :(

I don't know how much of a moneymaker it has been, though, since while almost certainly the first few seasons sold well, there's also evidence that some aspects have been a bust (the Sailor Moon theatrical showings were lackluster at best). Then again, I don't know what Viz's projections and targets are. However, from my eyes doesn't seem as though the Sailor Moon re-release has truly revitalized the fandom, at least in the U.S., the way one would think.

I mean, imagine thinking there’s any justifiable reason to stretch out releasing a 20+ year old series over 5 years and still being mediocre about it

They'll undoubtedly renew the license. I'm sure Sailor Moon's been a big moneymaker for them, and they'll want to finish out Crystal and probably put out complete series box sets for it and the 90s anime.
I doubt they have the same license. Crystal, and classic are different shows. Viz had to go back to Japan to license Crystal season 3.
