So now the speculation can move onto the characters in the later seasons or the victim/monster of the weeks.

With it confirmed as union now (thanks Kate Higgins), I expect Crispin Freeman & Steve Blum to be involved somehow. :)

• Stephanie Sheh as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
• Kate Higgins as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
• Cristina Vee as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars

Seems to be a wise choice. I was just considering this and Its a lot better than I expected. I cant wait to hear if Usagi sounds right this time.
The other two below will be interesting choices. These were supposibly approved by Naoko herself too? Hmm. I wonder if that would put any pressure on the audience.
Michelle-Ruff as Luna was an indeed surprise though if she gives off that Rukia vibe I could see it working as the support character though I honestly would have rathered her as Jupiter. She has that strong female aggresive sound to her which would be underused as Luna.

Johnny Yong Bosch as Artimis will be funny. Ichigo and Rukia as cats.

Glad you're happier with the choices than expected. :) Here's a description from a user here who was at the premiere:

I'm still conning so a full treatment will have to wait, but Stephanie Sheh as Sailor Moon is adorable. Nothing like an of the previous English voices (and nothing like her Orihime/Hinata voice either.) I'd compare her to Luci Christian as Duck.) the acting is expressive, none of that stiff anime dubbing stuff.
Sounds like she does a really great job! Really excited to be able to hear it for myself!

I always pictured Michelle Ruff as Jupiter too. I was really surprised when I found out she's playing Luna (though I'm sure she can do it no problem), but I'm pretty happy with Jupiter's new VA. From what I've heard of her work I think she'll fit Jupiter perfectly. Similar to the old dub Jupiter (and ironically, her new Japanese Crystal VA) but still very much its own thing.

Well from the leaked clip, I'm not against it either but Stephanie Sheh doesnt really make the character feel original enough.
I feel the voice shes using sounds the same as all the other voices she uses for said character type. It doesnt feel very unique or natural to me, she always gave me that her voice might be too low and mature for it to sound rightfully child-like. Her voice even as Usagi lacks that child-like sweetness that Kate Kiggins or especially Melissa Fahn, has in comparison. I'm a bit disappointed Kate Higgins wasnt Usagi. Shes too upbeat to be Ami.

Here's two other clips for you (the timestamp should take you to the right part): http://youtu.be/uXYkJPE-ERQ?t=16m58s
It's mostly what you heard above, but you can also hear the pre-episode preview dubbed before it.

Here's another Usagi clip, but it's audio-only:
It's the first 48 seconds of the first episode, with Usagi saying the title, then her whole scene with her and her mom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-b1GW6fK2A

Skip to around 4:43 here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/49602970
She only says "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" but it's interesting how after recording a few episodes, it's already completely different from that first demo we heard at the end of the redub announcement trailer.

It sounds different from the other voices I've heard of her, but I do get what you mean -- there's still somewhat of a similarity to her other voices there. It's still only the first couple of episodes though. It's possible after a few episodes of getting used to the character the voice will change. The above "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" clip already shows how much can change after recording just a few episodes. :)
I had never thought about Kate as Usagi until you mentioned it (always pegged her as Venus, or maybe Mars), but I could definitely have seen it working. They wanted something more tonally similar to the Japanese however, and that's why we're getting Stephanie rather than her, Laura Bailey (though she's probably too busy with non-anime shows nowadays), ect. And yeah, Kate as Ami still feels strange to me too, but I can see it working.

I must say I really feel for all the VAs, but I think Ms. Sheh has it worse than anyone. ^_^' Of course being the main character she's going to be the most heavily judged, and I knew a lot of people wouldn't like how much higher-pitched she is compared to most of the old dub VAs. I had never expected a "too-low" complaint though. :P Personally I think they found the right balance -- any higher would be too unnatural and grating for most people I'd imagine. I mean people are already complaining enough about the current tone as is.

FatherOuranos said:
I wish Sheh wasnt so inconsistant with the voice. She sounds better within the actual dub but in the preview not very in character at all.
Yeah, it's really too bad the preview clips are the ones most frequently shared, because they're not a proper taste of her as Usagi. I mean she's describing herself, not being her normal self. I imagine her voice will get more consistent after a few episodes though, and hopefully that'll include for the pre-episode bit as well. :)

I think she might be trying to immulate Terri hawkes based on the clips I've heard. Her opening to her yelling at her mother for being late for school was perfect legtitamently but then when she got her lunch from her mother and said "thanks mother" her voice got really deep and nasally for some reason. Then there are other times when she explains things to Ami where she doesnt even sound in character. I don't get it. She did Mikuru well in HS but as SM she kept going back and fourth with the voice -_- I don't want her to immulate Terri hawks, I want her to immulate Usagi.

Then theres Michelle Ruff as Luna. Its just weird. Not an improvement at all but not a tragety. Just another miscast. The 3 main characters should really switch around IMO. Sheh should have been Luna, Higgins should be Uagi and Ruff should be Amy. Too bad they already started recording.

I don't hear Terri in her voice at all. Tracey yes, but definitely not Terri. Also she says "Thanks Mom".

Nothing with Ami in it has been released by Viz so I don't see how that's possible.

Really? Not hearing the Terri Hawkes imitation at all. As far as old dub VAs go, the only one I hear her sounding like is Tracey, but even then I'd just say it's a similarity in tone. I think her voice getting lower for an occasional line here and there is just for added comedic effect more than anything. And we haven't got any clips of her talking to Ami yet. Like I said before, I imagine her Usagi voice will get ironed out after a few episodes. It happened with the old dub VAs like Linda (and I think Terri) too, so I don't see any reason why Stephanie will be a different case.

I also think Ruff would've made a good Ami and Sheh Luna, but I don't she's really miscast as Luna. It's a bit of a different take than we're used to, but until I hear a clip I can't really say it's a bad one. According to a girl who was actually at the con, they said Ruff's Luna sounds a lot like the new Japanese Luna from Sailor Moon Crystal.

See, I liked that part. Kotono Mitsuishi displays a huge range of pitch when playing Usagi, this shows that Stephanie Sheh is capable of that too. Usagi isn't supposed to just speak in a single narrow range, and this is a problem that some of her previous actors had. Sheh's using her natural range for the character, and to my ears it seems to be working well.

I agree - the previous English dub actresses sounded really forced to my ears, but this sounds like someone just talking. As it should.

Its not really an immulation but a vibe I get when Sheh goes from really happy to low sounding scarcastic. That alone reminds me of Terri.

Thats supportable but I dont like the nasal sound in her lower tones when Sheh uses her natural voice - its the part that doesnt sound like Usagi to me.

Naoko picked them so we are going to have to truth her. Guys like with anything turnVA are just becoming associated with their characters so we are giving inconsistes. However u can't see they will not be better. We just have to wait and see. We can't judge things only by a clip. Trailers only give u good parts of movies and they can just be bad movies . So please just wait until the episodes are out.

I'll agree on that. I guess Usagi isnt supposed to sound sqeaky all the time like ChibiUsagi or Diana, but finding that natural range that Tracey had is longed for. Going straight up to straight down rather than progressively softening and raising with a balanced preformance is what is yet to be acomplished. Its better to be an actor with range than a one-voice throat but knowing how to control it is much more professional. Sheh has yet to find a more "child-like," to make it natural. I feel like when she just pitches her voice down, she slightly slips out of character. I'm just worried Shen doesn't have the natural liveliness needed for Usagi.

At best Sheh as Usagi might be better adjusted as they go further in hopefully. Its not the fact that shes even bad, its just her tones are inconsistent which we agree.I think Sheh needs to look for the feeling of the character a bit deeper and take her own voice out of it, and make herself into Usagi, which I can respect that Terri did when she was playing Serena, she made it her own interpretation. Now we just need Sheh to give us an accurate one.

Miscast might be too strong a word, it just didn't match what I pictured mentally. Her not using the right pitch to portay a faithful luna might just be what I mean. Perhaps if Michelle did as much as raise her pitch and sounded softer in her delivery she might fit a bit better.
