I liked it. Granted last time I watched it I thought emo was kewl and My Chemical Romance was popular (showing my age here...), but I thought it was really fun. A nice breather from S.

I only like the :minako: episodes and all :luna::artemis::diana: episodes.

I think the animation and art are gorgeous compared to those of the previous seasons, but the story didn’t do anything for me. Manga is much better.

I actually don't "hate" SuperS as much. Some of the episodes are humorous but others really don't do anything but I'm sure their intentions were to sell toys and what not so it had to drag?

The series itself had some really good art and some of the best music and interesting characters but it had huge problems with side characters who really meant nothing to the story (which is kinda okay for the MOTD sentai setting).

Another huge disappointment for me was them deciding to wait so long for the Inners to get their powerups.

Sailor Moon was practically useless in this season if Chibi-Usa didn't use that bell which was useless on its own too. They know they could have at least made it have more power as it failed against Ves Ves.

Aside from this I will watch SuperS for its good points I mentioned. It like most of the other seasons are the reason the mangas disposable characters like the Amazon Trio are loved.

The fact is that Super S can be good if you BINGE it...

But for someone like me who saw it around 1996 when it was aired WEEKLY, I can assure you that the Series was HUGELY BORING and lost a lot of Fans because of it. Too much Fillers, no character development, Sailor Moon not being able to fight without the brat calling a horse, boring fight... Even the fight are extremely boring, following always the same pattern... Plus they never really fights again the Amazon Trio or Quartet...

Yeah animation is good but you can trash 75% of the season... the rest is sadly very good... But mixed under water because of boring fillers

I honestly find SuperS really hard to binge, though I also can't imagine watching it week to week lol. I'm really terrible at actually watching new stuff (think it's a byproduct of my ADHD lol), but even then I was able to finish the other Sailor Moon seasons in around a month or 2, whereas SuperS took me like 4 just because it felt like a slog. The first, half or so of the season is especially poor for me, I liked :diana:'s debut and the episode about :mako:'s old friend but stuff like the ninja :usagi: episode or the inner's Super transformation episode are probably some of my least favorites in the show. The Amazon Trio stick around too long and they're insanely creepy with how they're portrayed in the worst way, it's just uncomfortable. The season picks up later in the trio's run, and during the Quartet's run there are some genuinely great episodes. Personally :ami: and:rei:'s new ability episodes are 2 of my favorites in the entire series, I also really like the dentist episode (it's dumb but fun in a way that actually works for me lol), and the episode where the senshi and quartet work together on the stage show

But then there's also stuff like the age swap episode which takes a fun premise and makes it creepy for instance.

Rambling but SuperS is a season of extreme highs and low's for me, at it's best it kinda has everything I love about (at least the typical, not plotty) episodes of the 90's anime and even has points where the characters show genuine growth and how they've matured, at it's worst it's the lowest points in the series, well at least the anime for me

Are you from France or Japan?
from France originally, so we had Sailor Moon seasons around 1 year and half after Japan.

The show showing Sailor Moon weekly was going down around the same moment than the 4th season was airing on the biggest national tv in France TF1. The series was weekly on Wednesday at 09:05 am ! (Trust me I never missed it, I was around 11 when Sailor Moon shows for the first time there).

So because of the kid show going down, Sailor Moon 4th Season was sometimes pausing for 2 till 3 months before coming back I guess for budget reasons (the kid show was planed to disappear at the end of summer 1997)...

At the end because of all these issues they didn’t even finish half of Super S season it’s stopped one episode before Jupiter is attacked by Tiger’s Eye (if I remember correctly but definitely few episodes before the end of the Trio)... so I let you imagine how boring Super S sounds when you watched basically not even 20 episodes in a year period...

Then the show showing Sailor Moon disappeared totally and Sailor Moon never came back on national TV. The rest of the Super S episodes were published in VHS around a year later I will say and they scheduled re-airing of the series on pay-cable/sat TV. But because the initial kid show disappeared, they never bought Star Season. It’s only few years ago (2013?), a bit like in US, than “Kaze” (editor) finally dubbed (only) the 5th season and Movie 2 and 3 with new terrible actors/actress.... but yeah between that I already discovered Sailor Moon in German and of course subs version of my favorite version, the Japanese one...

maybe because of all this reasons, I just have bad memories linked to Super S... I was obsessed in 1998 about seeing Star... but it was very difficult without speaking another language than French at this time and without internet (no streaming platform in 1998 lol) I remember buying VHS subbed in English in US (a famous unofficial subs, vkll I don’t remember the name ?!) for a looooooot of money around 2000 I will say.

It was my favorite season growing up. Something about it really stimulated my imagination as an elementary school kid. I loved the mix of fantastical imagery (circuses! crystal forests! kaleidoscope finisher!) and disturbing subtext. (the way the Trio attack their victims, the Lemures being Nehelenia's former subjects, etc.)

It doesn't hold up as well as an adult, but I think that's because it's the kind of thing best viewed through the eyes of a child. Though I have still found things to appreciate about it even now. It's enjoyable in small doses, and being a fan of Ikuhara's works adds another layer of enjoyment to it for me.

Granted, I was a kid when I watched it. I thought Usagi was totally justified in her freak-out over the lemon pie theft. Now as an adult it just looks absurd.

We at least had this one gem before Ikuko left.

I believe this was one of the scrapped ideas (lots of it in S) they just recycled for :minako: Wink Chain Sword.

Then the next few episodes started to become stale with the Lemures getting even more weirder than ever.

I like it fine, but it along with Stars are definitely the weakest seasons of the anime. Part of the problem with it is that it's one of the seasons that most deviated from the manga, so the plot and lore in SuperS especially feels all over the place. Then of course there was the "bright idea" to make it a season focused around Chibi-Usa (who's character is divisive at best within the fandom, especially her 90's anime version) while sidelining Usagi and the Inners and not even having the Outers appear and you can easily see why it gets the flack that it does.

Even Poor Mamoru gets shafted. The Dream Arc was actually meant to focus on him more than anyone else and it's where we discover he's been harboring his own Sailor Crystal all along, yet SuperS also takes that away from him and suddenly the Golden Crystal is no longer his (Why?)

That's not even getting into how unnecessarily creepy they made the Chibi-Usa/Helios romance when it was cute and sweet in the manga, gaslighting and beastiality galore in the SuperS version of the romance.

I must be the only one who down right likes it. I loved the humour, the animation, and the villains are by far my favourite. I didn't mind all the fillers since...I've always liked filler SM episodes. And, perhaps strangely, the focus on Chibiusa didn't ruin it for me either since I've never been a big Chibiusa hater. Lucky me I guess.
