A few years back (around 2017 or 2019) in Facebook I saw a comment of someone sharing an image of this arc in a Sailor Moon Facebook group stating 'It's not canon'.

I mean there's other reasons to not like it and it shows what type of person this was in real life.
Which image was it and from what episode? What didn’t they like about R?

I'm putting you on my ignore list. You're not worth my time. :p

Using your 'neurodiversity' to explain the things you do here was already a red flag.

Act 21
  • Each episode starting with previous episode recap is boring but considering we had one episode each 2 weeks, it was necessary I guess. Still a good way to not have too many thing new to animate hehe
  • So this is one of the episode which is somewhat nicely animated. We will talk later about this but long hair flowing everywhere doesn’t mean good animation and can’t mask poor art
  • By the way I don’t really like these normal Crystal Tokyo shots with greens and supposedly futuristic buildings, seem cheap.
  • Again Diamand has some nice shots

  • I suppose using these manga panels with art nouveau style could be okay but it's not really beautiful here. Even closed, eyes seem off... Just changing the eyes might be okay.

  • Yup inconsistency with previous episode where Kikg Endy said that he was around NQS with inners when NQS was turned in Crystal (aka with Diamand).
  • This sums up several thing I dislike in this design: little mouth "en cul de poule" as we say in french, and I really dislike these soft brush they use to draw shadows. I suppose they want to recreate a soft and watercolor-y atmosphere but it's just seemed to be blurred everywhere

  • Silver Crystal without any kind of security. It’s basically what are Soul Gems in Madoka so kinda weird that NSQ doesn’t keep it close to her
  • « When you feel alone, just say AVADA KEDAVRA ! ». Oops no wrong spell, but pronunciation is close
  • Chibiusa being jealous because Pluto talks to someone else. Honestly she would change best friend / love interest in each season (first Pluto, then her father in the past, then Hotaru, then Pegasus, then her Sailor Quartet). Boriiiiiing

Act 22
  • It’s a bit late to try to make funny faces and a very weird time to do this anyway considering that the main character of the show has been kidnapped and may be raped

  • This thunder coming to stop Diamond from touching Usagi would have been useful precious episode when he tried to kiss her… Not even asking where it comes from because we will never get an answer.

  • So Usagi first can’t transform into SM in the future, but later well… she can. Same as she can’t be at the same place as her future self… but actually sometimes it’s possible. We don’t know why, but it’s possible when it’s convenient to the story and won't have any sort of consequence anyway.
  • It’s a Takahashi episode. I like what he does in S3 but I don’t like his style before. HOWEVER his episodes have consistent style without that much shots with other style.
  • I didn’t understand when reading the manga that NQS was possessing SM there. It might have been interesting but isn't it weird that she can't talk to her daughter or husband to just says "hey I'm fine, my HP are just refilling, be back soon xoxo" while at the same time not having any problem to make her spirit travel to Nemesis to speak in the body of her past self ?
  • It's anyway sometimes to is very constant in that manga: Takeuchi makes strong rules, then bend them later or make them unimportant when it's convenient
  • Where does SM gets her time key to return to Earth ? I don’t remember this ?
  • This scene with Inners rejoining near the Time door and running on the air without moving is… an artistic choice

I guess I can do that.

[Sailor Moon R]

Original overview:
Spoiler: show
SAILOR MOON R

Ok so when I watched "Sailor Moon R" I liked Ail and En. I liked that they could normally interact with the Sailors at school and on the streets. I actually felt kind of concerned when Enn flew off the handle in their last few episodes.

As for the Black moon arc: I didn't mind :chibiusa:..... at all. It felt so weird why she was hated to this level. She always just seemed... ok to me. [Same with 'Human :luna:' in PGSM, I don't even remember her taking that much time in PGSM either she was just kind of "sus" there]. As for her whole situation with Mamoru: I just took it as a "Oh, she's just a child who doesn't understand romance" and "I wanna marry big brother when I grow up" type of deal. I didn't think I was supposed to take it seriously in anyway. And after this season I thought she was just doing it to mess with :usagi:. BUT she can be annoying, and that's enough for most ppl [plus there could be other reasons]. :P

I liked the whole thing with Rubeus and the Spectre sisters [mostly Koan] Although I mostly liked their "Dic" selves. [will insert video here if I can] Its just when I got to "Crystal Tokyo." I kept having problems.
  • I kept losing interest by the end somehow [there were a good few episodes I liked however, like "Saphir's death", "Nurse Venus", "Ami's Illusions", etc.] It does feel like this season would be really nice to watch week to week.
  • I didn't care for the whole "Black Lady" plot.
  • didn't catch anything between Demande and Saphir the first time.
  • Didn't care for Wiseman at all.
  • The visuals didn't always keep me engaged. [I kinda feel like it was the master's or/and my fault for that. It felt like SPECIFICALLY this season's colors were off]
However, I did like the action this season had, as well the the movie [which is my favorite of the original 3 movies]

For the Makai Tree arc
  • I enjoyed Ail and En being aliens disguised as human siblings (not sure WHY they needed to be siblings, but they stick w/ it and I'll accept it for drama) I love when the villans go to the sailors school. [like Mio and Tin Naoko that one time] I especially like it here since They both seem somewhat interested in human customs.
    Spoiler: show
  • Ail: It's interesting he's one of the two villans who had the hots for Usagi. For some reason my perspective of him was that he had fetishes [in fact Dic's episode where Lita tries to impress him w/ food was called "Food Fetish"] He .... really seemed to enjoy the girls running and screaming. In fact, I remember him smiling when those girls were screaming/chasing him through the school the point I'm getting at is he has a scream fetish.
  • En: Having En hang out w/ the girls while also being a rlove rival for Usagi was also something I enjoyed seeing. I especially enjoyed Dic's take an En. If she's going to be a b*tch mean girl I'm happy they went all out w/ it. Really loved her ::love::
  • I THUROUGHLY enjoyed Usagi in this part of the season. a decent chunk of my favorite moments w/ her come from this portion of the season :usagi:
  • I also thought it was interesting the season had Usagi question her relationship w/ Mamoru. The cheating relationship w/ En and Ail had me anxious as I get uncomfortable w/ really bad breakups. I never really notice the birthed from the same tree incestuous implication they had
  • but I'm just going to go with them not being siblings.
  • The Cherry Blossom episode was one of my favorites, especially since for me at least it had some of the most memorable visuals of the season.
  • I wonder what would happen if the manga handled this anime only section. My mind jumps to Little Shop of Horrors but Seymor [Ail and En] is a LOT more of a psychopath [I hear he basically is one in the books]. NOW I WANT A SERA MYU MUSICAL WITH THIS CONCEPT! I hope they do/did one. :P
  • Spoiler: show
  • Too bad I see this portion just written off because its "filler". I'll do the BMC another time
I'm sorry but Sailor Moon is scary af. Look at that thing and look how the Inners are fused into that tree like something out of Evil Dead. Early Sailor Moon had some freakish monsters.

Also, who ever directed and animated this episode did a good job. You also forgot one other good shot. After, Sailor Moon falls into the light you see the Inners facial expressions..... and Rei gives a good display of emotion that wasn't present in any Crystal episode as much.

For the Black Moon Clan
a little backstory
Yuichiro/Chad was my introduction to wanting to watch the series. He looked like one of my OCs then I searched for every episode he was in. Koan was also one of my first introductions so when I finished the Makai Tree arc I was excited to get here. Her introduction along w/ Chibiusa's were one of my favorites.

Because of stuff like this I'm pretty biased to any episode featuring Yuichiro or and Koan. It also COULD explain why I've never had a problem with Ando's style on the first watch through [Besides Stars, WTF was that]
Another note: In one comment section I was given a warning about "Season 2 and 4 being weaker" [or something to that effect] That was my first warning about what SuperS had to come. :P

  • I enjoyed the Spectre Sisters arc. I don't really have anything to add to that statement. I ESPECIALLY liked Dic's take on them.
  • Koan was my favorite I got exited whenever she appeared.
  • Rubeus: Same as Jadeite. Didn't have to care for him, I'm fine with that. I had a feeling he had some type of want to impress Demande for whatever reason. Like he had feelings for him. I think it's because of this image.
    Spoiler: show
  • As for Crystal Tokyo. I enjoy watching certain things in it but after I'm finished, I don't remember much of what happened.
  • I thought Emeraude was funny [I heard she was hated for whatever reason]
  • Demande was ..... Demande. [That situation he put Usagi though terrifies me]
  • Like I said at first, I couldn't pick up anything between Saphir and Demande. They're just normal brothers, doing normal brother stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
  • I wish I could hear more about Saphir and Petz [and Demande]
  • It was hard for me to remember what happened for most of the end-strech but I do remember enjoying most of it while it happened anyways.
  • This season also has many of my favorite battles along with the movie
  • Nurse Venus was the first Venus centric episode I really enjoyed. I largely didn't have a problem with her previous episodes, I just couldn't get a good grasp on what her "thing" was [besides miss pronouncing idioms] I hear she gets compared to Usagi [an Usagi 2.0 if you will] but I never felt that way. Even when the show mad direct comparisons between them she still felt different to me. :usagi::minako:
  • I think if she was more like this I would have enjoyed her more in the Classic/early R.
  • I think the original overview goes through most of everything else.
Usagi: Who are you and what do you want?

Koan: A facial would be nice.

Koan: Who are you and who does you hair???

These lines have me screaming!!!! I do miss the old English dub sometimes... Lol

  • Again Diamand has some nice shots
OK, I'll admit Demande looks cute here and by cute I mean - affordable to be looked at by the eyes for more than 3s :zoid:
(He's got beautiful pupils)

  • I suppose using these manga panels with art nouveau style could be okay but it's not really beautiful here. Even closed, eyes seem off... Just changing the eyes might be okay.
I don't think it's the eyes only, it's the overall shape of the face, especially with that chin... she looks like a granny in her 50s lol
... And huge BOOBS! Seriously what is that, a F-cup???

Chibiusa being jealous because Pluto talks to someone else. Honestly she would change best friend / love interest in each season (first Pluto, then her father in the past, then Hotaru, then Pegasus, then her Sailor Quartet). Boriiiiiing
She takes after her mom and creator - everything should be about me, me ME - SAILOR MEEEEEE!!!

  • It’s a bit late to try to make funny faces and a very weird time to do this anyway considering that the main character of the show has been kidnapped and may be raped
  • I'm telling this show at this point is a hentai trope parody helmed by Sakai :P

  • This thunder coming to stop Diamond from touching Usagi would have been useful precious episode when he tried to kiss her… Not even asking where it comes from because we will never get an answer.
Is it the same in the manga?
Imajineeshon Pawaa.... Meiku Appuuuu!!!!

  • So Usagi first can’t transform into SM in the future, but later well… she can. Same as she can’t be at the same place as her future self… but actually sometimes it’s possible. We don’t know why, but it’s possible when it’s convenient to the story and won't have any sort of consequence anyway.

FOOL! Don't you know by now that you have to IMAGINE the plot? In Crystal, you have to imagine the animation as well :P

We would likely not have had this reboot if TOEI and Bandai were consistent in the plot of the Sailor Moon Sailor Stars anime either scrapping Igarashi's earlier plans prior to the airing of the anime and starting over OR they decided to move forward with Igarashi's initial plans, if Igarashi's earlier plans materialized I doubt Naoko would change the backstory of Galaxia and thus Stars would have been similar to the other arcs with flat villains.

I was thinking of this from the viewpoint of seeing Sailor Stars, if the Stars manga was crappy and flat compared to the 90s anime version I don't think we would have a remake at least not of Stars.
We would still have a remake regardeselly.Cosmos and Eternal are not meant be replacement of those in the 90s anime. There just meant to be adaption of the manga arc.Evan if the 90s anime did had a proper ending. We would still have Cosmos.

If there is a demand yes, although both the Stars arc in the 90s anime and manga are crap, the manga was better due to it being more consistent.

Also you forgot to talk about what you thought of Saphir. :) You already gave your personal opinion on all the other Clan members and Demande and Saphir’s relationship but what about Saphir himself? Especially since you admitted you actually sorta liked his creepy and deranged Crystal counterpart, what’d you think of Ikuhara’s Saphir in comparison?
Outside of his relationships. For the most part I just remember him mostly complaining from the others being off task.
He also

Is very suspicious of Esmeraude's motives and if wiseman's lying.
Black Lady calls him a "loud man"
I remember him not caring about bathroom privacy that one episode.
and he also wears blue.

So this comes to mind.

I just finished the second eternal movie. I started crystal back around the time I signed up here, but never finished it because I prefer to watch entire series once they are complete. Most of crystal was pretty decent imo, especially since they cleaned up the animation of the first season(s) compared to when I first tried it. Eternal 1 felt kind of rushed but Eternal part 2 absolutely blew my mind!!!

Unlike the original show I decided to do 2 episodes per day for this one... except for the R arc where I got so into it I actually binged it for a bit lol. And also SuperS used to be my least favourite arc of the whole story but in this one I was super invested into it.

Act 23
  • Nobody listen to poor Pluto when she ask people to not run on the time space corridor: Chibiusa, Tuxedo looking for Moon, now inners…
  • I don’t really like Wizeman voice, he is a bit too overdoing the « foul old man » touch
  • Saphir with black moon earring = Sailor Darkury from PGSM. You can’t unsee it now

  • Well really this Chibiusa's attraction to her father it such a weird idea from the start. What did Takeuchi try to achieve with this whole concept ? It doesn’t add anything to the story and make Usagi’s fear about a little girl stealing her man real in the end while everyone thought she was sort of crazy at the begining...

  • I don’t understand why they make inners come back to present Tokyo, to make them return to the future less than half an episode later ?
  • Okay so getting her past father’s D wasn’t enough, she wants to kiss her real father’s ghost now. I sincerely hope that Takeuchi got enough money to see a psychiatrist after Sailormoon because there are lot of things to untie in her mind…

  • POV: the all-you-can-eat-buffet seing me coming for a 6th refill

  • This whole scene with Black lady running to steal the Silver Crystal is really weird, bad storyboarding straight taken from the manga

Act 24
  • I understands people not liking Takahashi’s side view for characters in S3, but they were no better before

  • So Pluto’s 3 Taboos are introduced quite late in the story, I thought it was earlier. Anyway all 3 of them would be totally broken soon. What’s the point to introduce 3 absolute rules and make them useless later ?
  • Diana keeping the Time Door, replacing Pluto, makes absolutely no sense. It’s cute yes but story wise it’s ridiculous
  • OMG totally forgot this scene before Tuxedo steals the Silver crystal: Black Lady throws away Moon fly against a rock, it’s so badly animated. Then Diamand stealing the crystal is also incredibly cheap
  • Credit to Pluto’s voice, she is really good and better than the OG one. Honestly I don’t really have problem with all new voices, they are very close to the OG and they are slowly replacing the old one in my head. As long as they keep Kotono it’s fine.

This is so out of place.... Naoko-sama do you feel alright?
It doesn't serve any purpose except as always for shock value and to 'look cool and edgy'.

A good writer could have played this dynamic very well by showing how Chibi-Usa longed for the love of her father (considering Chibi-Usa's mental state for 900 years, the royal duo were crappy parents), how she was always lonely and drowning in her royal responsibilities.
Once she meets Usagi, she discovers that this girl who looks like her and her mother has every thing she ever wished for - freedom, an everyday simple life, close friends, a lover and it's where her envy starts taking root.
Ultimately Chibi-Usa gets close with Usagi and via Mamoru, she gets the 'male attention' she's always wanted.
And once all hell starts breaking loose, this envy of hers towards Usagi turns into jealousy and hatred and she adopts her femme fatale personality (Black Lady is pretty much Chibi-Usa rebellious phase lol).

But it's Takeuchi, so it's bland and senseless as hell...

  • Okay so getting her past father’s D wasn’t enough, she wants to kiss her real father’s ghost now. I sincerely hope that Takeuchi got enough money to see a psychiatrist after Sailormoon because there are lot of things to untie in her mind…
Considering 90% of Sailor Moon stems from Takeuchi's personal life, I don't wanna delve into this...
But seriously now she wants her father's TOO???
It's official, Crystal 2 was a hentai without the X-rated parts lol
Again is this in the manga? If yes, I'm sure there's some Black Lady/Mamoru/King Endymion doujinshi out there...

  • I understands people not liking Takahashi’s side view for characters in S3, but they were no better before
I have no idea what happened to Takahashi during Sailor Moon. His profile shots are very good in Precure (esp. Doki Doki).
His profile shots tend to have this old-school shounen anime vibe to them like what Umakoshi or Ichikawa did on Saint Seiya Omega but Takahashi's profile shots in Crystal are disastrous.

  • Credit to Pluto’s voice, she is really good and better than the OG one. Honestly I don’t really have problem with all new voices, they are very close to the OG and they are slowly replacing the old one in my head. As long as they keep Kotono it’s fine.
I still prefer OG Pluto's voice. Crystal Pluto is very good, there's just not this mysterious vibe in her voice compared to the 90s.
HaruMichi and Hotaru's voices are perfect and I didn't have much problem with Kotono except on Eternal where her age really starts to show - there's some early Nozawa's Goku syndromes there.
As for Ami, I don't mind her much - her seiyuu is good but it's just that there's not much stuff she does in Crystal for you to remember her performance. Her voice is kinda meh however compared to Hisakawa's whose was this perfect crystal clear but soft spoken voice.
However I ADORE Shizuka Ito's Minako! I was already a big fan of hers from Lenalee of D.Gray-Man but she does a fabulous job on Minako. It's very different from Fukami's but still very 'Minako'.

As for Rei or Makoto, I do not like them at all...
Rina Sato is a very capable seiyuu but it feels like 90% of the time she has no idea how to play Rei - is she gonna be fiery? Is she gonna be an ice-cold princess? Is she gonna be a tsundere? Nobody knows, not even Takeuchi lol :P
Makoto is a complete waste with this tomoyish voice and direction they gave her seiyuu. Shinohara played her perfectly as the older sister type of character with the deep yet feminine voice but I really can't with Crystal Makoto.

Death Phantom is one of the many incarnations of Chaos—Chaos ultimately wants to make Sailor Moon snap, lose control and succumb to anger and despair.
This is irrelevant because here:
1) We are talking about Chibi-Usa's own, corrupted yes but non-brainwashed, actions not those of Death Phantom.
2) No way at that time Takeuchi thought about Chaos and it's implementation in her work. Chaos is a last addition to her story not something that she was laying the groundwork for since the 2nd arc.

I had skipped every ending after Heart Moving my first watch through. Largely due to impatience. but on rewatch I had made sure to listen through them for about every episode. I think they're really good at setting a tone for the season. I wish Watashitachi ni Naritakute lasted through the entire Amazon trio arc I would've loved to hear that the episode they died.

I don't have much to say about the R movie, but I wish they were in 4:3. I'd like to see the full screen, especially since the movies are really nice looking. Plus, the Make-up special was one of the only ways I could see season 1 episodes w/ refined colors and detail.

Should I just go ahead and do the other seasons or wait till their respective arcs come up?
