I hate Uranus face when she gets her lipstick moment. She looks like a grasshopper.
Pff... who cares about Haruka :nope:
Michiru deserved better (it seems along with Setsuna, she's one of the characters Crystermos staff can't draw correctly at all).

This is beauty

It's not hard to understand. Nature has always given mankind two genders, of course with different sexual orientations. Then, you have the 'terms' the lgbtqia286547236489512568s+ ....whatever it's called....has made up. Humans are not (will never be) hermaphrodites.

I hate Uranus face when she gets her lipstick moment. She looks like a grasshopper.

Then you have this perfection:

Oh yes the Crystal/Eternal version of this shot is ugly, she looks like a cow with strabism.
I was talking about these scenes where they are shouting make-up:

I really like how they are drawn there (mostly Michiru).

That would become this in Eternal, which is really not pretty... What happened to their noses ? :

Or maybe it’s the other way around, they’re born male who can magically transform into women. (That’s literally how it’s presented as in the 90’s anime)
Huh? It's literally presented the exact OPPOSITE in the 90s anime. Princess Kakyuu recognized the Starlights in their Senshi forms. Later she asked Fighter as Seiya "Is that the appearance you've been taking on this whole time on earth?" And Seiya explained in order to find her amongst all the women this was the most convenient form for them to take.

They're not intersex or men who turn into women, they're biological women who took on the form of men when they came to earth to attract the attention of women as a boy band to find their princess.

Waiting for Cosmos #4

I rewatched Crystal without anyone's input [for the 1st time so yeah]. I have some things to say.

First things first: I honestly think the animation was ok or at least not that bad.

It's definitely less than I'd desire. I wish the characters would generally move more and the environments feel livelier, but I thought the animation was mostly alright. I mostly had problems with episodes 7 [which was a constant barrage of close ups] and 13. Speaking of which, when I first watched episode 13, I was just sick OR AND having migraines that day, so I just wasn't feeling it that day.

besides that, I do think there's some nice-looking parts [for me at least] Like the attack animations. I like the 90s more but still I think they're pretty cool looking.

whether or not they missed isn't what I'm talking about, but I think they looked nice.

Usagi does kinda have spaghetti hair but I mean........ I kinda like spaghetti hair though.

The music felt quite repetitive, and I most certainly don't like it as much as the 90s anime, but I still think it sounds nice. I honestly think it serves crystals narrative very well.
  • There were a few parts I found funny. Like when that lady was suddenly attacked in episode 13.
  • I think Minako, Luna, Artemis were nice to follow, and I still liked that the story focused on the romance between Usagi and Mamoru.
  • Tux's dancing with her at the ball was so rough though. Rougher than that 3DO game
  • I took them crying over the generals as them being sad they were SO CLOSE to saving allies who were sadly brainwashed by evil but died when they were right in front of them. The camera shaking was a bit much though. ^_^'
  • I can't really judge their designs as a reference to the manga since I've never seen the manga, but I honestly think they look really pretty [usually]. Not topping this though:
  • As for the friendship between the girls. To put it simply:
  • Spoiler: show
  • It seems like they all enthusiastically joined an after-school club. I guess you could interpret it that way but eh.
  • Was Tux supposed to be kissing Usagi in episode 13?
  • Is he kissing the upper part of her lip, is he kissing that space between her nose. IS HE BLOWING INTO HER MOUTH??? all acceptable I just wanna know.
  • Anyways I think I think it had a nice fairytale appeal to it with how the narrative and music was generally handled. That's something I don't specifically get with the 90s version outside of SuperS/The Nehelenia arc and both of those are still quite different so that's something else I liked.

Yess, the attacks are what I missed from Crystal S1&2. They looked so powerful and even Mercury was more offensive. None of them were playing. I was slightly hurt I wasn't able to see World Shaking and Deep Submerge in this style...or the Super attacks.

Upon re-watching Crystal season 1 multiple times, my only wish is that they had brought Damburite’s “curse” from the Sailor V manga.

Ok, we have Venus trying to rescue her love from the past, great!

After the four Generals pass away, they should have briefly brought Damburite (Sailor V) through a flashback:

Spoiler: show
Upon becoming Sailor Venus, Minako remembers Damburite telling her that she will be hopeless when it comes for love and that her fate is to keep fighting for all eternity.

That SenshixShitennou part is so poorly written that it would have been better to leave it out completely, not even mentioning Damburite would have saved that disaster.
I mean, it raises even more questions then what is trying to solve. Why were they together in the first place? Was it a matchmaking thing? They had no other ppl to hang out with? Just... What the fudge were they thinking when they were writing the script?

Bringing Damburite would let the viewers know that none of the girls would find love.

They tried to resurrect their generals and lost the battle.

Their fate is to fight during all eternity.

Waiting for Cosmos #5

I still enjoyed this season pretty well on rewatch.

I do kinda get the feeling Usagi was accusing Mamoru of being a pedo.

How did Mamoru get the Gerneral's' stones back? Was it lots of glue and tape. Personally, when I first watched I kinda thought he just bought some new stones, and the generals are just able to inhabit them because it's the same stones and because they're ghosts
Spoiler: show

I like the music they used for the black moon clan. Something about it does sound heartless and devastating future you want to be prevented.
I think I was rather unnecessarily mean to :setsuna:'s part in the intro. I think it looks fairly pretty; the facial expression just seemed kinda off to me for some reason.

I think episode 22 [or at least the kissing scene] and much of episode 25 is some of the prettiest things I've seen from this show. For the most part I think I still feel generally the same about the season [I enjoyed it]. Demande still clearly wants his balls stomped and Mamoru still has interesting shading.

I'm not sure how I feel about it compared to R though.
"With the power of both silver crystals I rule everything!!!
"I don't trust anyone anymore!!! Everyone has to answer to me now!!!"
"I'M SO F*CKING HARD RIGHT NOW!!!"
Spoiler: show
"Wiseman how dare you try to kill my precious queen.
"Hold on, is Demande trying to save me? Is he on our side now?
"She's MY property! Only I'm allowed to kill that b*tch!"

Waiting for Cosmos #6

think I liked season 2 more than season 3 actually. I like them but it's harder for me to feel as for all the characters especially with so many events going on at once. I didn't think any of the individual plots were bad or anything, they all had something for me to enjoy. It was just hard for me to get hooked but that's just me. I still like the UsaMamo part.

I do wish Crysternos could have a more unified style, but I guess variety's also interesting to see. The design's do feel kinda weird to me. Or atleast Usagi's, something about Usagi's hair not being engulfed with lines make them kind of look like yellow meatballs or a plastic toy. Not to mention the BEIGE DISH-RAGGIFICATION of Michiru [I'm kidding I just don't like it as much in comparison]. But I still like the designs any way. They were able to give them plenty of flair imo. They can still look pretty for me especially during the windy parts.

I liked the choreography here much more than Phase 1 & 2. I also think this this has some of the best action scenes of the show.

  • I think the Pluto version and the YouTube version have different dialogue.
  • I like the 2nd intro the most. I think they all sound great but for me the 1st one is slightly too little while the 3rd one is slightly too much for me
  • There's actually more Utena pictures with that pose
  • Ikuhara needs to chill with some of these pictures ^_^'
  • *note: I don't have any proof Ikuhara's responsible for these. He can draw what he wants.
  • Pharoh 90 casually murdering everyone in Juban:
  • Holy crap Kaolinite's Hydia!
  • TUXEDO BURRITO!!!
  • Forgot to mention but I was 100% right when I implied the Silver Crystal was drugs.
  • Live footage of Mistress 9 Stealing the silver crystal, Robbing the spotlight, Claiming the Chibiusa's soul while Statching the Kaolinite's weave.
  • Bonus: her Taking the Kaolinite's life in the 90s version:
  • Spoiler: show

[*]Mistress 9 bullying Kaolinite in high school

Waiting for Cosmos #7

I updated the last post

Ok, so I thought I'd have something new to say about Eternal. I wasn't sure If was paying attention properly and missed something but after rewatching it, I think I remembered just about everything. The only new thing I found notable is Tiger's eye wanting to be an artist.

Unpopular opinion: I liked Eternal part 1 more than part 2. I just felt more engaged with what was going on there. I mostly just remember characters just standing around and hearing exposition in part 2. That's definitely not the only thing that was happening, like I still liked things like Saturn's presence and attitude for example. I think I just liked how part 1 had more things going on and I could see what the characters were doing individually.

Design wise I thought it looked fine, I just liked how the other versions looked more 'unique'. I think Chibiusa and Saturn has my favorite design in some of these.

I heard someone say Usagi apparently tried to seduce Mamoru when she turned into a kid ......... WHAT?!
"All right, I'll make you that omelette like you wanted"
"Surprise! I made you French toast!"

Japan has changed, studios have changed, they don’t make stories like those they did in the 90s, people tell me…

Cosmos certainly had the potential to be more nerve-wracking, heartbreaking and intense than the episodes of the season 1 finale with the DD girls. However, the director and the person responsible for adapting the manga into a film chose to do something ”easier to digest.” Which is why I recommend reading the manga after watching the film to get the full experience. The film follows the manga, but the manga is far more intense.

It is also a bit strange because TOEI didn’t censor season 2 as much as it censored Cosmos. I suppose they were in a hurry to finish and wrap up season 2 and didn’t have much time to censor many things.

..............................simply because the friendship and bonds among the girls haven't been developed enough in Crystermos to have (or to exceed) the same emotional impact.

From what we've been told, Cosmos doesn't have any major censorship - the girls are each killed mercilessly and in the blink of an eye just like in the manga.

Gory faces or the characters melting into dust wasn't going to be a big game changer.

During the fight against the DD Girls, we have demon/gory faces and likewise enemies being reduced to dust.
But what makes those fights so iconic is how tragic they are - each girl gives up her life so that her comrades can move forward while each showing emotional weakness - Makoto gets tricked and gets distracted by the image of Motoki which proves to be fatal for her, Ami becomes melancholic at the sight of Urawa and knows she's not going to come out alive of this clash, Minako till her last moments maintains her pride as a Senshi by lashing out at Usagi which results in the Youmas torturing her and Rei, finally, in her last moments admits about her feelings towards Yuuichiro and what could have been.

Later on, the scene of the ghosts of Makoto, Ami, Minako and Rei appearing to an Usagi in tears is nothing but beautiful.

If anything, the deaths of the Inners in 90s Stars is even more violent as we see the girls' stomach getting perforated along with the sound-effects that go with it.
That scene is traumatic even but what is more memorable is each girls' last words and Usagi begging everyone to not pass on with an excellent performance by Kotono.

In Cosmos - just like in the manga - Usagi is mostly shown as catatonic but she is never shown broken down nor displays this much raw emotion.
In fact, later on, she doesn't dwell on the fact that her friends died a second time by her own hands.
She even shows more emotion during the stock footage of the Therapy Kiss before clashing with Galaxia compared to the manga.

I don't know what the manga can award of more to the viewer especially when we DO have some touch-ups in Cosmos like the deaths of the Starlights (albeit that might be the sole change in the story...).

So "Bunny" and the others live in "Crossroads"

I wonder if Darien's actually been "partying" ::tuxspeedmask:

So they're not terrified of Black Lady they just think her hair's like ...... really nasty or something.

So, this is Bunny supposedly trying to seduce Darien.

He just wanted to be an artist! :sob:

They keep talking about the Dead Moon Circus having a song.

I'm assuming this one. They both mentioned something about a place of light and............ yeah, that's it. I made it only to Chibiusa and Helios kiss.

Manga's funnier. Should manga stuff be a separate thread?

Tokyopop‘s translation isn’t very accurate.

Although I am certain that Naoko received letters from fans from all over the world, I am not sure if Naoko received or read any letters sent to Tokyopop’s publications (Mixx, Smile).

Mixx and Smile were magazines that published chapters of Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth and other famous titles—mostly shoujo, if memory doesn’t fail me.

Knowing how strict Naoko is with her manga, I think she certainly didn’t like the Mixx/Smile/Tokyopop editions.

I wonder how Tokyopop even got the rights to publish the manga in the first place.
