So, it seems like we are finally reaching the end of the CrustyEternalCosmosUniverseGalaxy reboot. It’s been a long-ass time. Over a decade has passed since it was first announced. There have been plenty of disappointments along with a few glimmers of hope. But, everything going to plan Cosmos should be the end of a reboot by (the time it’s released) that has been 11 years in the making.

I’m honestly shocked that we were able to get a conclusion to all this without a cancellation. I feel like with the way Sailor Moon’s popularity as an anime (merchandise aside) has been dwindling in its home country it’s really the overseas fans who are mostly propping the franchise up. That, and maybe nostalgic 30/40 year old women in Japan.

so.. with all that said, what are your expectations after Cosmos? Do you want the franchise to be laid to rest? Do you want an original story from Toei? Would you like Naoko to come out of retirement finally make something new? A live-action Hollywood movie? A Netflix live action?

For Cosmos.

A straight up 1 on 1 adaptation.

Inconsistent animation for Part 2.

Also lots and lots of combo stock footage in the final battle. :loltext: Eternal :usagi: will dodge all their attacks.

Beyond.
A reboot of Crystal with even more Shitennou ::love:: :minako::rei::mako::ami:.

May be a side story or two.

For it to be the best of the Crystal continuity.

Not good but the best. As each entry seemed to be marginally better than the previous entry. (A reversal of the 90s anime where each series was worse than the one that preceded it)

The Dark Kingdom arc was a trainwreck, Black Moon was slightly less bad. Season 3 was a mild improvement over that. And Eternal barely scraped past watchable. So maybe Cosmos will be ...decent?

I would probably say the quality of the movies will directly depend on how enjoyable the source material was, what with this being a strict 1:1 adaptation and all. Obviously the animation and BGM are variables that will help enjoyment provided they are good but I think a lot of Crystal’s ‘improvements’ are also down to the fact that Naoko sort of improved her storytelling as she progressed. That being said, Stars was an enjoyable mess so that’s pretty much the expectations I have going into this.

I hope they don't use the transformation style of Starlights (a.k.a powerpoint style) in Cosmos.
You just know they will :P And minus the epic BGM, too.

From a completely biased fan perspective I hope they save their best animators for other Senshi. The Starlights have a pretty minimal role in the manga, anyway. That being said, though, I don’t remember there being many new attacks/ transformations introduced in Stars?

I can't see why someone would like Eternal better than Crystal III for any reason other than character designs, but to each one its own, I guess.

I want a paper all color kanzenban. A new anime that reflects the manga in every aspect, graphic style, plot and emphasis, with an excellent quality of animation (it's impossible that they cannot do it with today's animation techniques). More really cool gadgets (half of those produced so far I wouldn't buy them). Maybe even an extension of the manga in which the author can delve into the stories that she was unable to tell before.

Not that Crystal / eternal / cosmos has helped much to increase the fans of the series, indeed, if it has not made even long-time fans escape it is a miracle.

Me too!

Mmh... I don't think we'll get a spider out of the hole. It will leave little or nothing as eternal.

They made like 3 different attacks for the same spell for the Starlights. Well for Seiya and Yaten. I believe Yaten got a third one that final battle with Galaxia when they did that triple combo against her.

First one looks similar to Crescent Beam without that toy.

The next 2 observe the hands.

It's funny how Star Maker got 1 and 1/2 of a henshin footage. (May be it's 2 and a half but I really don't want to research on her XD)

My expectations for Cosmos:

It won't get away from what Chiaki Kon did.

Beyond:

Looking at the Japanese trend in terms of adaptations:

1. Japanese Live Actions films like they've done with Fullmetal and other properties.

2. What Toei/Bandai are doing right now with Dragon Ball: Naoko making designs and providing with ideas for a new story (a midquel) and Toei developing those concepts. Bandai sells new merch, Naoko gets the money and the fans arguing senselessly what part of the story is canon so that their lives can make sense.

I think either of these ideas could be potentially be good as long as the people involved are experienced and Naoko let’s go of control a bit. It would have to take something genuinely good to wash out the sour taste Crystal left in a lot of casual fans mouths, though. I think a brand new story could bring some of the hype that has dissipated back.

Lol I bet Bandai paid the 3rd version.

Did you guys ever notice how the phages make the exact same movement when they get beaten by the energy beams? It's like they used one model for all the battle scenes lol
They couldn't do that with Tin Nyanko for obvious reasons, but they saved money on the special effects instead. The beams don't last two seconds onscreen when she gets hit

It doesn't have to be a new series. A new story via films, completely detached from the manga, could boost the franchise, that's for sure. Naoko could write it. She could make designs for new characters, Toei could bring Junichi Sato back to work in those new ideas with Tadano or Ikuko Ito as animation directors. That'd be brilliant.

Still it looks better than what the entire Cosmos will bring to the table. :P I can't wait for those flash animation backgrounds and the characters running as if their legs were spaghetti strings. :cthulhu:

I think she's just going to keep telling the story over and over and over again until it stops making money. Maybe she'll let them adapt Sailor V but I see no indication from her that she's interested in moving continuity past Stars.

Look at the nigh infinite re-releases of the manga. She's had years to come up with something new and has just never done it. Crystal was just a retread of the manga yet again, with the only changes being to take away Venus' kill of Beryl which... ugh. Doesn't inspire me with her creativity.

To be fair it's from a different angle/perspective.

But Nakamura did it better with the Cardian getting hit by :minako:'s Crescent Beam Shower. XD

I wonder if they planned to reuse this sequence? We see they doing it with attacks such as Fire Soul and Tiara Action. Exact same attack animation, but in different backgrounds and we don't see the senshi behind the attack.
