It's interesting some people criticize the animation in the R movie but have no complaints about the animation in the S and SuperS films. I felt the animation quality between the 3 films was very consistent although nowhere near what a big budget anime film would have (such as a Studio Ghibli film). It will interesting to see how the R movie looks on Blu-Ray when it comes out this month.

I like S the most. But R has exciting edge to it as S.

All are equally great, just minus the Bon Bob Babies. I feel that cheapen the Supers Movie.

1. R
2. Supers
3. S

As much as i love this franchise the movies are kind of a dissapointment for. Besides S, the movies just seem like the basic theme of the season just very very recycled. ...if that makes sense to anyone

We haven't had a chance to see S and SuperS in theaters yet but I'm sure the animation errors in those films will become more apparent once we do. My big issue with the R movie is the CGI asteroid clashes with the 2D animation and I think it would have worked better if they just drew it in 2D. I'll have to wait to see how the CGI in SuperS looks on the big screen before properly judging it but I think the 2D animation moves a lot smoother in it. But I appreciate the S movie doesn't any CGI in it and they even fix some errors from the show, like Mercury's glove vanishing when she does Bubble Spray.

I think it's unfair to compare ANYTHING to the quality of Studio Ghibli films they are the Rolls-Royce of anime films

S since it shows the human emotions of the heart. Also got to see the 3 outer senshi fighting, though I do miss having the Sailor of Death around. Also goes over a popular Japanese folklore: Kaguya, who was said to be from the moon, so props to that..
Another plus is that it's (the only one) based on a tankobon manga specially written by Takeuchi herself for it. :)

I like them in order. The R movie had an interesting storyline, a good villain, and terrific art and animation, all in the signature Sailor Moon style. The S movie also had a heartwarming, emotional story (if somewhat detached from the main characters), with another cool villain (no pun intended), and more great technical work. The SuperS movie wasn't bad, but it's definitely my least favorite. I'm no fan of Chibi-Usa, and her relationship with Peruru was little different than her relationship with Helios. The movie was more silly to me than anything. At least the dub gave us another badass performance from Kirsten Bishop as Queen Badiyanu.

Hearts in Ice has the most interesting story and was the most stand out of the 3. IMO anyways

Promise of the Rose was just a retread of the doom tree arc

Black Dream Hole was just the awfullness of SuperS the series distilled into movie form with the Outers added in.

You have the wonder if the Scouts didn't feel deja vu with the R and SuperS movie adventures.

Getting back on track, I felt that Super S was seriously lacking in many major ways. First off, the character development was somewhat bland. Secondly, the overall plot:

Spoiler: show
they want to stay kids. WTF

R did pretty well. It showed how Usagi cared for Chiba, and how Chiba did show a good side in the movie. It also showed how Usagi wasn't willing to give up her friends, despite the fact that they told her to keep fighting.

However, one thing that completely threw me off-guard:
Spoiler: show
why is one of the baddies looking like the two main bad guys in the beginning of the R season?

Speaking of Fiore I always thought he was related to Al and En even though there are some differences between he and Al and En in that he doesn't need the Makaiju to nourish him. Maybe there was something rather special about his creation.

Sailor Moon R: The Movie for me. The reason was that as a boy, I wasn't "supposed" to be into stuff like Sailor Moon. So I ignored the series until a friend of mine and his sisters forced me to watch this specific movie. Totally got me hooked. Oddly enough, I was not really into Dragon Ball anyways (though I love other anime at the time such as Outlaw Star although a kid like me at that age shouldn't be watching that, lol). I was and still am, however, a total Pokemon fan. Still watching it even to this day :D

Anyway, recently I checked out the blu-ray version of the movie. I'm a bit perplexed about it. At first I was complaining that the colors are waaay to over saturated and seems like the details are lost. But after watching it for about 10 minutes, I'm perfectly OK with it. Perhaps I may actually prefer it over the original VHS version that I watched. Also, the widescreen format is A HUUUGE plus over the original VHS. I do miss the original VHS cover, though. That cover, in my opinion, is gorgeous. With the shiny foil parts here and there.

Hahaha! Yeah, it's really unfair to compare the two. Also Ghibli films have GORGEOUS settings. With the advent of VR, I wish one day to be able to explore Laputa, the castle in the sky.

The SuperS movie is definitely my favorite. It's so different from other Sailor Moon stories.
I agree. I thought the concept was sweet; if they had an extra 20 minutes or so it could've fleshed out the plot more. What I really liked about SuperS is that it was very surreal and actually had them fighting nearly the whole time. The other ones are so dull on that part. We get special animation scenes, we see them using their powers without having to call them out (basically commanding their own element.) It was very well animated too. It definitely lacks in some areas. Overall, it's the mosts "Sailor Moon" to me in terms of a fantasy adventure.

The Sailor Moon S movie is my favorite because it is a very heartwarming and romantic film, plus I love that it's the only movie that is based on the manga. I also like the R and SuperS movies as well, but the S movie is my all time favorite out of all of them.
