Sailor Moon and her guardians. While the Oiters can be mysterious and popular, I lack connection with them, compared to the inners. We know too little about the Asteroids and Stars were my least favorite in every version of the story. Ami, Rei, Mako and Minako are familiar, nostalgic and you probably had friends similar to each one of them in your school days. They are more than just superheroes, they are the friends a lonely kid dreams about. Smart and gentle Ami, pretty and collected Rei, strong and courageous Mako and a bundle of joy like Minako. They are the friends people either have in their life or hope to find. They complete Usagi as much as she unites them. They feel human and normal as much as goddesses and guardians of the Earth.
The outers are great, but they are too idolized, too tragic, too superficial and lack humanity in a way.
The OG squad, of course. They made the show and are iconic. One of the reasons I hate Stars so much (after the Nehelenia arc) was the fact that they barely did anything cause the writers were too busy shoving those 3 nobodies in our face. The Starlights can choke.
I like the Outers as well, I just wish there was more to them, especially Pluto and Saturn who got shafted.
Even though Minako and Rei are some of my absolute favorites, if I'm just ranking based on the teams overall I'll have to go with the Outers, if only for the fact that I adore every single member of their team whereas with the Inners I only really love Mina and Rei. Don't get me wrong I like Ami and Mako, but in comparison to Mina, Rei and all the Outers they're not as interesting to me, at least not their anime and manga selves.
The Outers definitely!! Neptune is my all time favorite senshi, with Uranus and Saturn not too far behind her. Pluto is a little boring compared to the others, but is an amazing character in the manga at least. I think S is the great season that is partially due to the Outers.
Inners would be a close second. They're not quite as cool as the Outers, but they're great characters in their own right and I pretty much like all of 'em.
The Starlights are OK. I like them well enough in the anime, Seiya and Yaten are cool, but if I had one complaint it's that their whole introduction and story was a retread of the Outers somewhat, plus, I don't care much for Taiki. They are horribly boring and underdeveloped in the manga.
The rest I feel don't get enough emphasis to measure up to the other three.
I love Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn while I am pretty much an anti-fan of Sailor Mars (at least in the original anime) but the "Inner" team as a whole actually works better. Everyone has a purpose and a reason for being there.
The "Outers," by contrast...aren't really a team. Sailor Saturn by design is a loner and while she does become part of the squad, most of her best moments are when she's not part of it. Sailor Pluto is also more solitary in the original anime and even when she joins with Neptune and Uranus at critical moments, she seems like a third wheel. So it's just Uranus and Neptune as the Battle Couple and their accessories.
As for the others, I either don't know about them (Opposito Senshi, Parallel squad) or dislike them on general principle (Starlights, Animamates, Quartet).
Personally, the outer senshi are my favorite. I can definitely agree though that the inner senshi seem more solid as a team. But I love the chemistry between Haruka and Michiru, and then I always liked Setsuna and Hotaru a lot.
