Mamoru has had so many potential love interests across all the different versions of the series, I thought I'd break them up into two groups for the sake of doing polls: villains and (duh) non-villains. Today's poll: villain edition.

So, what villain do you think Mamoru should have ended up with? Should he have stayed true to his betrothed*, Queen Beryl? (*La Reconquista canon.) Or maybe he should have hooked up with her live action series shadow self, Mio Kuroki? With his penchant for roses, maybe he should have fallen for a botanical alien like En or Fiore. Maybe you like incest in your media, so you ship him with the evil version of his daughter, Black/Wicked Lady. Maybe you like the idea of him with a queen, but prefer Nehellenia to Beryl. Maybe you're into the dominant/submissive vibe of his brief interaction with Galaxia? Perhaps you found yourself rooting for him to be with Fish Eye? Or maybe there's another villain I've forgotten about - a monster-of-the-day, a video game or musical exclusive villain, or some other baddie - with whom you ship our* favorite tuxedo-wearing dork? (*Prince Rose not included)

Far and away Fiore, that's the only one who seemed like it might possibly be requited. They might just have a brotherly/platonic friends kind of relationship, and Xenian Flower-possessed Fiore is being a creep, but, I feel like he largely had good intentions and they had some sort of chemistry (although they didn't really have any non-Xenian-Flower-influenced interactions except as kids which is kinda weird), but, basically have an easier time imagining this one, under wildly different circumstances. Also they're very handsome together. As for the rest:

Queen Beryl
- He reaaaaally didn't seem okay with this, although I can't judge La Reconquista, that version might make more sense. (I'm giong to have to add that one to my long, slowly explored lists, somewhere next to the musicals but below PGSM, aren't I...) But as for the manga and anime versions I just can't see it working out at all.

Mio Kuroki
- I can't judge this one either, since I haven't seen PGSM.

Ann / En / Anne / Eiaghn
- She's nice and all (a little ill-considered murderous intent for Usagi aside), and they had that thing at the play together, but, he spends almost all of his interactions with her attempting to withdraw or seeming kind of uncomfortable. I guess he also was going to bring her flowers that one time he thought she was ill, but, he seems pretty much regard her only as a friend. Sort of like Usagi and Seiya I guess, but lower key?

Chibi-Usa
- While I can imagine cases where consenting adults of blood relation (such as cousins or possibly siblings) might have some kind of equitable and healthy relationship (though unable to safely conceive), parent-child relationships are a whole other level of weird, and Black Lady was clearly not a true consenting adult since she was brainwashed and transformed. Super weird and bad dynamic for a whole bunch of reasons.

Fish Eye
- Ehh, I'm not seeing it. Fish Eye's not really mature enough either at this stage, and I still think the Trio are probably less adult than they appear/try to fake.

Queen Nehellennia
- This is a rare case where I'm not sure either of them care. I mean, she grabs him with that gold eye shard thing, but that seems more like it's for revenge against Usagi than any actual interset in Mamoru, and he just sits there like a drooling zombie. Had she even gotten past her obsession with Pegasus at that point? Also where was Pegasus for that arc anyways, what's going on

Sailor Galaxia
- Not sure either of them had any chemistry, either. I mean, I guess it's a blank enough slate you can write what you want, but, it seems to me sort of like shipping a shooting victim with the robber when that was the first time they met.

As far as other villains... maybe Jadeite didn't finish drowning him because he secretly loved him I've got nothin'.

According to the novelization of La Reconquista, they met when they were eight (Endymion) and seven (Beryl). Their families would get together a few times every year and arranged a marriage between them. Beryl fell in love with him and always wanted to dance with him, but he always told her he didn't know how to dance. Eventually he meets Serenity and falls in love with her, calling off the arranged marriage. You get the impression he liked Beryl as a friend, but he never had romantic feelings for her.

Incest is hot, so Black Lady :p

Just kidding. Honestly, I'm not sure which option is the lesser evil. Mamoru sure has a knack for attracting creepy, obsessive stalkers. Maybe Galaxia? Mamoru would make a good sub.

I voted for Sailor Galaxia (their interaction may be brief, but I felt there was more chemistry between them than between him and most of the other villains) and Other. In as much as Princess Sailor Moon from PGSM can be seen as a villain, I think they'd make a good pairing (though that may be cheating a little ).

I really don't ship any of these, but I picked the two Queens for two very different reasons.

In most incarnations, I do not want to see Queen Beryl end up with Mamoru. I don't even like that aspect to the backstory, and manga/Crystal makes her seem just like a jealous stalker (although at least the original manga made me feel bad for present-day Beryl since she was forced into evil in this life). La Reconquista honestly made me feel bad for the first Beryl, because instead of being a jealous stalker, it makes her the wronged party. It's easy to forget from our modern perspective, but in antiquity, being engaged in a lot of cultures was a close equivalent of being married and women who were dumped at that point were often thought as damaged goods. Even if it were arranged, you don't just cut out on your duty just because you fall in love with someone else, especially when you're the Prince of the Earth Kingdom. Even when she was reborn, she still couldn't get to Endymion's incarnation in time before meeting Serenity's incarnation

That doesn't make Queen Beryl right, of course. She sold her soul to Queen Metalia and deserves her fate, but Endymion, cheater shouldn't go free. Either kill him too and make it stick, or punish them both by having them stuck together forever.

As for Nehellenia, I chose her because I like the idea of an evil queen getting her prince, and because since the limited interactions between the two have been him completely brainwashed, any actual relationship is up to the imagination.

Concerning Mio...did she ever seriously go after Mamoru in PGSM? It's been a while since I watched the show, but most of her antics were trying to get Usagi's school friends to turn against her. Then again, from what I remember of PGSM, I remember more people hating her than her actually having a substantial role in the show. In any case, I wouldn't want her with him or anyone.

As for Ann/En, no.

This might seem weird because I do ship Ail/Usagi, but that's because the two of them are far more compatible. By contrast, En constantly pushes herself onto Mamoru, trying to bump into him and actively scheming to make him hers. However, it is clear that in all of his interactions with her, he does not show any interest in her whatsoever. Plus, she seems to be fiercely protective of Ail, so even if she did get her hooks into Mamoru, she still wouldn't be satisfied.

Black Lady is a double no. No for incest and and no because the space-time continuum would probably unfold.

As far as Fisheye and Fiore are concerned, Fisheye is too immature and shallow, and Fiore is his childhood friend (and one not bound to him via a proposal of marriage).

How about Esmeraude? She DID flirt with him, after all!

Fish Eye
- Ehh, I'm not seeing it. Fish Eye's not really mature enough either at this stage, and I still think the Trio are probably less adult than they appear/try to fake.
Also keep in mind it'd be basically Bestiality as the AT were originally Animals transformed/camouflaged into Humanoids.

That is kind of a weak point in it, yeah. They don't have much of a clear relationship beyond friends as kids, except in the context of Fiore being possessed by the Xenian flower, so we aren't really sure how they'd feel about each other.

How about Esmeraude? She DID flirt with him, after all!
Amusing premise, but I'm not really seeing it XD I think Esmeraude was kind of mentally unstable, and if she had serious interest in anyone, it seemed to be Diamande (not that he seemed to notice / care in his own mind-influenced state hanging out with Wiseman and creeping on Usagi all the time).

Also keep in mind it'd be basically bestiality as the AT were originally Animals transformed/camouflaged into Humanoids.
While I still don't ship Fisheye x Mamoru, I don't think I'd object to it from a bestiality standpoint. The main thing wrong with bestiality to me is that animals are not intelligent enough to communicate and handle consent practices... the trio are clearly sapient, although they do lack sufficient maturity. But on top of that, they take human forms, so it seems like a technicality. I don't have a problem with Luna x Kakeru Ozora (other than it being kind of bland and Artemis being the more likely pick for Luna), and I kind of like the idea of Artemis x Minako, so I can't really fault that element of it. It's like, if aliens with human intelligence showed up, I wouldn't be opposed to humans romancing aliens, so if animals with human intelligence show up, what's the diference? But your mileage may vary.

I found this comic, which makes sense that Mamoru is being loved by so many villains XD

As for my vote, Fish-Eye and Fiore.
Fish Eye learned from Mamoru that Usagi has many dreams, which made Amazon Trio feel even more about living as a human, only in form.
And for Fiore, it was more emotional love for Mamoru, and Fiore even got saved by Mamoru two times. This leads Fiore helps Mamoru to revive Sailor Moon.
