Sailor Mercury is one of my favorites, so this is hard to chose. I love Ami in her civilian form. I'm always partial to the smart ones, and I especially adore her PGSM incarnation, where instead of being just the Smart Girl and the early moral center of the group (which are awesome in of themselves), she is also the dutiful daughter who is chasing her mother's dream and is also plagued by insecurities in wanting to have friends...and initially resisting her destiny to be a Sailor Guardian at first. I also love how she has blue hair, because unlike the rest of the five-girl-team her hair is a non-natural color and a visual reminder of her anime origins.

But, I absolutely love Sailor Mercury. I love that she isn't the strongest but that she plays the support role. Not everyone has to save the day, and I like that she helps out and uses her mind to figure out a way to get out of jams instead of just blasting through. However, her civilian insecurities also eat at her at times. I also love how in the only episode where she was a full-fledged teammate (not her debut episode) that she was a voice of reason without being a jerk like some other allies. I also love the blue on blue, as it is a very unique color pattern of complimentary colors instead of contrasting colors. Only Chibi-Moon's pink on pink comes close.

If I love Sailor Mercury, I love, love, LOVE Dark Mercury. One of my first fanfic ideas was to have an evil rival to Mercury since I couldn't canonically turn Mercury evil in the old anime, so it amazed me that PGSM actually did this. The only thing I don't like about Dark Mercury is how she was turned; she was kidnapped and forced into evil. It would have been so much better had she been tempted into evil instead by the abandonment of the crew instead of just being physically vulnerable. But I love her water sword and the implication that regular Mercury was just holding back her power.

"Akumi" was okay, but was it me, or did she really not seem all that evil? I was expecting her to be like Mio the way everyone was talking her up.

I love the idea of Princess Mercury and I wish there was more of an exploration of her princess form. However, we don't see much of it.

I'm not as much of a fan of the Super Sailor Mercury or the Eternal Sailor Mercury looks. The classic look is just so iconic that it should have been kept.

Mercury is not my "favorite" and I still had a hard time picking and just wanted to pick them all. Funny how when I first saw Sailor Moon, I skipped over SM and went to Mercury. I caught the show a few episodes before her debut.

I love PGSM a whole lot and Darkury as well. Super Sailor Mercury was nice. I was hoping that in Dream we could get flown back bows and what not like in her First Love movie.
I'm so ready to see her in the Dream movie..

Speaking of which, do their back bows grow or is that just an inconsistency? Sailor Moon's never does that.

You might try take a look at the Dungeon Keeper Fanstory in which almost everybody automatically assumes she's truly evil and the nastiest little thing around although it really wasn't her fault in the first place. However, I can't link it up here because it is partly NSFW (Description of gory scenes and some foul language) ;)

P. S.: This survey is O. K. but could've waited until tomorrow to converge with Ami's birthday. :ami:

I'm so bad about remembering their birthdays that that didn't even cross my mind! ^_^'

Anyway, Materials Collection version Sailor Mercury will always be my favorite:

The long sleeves, the longer skirt, the bright shades of blue used, the little chain on her brooch ::love:: I really wish this design would get used in a future anime or live action adaptation.

Dark Mercury is also awesome, and I think Eternal Sailor Mercury is probably the only Eternal Sailor who looks good in her uniform. (But it's only natural that Mercury would be able to rock those bubble sleeves )

That brighter blue color (which I also like, BTW) has already been used in PGSM.

I definitely agree about the Materials Collection design, I love the sleeves. She also seems to have a pronounced ribbon bow on the back of her neck, and while this part might just be art style I think she has slightly wider tops/lines on her boots.

I also sort of like the crazy idea that she was supposed to be a robot/cyborg (which I suspect was held over into her first chapter in the manga a little bit, in regards to her number vision thing when she looks at the Sailor V machine and figures out all the variables mentally, acing it on her first play; particularly that she seems to see the numbers). There's tradeoffs because having her just be a really smart human is cool too, but having her be a robot (and still very much treated as a person, an equal, part of the team, and so on, presumably still connected to Silver Milennium- which we know had computers in the manga because of "Eternity Main", and probably in the anime and other iterations too) is a fascinating scifi angle to me.

I also really like her "Gendo Glasses" from Ami's First Love, even though it's a bit of a dated trope to assume people who read more need glasses more, she just looks so cool when they go sinisterly opaque.

I haven't seen PGSM yet unfortunately, but I do like the idea of "Dark Mercury", that sounds like a promising story angle.

But my favorite form of Ami is "standing on top of a Ferrari Testarossa 512TR".

Ami is scarier than '90s anime Tomoe in my book XD Poor "Mercurius" never had a chance. I bet by then she could've actually taken Nephrite, too, or at least dented up his Ferrari quite a bit. Freeze up the engine maybe.

To be fair, part of that's Ami being super intense, and part of that's Professor Tomoe being a big ol' softy. He's such a nice evil boss, never killing his henchmen or getting terribly mad at them, just sorta
Spoiler: show
turning a disquieting blind eye when they kill each other because all he cares about is his daughter who he's desperately trying to keep alive. I jokingly call him "World's nicest evil boss and #1 dad", like something you'd put on a mug or a cheesy father's day trophy.

None. I don't think I like her.
At least (s)he doesn't call her 'The Wesley Crusher of the Moonieverse' or the like.^_^

She's often at her best when she becomes creepy, like her "Akumi" & Darkury forms in PGSM.
If you liked that, you'll probably LOVE Her Royal Majesty, ('Dark') Empress (Sailor) Mercury of the Avatar Islands - with the reputation she's (unintentionally) built up there: Grown men faint or shiver, women scream and little kids are wetting themselves upon hearing her name!
