I feel like people here have been talking more about PGSM lately, which I think is a fantastic thing. :) Would anyone be interested in a community re-watch of PGSM? Of course newcomers to the show would also be welcome to join in, as well.

When I say "community re-watch" I mean a thread dedicated to discussing specific episodes of PGSM each week. This way, it would feel like we're watching the show together and discussing it over time. We would only be allowed to discuss the episodes for that week and episodes prior; we wouldn't be allowed to just start talking about the last few episodes while we're on episode 15, for example. In addition to keeping things organized, this would also make the thread feel more welcome for people who aren't familiar with the show.

I could use some suggestions for the amount of episodes per week, though. Obviously it can't be an episode a day because that would just go too fast and many people can't watch an episode every single day. That also wouldn't allow for a lot of discussion. At the same time, I don't think one episode a week is a good idea because that would take pretty much a year or so to finish the show. XD Initially I was thinking two episodes a week as that would basically halve the amount of time it would take to get through the show, and it would give people flexibility and time to watch the show on their own terms (like if I want to watch two episodes on the first Sunday then that's fine, but if someone else wants to watch an episode on Sunday and an episode on Monday and then write a post on Tuesday, that is also perfectly acceptable). But now I'm thinking maybe 3 episodes a week might be better? But that might be starting to cross the line into "too much" territory...I'm not sure.

I'd appreciate any ideas, but other than that, please let me know if you'd be interested in participating! It might be fun to have something to share as a community while we wait for the Dream movies.

Yes, I'd be interested! I think this community PGSM re-watch is a wonderful opportunity for fans to discuss the series. I love showing new-comers PGSM. The two episodes a week seems like a good idea.

I think 2 episodes a week is doable. It’ll halve the time it’ll take to go through the series without trying to cram too many episodes a week.

Also I feel like a lot of episodes acted as two parters if I’m not misremembering.

All righty then! I was literally about to write a post saying it might not be a good idea after all, but if people are actually interested, then no reason not to, I guess. :)

I'll leave this thread open for another week before asking a mod to lock it -- I think that will give people more time to check out the thread and share their thoughts or see if they're interested. I'll make a new thread specifically for the re-watch next Sunday the 19th and I guess we'll start things off then.

But yeah, in the meantime...if anyone else has any other thoughts on the amount of episodes per week, feel free to share. It seems like 2 a week might be best but I'm still open to suggestions.

And I also think we should save the specials and Act Zero etc. for after the main series.

You're kind of in luck, John. A community re-watch of not just PGSM but all of the 90s anime as well was held on here years ago, and I took the effort back then of creating a directory thread for the entire thing here, just in case anyone ever wanted to come back to the old re-watch threads for future use. I've even just now gone and updated all of the thread links from how they were before the forum merge with Suburban Senshi. Though, I had to split the list between my first two posts due to a new post character limit of 10000, but everything should still be there.

Granted, pretty much all of the video links in those old re-watch threads are outdated, but it shouldn't be at all difficult to find Sailor Moon media online to watch in this day and age. ;)

Haha, thank you Sabrlade. I can tell you put a lot of effort into that directory!

Ultimately, though, I don't think reviving discussion threads from nearly a decade ago is a good idea. It might seem alienating to newer users, and in general I personally don't like to revive old threads. A lot of those users don't post here anymore and it might be confusing at first glance. More importantly, the format isn't how I would approach the community re-watch. It looks like the PGSM re-watch you've linked to has different threads for each set of episodes; I was moreso thinking of a single thread for the entire re-watch and every week we would move on to the next two episodes. Discussion of previous episodes would still be allowed, of course.

I think you've touched on an interesting aspect of this entire forum: it certainly has a lot of history and it's good to remember that, but that doesn't always mean it's a good idea to go backwards. I think we (the current users) should have our own version of this type of thread.

It would just be odd to click on a post on the first page of the general discussion board and open up posts from 2009. XD

Well, I could at least add a link for your new re-watch thread to the ol' directory as a means to keep all re-watch threads of the past and present together in one organized and easily accessible hub.

Go for it! That would be a huge honor.:thumbsup: I expect to have it all ready to go on Sunday.

Funny you should mention that... :P

It happens a lot here because it’s not against the rules. That’s fair enough. I would just rather not do it myself, I’ve been on lots of other boards where necro-posting is frowned upon and that way of thinking just became ingrained for me personally. If other users here revive very old threads and it generates discussion, it’s not an issue and I’ve learned to get over it and even sometimes join in on the discussion. Live and let live.

But that said, I would still rather not do it myself.

And this is all kind of off-topic anyway XD

Before it closes, since there are multiple subtitled versions of the show out there (TV-Nihon first run, TV-Nihon revised run for the first half, Miss Dream, and more), which subbed version would you recommend for this re-watch?
